As the year winds slowly to an end and the evenings start to get darker, there are few things we look forward to more than the new season’s fashion and the start of new TV shows. The influx of lookbooks, autumn reads and coffee-table tomes are other highlights of the month of November onwards; and to get all three types of books in one is a phenomenon which rarely occurs. So when we heard of a new R&B-published hardback – London Life, Lagos Living – we were so excited.

Bobo Omotayo

London Life, Lagos Living is penned by Nigerian author, Bobo Omotayo. The book was borne out of a series of short stories written for his column here on BellaNaija under the moniker ‘The Renaissance Man’. The book is a collection of these stories, musings and more. It documents his experiences – work, life, love and social circles in two contrasting but equally cosmopolitan cities; and comes complete with a glossary providing definitions of slang and other colloquial sayings, specific to both London and Lagos.

The book is peppered with an array of art, illustration and photography courtesy of a handful of international artists, photographers and illustrators such as Karo Akpokiere, Osione Itegboje, Gbolahan Adams and Folarin Shasanya and reflects Bobo’s love of these and other creative mediums.

London Life, Lagos Living is one of unique offering; a rare coffee-table style book with sharp and witty written content, full of several laugh-out-loud moments whilst also being aesthetically pleasing thanks to the assortment of eye-catching yet thought-provoking images. In a nutshell, this is one book that can be read in one sitting; read in part or simply flicked through, time and time again.

The book is out now in all major bookshops (including Silverbird and The Palm’s Hub Media store in Nigeria) and other selected retail outlets. For a full listing of stocklists, kindly go to the website www.kilonsparkles.com. If you live abroad, you can order on Amazon (US & UK).

There will be book readings across the country throughout the month of November starting with X.O. Wine Stores on the 18th of November 2011 and The Lifehouse on the 25th of November 2011 both in Lagos.

And to those complaining about the price, I am sure it’s because of the volume printed, I am sure that they did not print as much copies as the Obama book etc etc, so obviously the price will be higher.. Support my dude!!!..:)

I am in the UK and there is no way I will be paying £16.80 for a book from an unknown. Even Obama’s book is £5.80. Kilon sparkles sounds funny but I am very put off by the price. Good luck to the author.

True. but considering that i have read his articles I might decide to spend. But seriously Bobo, look at that price o. Haba!

    • Tiki November 8, 2011 at 3:25 PM

Yeah, where can we find it locally?

    • Oliver Twist November 8, 2011 at 3:40 PM

      I just went on Amazon.co.uk to purchase and it’s approximately £17 + delivery. That’s a bit expensive Bobo…IMO

        seventeen kini? nah mate!

    • Ikenna11 November 8, 2011 at 3:56 PM

I just found it on Amazon, but tried to see if I could have a glimpse at a page or two, just to know if it’s worth purchasing but couldn’t. I am the kind of person that likes reading a few pages before buying any book, so I think the guy’s team that are promoting the book should give us something they think will get us hooked rather than just a front cover.
I think it is nice to see young people taking up writing again in our dear country. And I love the idea of book readings in some cities. Judging from how things catch on in Nigeria, who knows, penning books might just about catch on with our youth like music and movies!!

the book sounds interesting and like other readers said. I enjoy reading books that I can catch a glimpse of it. Can you reduce the price for the readers in the United States? I promise you we would be buying your book in bulk…love the book cover so far, something tells me this is going to be an interesting read for me and my girlfriends. LOVE it

    • miss t November 8, 2011 at 9:34 PM

The price has chased me away oh Bobo! and look at me ready with my card to purchase.
Wouldn’t mind buying it, maybe not now, let a used version come up, cos new copies of books like Purple Hibiscus, The Secret Lives of Baba Shegi’s Wives, I do not come to you by chance etc are around 6pounds and below except that is not your category!

    • David November 8, 2011 at 10:40 PM

Is it that you all can’t read. The price on Amazon is FOR HARDBACK. Not paperback. Come on people, get real. This is not too much to ask for, and stop the whole Obama/Chimamanda comparisons, the book is not just text. It’s a coffee table styled book.
