Amaka Osakwe, creative director of fashion brand, Maki Oh, is one of a kind. Her ability to tell stories and infuse African and modern aesthetics together is a feature we adore.
The discovery of her talent dates back to the on-set of African fashion recognition, has contributed to paving the way for other designers and has helped put African fashion on the map. Her distinct creative process has grown from using ‘adire’ to showcase tales of old, to engaging vibrant and rich fabrics to express cultures of life.
From showcasing at fashion shows like the Heineken Lagos Fashion & Design Week, attending Michelle Obama‘s ‘Celebration of Design’ event at the White House, showcasing at the LVMHPrize Young Fashion Designer 2014 showcase in Paris and winning the Womenswear Designer of the Year award at the #HeinekenLFDW Fashion Awards…the only way is up for this talented designer.
Over the weekend, singer, Seyi Shay held an album listening for her new offering – Seyi or Shay (See red carpet & event photos from here). In attendance were other music artists, and of course, Asa.
The Paris-based female music artist stole our hearts with her outfit – a piece from Maki Oh’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection showcased at the Heineken Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2015.
Asa, styled by Damilola Oke (a.k.a Ms Modish), rocked the fashion brand’s off-shoulder dress with intense fringe detailing, and paired her look with spiked nude pumps and her signature cat-eyed frames. The look suits her so well.
