Hey Everyone,
So how was your weekend? Mine was rather interesting….I haven’t gone out that much in a single weekend in a lonnnnnnng time but it was lots of fun!
Anyways, what did u get up to? Hope y’all had fun…for those of you in the States and Europe, I’m soo sure u r hella excited that the weather in warming up.
Sticking with the HOT theme, I wrote about the Mr. Nigeria Pageant organized by Silverbird some months so I decided to update y’all with some pics of the winner, Ikenna Bryan Okwara. He is a model and International Relations student at the Lagos State University. He will be representing Nigeria in the Mr. World Pageant in Sanya, China. To see his Mr. World profile, click HERE

How about the Mr. World Pageant, since feminists say beauty pageants are demeaning to women, what do you think about this role reversal…? As we get closer to the Top 10, what do you think about Idols WA’s so far? How about the Hip-Hop World Magazine Awards? I have to give it to Lou and Dakore, they have been looking consistently fab these days.
Have a fabulous week! Love, Happiness & Kisses.

Mr Nigeria is Cuute. Wow I didnt know they had male pagaents. We learn something everyday. I just cant help looking at the male “pagaents” with a crooked eye though. Some of the pics and poses with the lil snake print skirts are kinda gayish looking but he’s def cute.

James has a sexy, sexy voice!!!!! I don’t think Sokari carried the tune very well, but it was very daring.

I think Ikenna is fine, but in a wierd, not so manly way. But he makes a pretty picture i guess. Easy on the eye.

Mr Naija is fooooine. I dey trip o. And why r a few people here complaining about his braided hair? Remember, dis is what our forefathers used to do ages ago b4 it was westernised. For d ijinle yorubas, remember Sango?

Unto d hip-hop awards. Just what in d world is Konga wearing, i thought he’s better than dat na, he now had to spoil it. Denrele oh denrele (sighs), what can i say? Why does he always have to wear dat awful shoe all d time.

Derenle…again…its his persona and he wants to be different but something is just not doing it for me…I think there is a way to look boadreline ROCK and STREET…and not look homeless.

    Just my 08 cents worth

Sokari has always been a star! (ex-classmate, and given the occasion I could even claim her as a friend lol!)
If I was in Naija, I’d probably vote for her even without watching the show. I’m so proud to see her working it.
Thanks for your awesome blog, bellanaija, and for linking to them sumptuous vids.

OHHHH LAALAAA…..if only i was a couple years younger, i will fly to naija and get me some of that fine Mr Nigeria…BOBO O-HANS!.
Is it just me?…but i am not really impressed with WA IDOLS….most of them just seem to know how to ruin a good song by putting too many runs in it, needless to say that a good number of them confuse screaming with singing. Also…..SONG CHOICE PEOPLE!!!!…..why would u sing a Backstreet Boys song at a serious competition. Country music?..mmmmm, i rest my case

Sokari seemed like the only one with some class though.

Ikenna is just there, ain’t tall enough, short , freaking dreadlocks………………..he’s ghetto………………where is that AFrican king………….whatever happened to the black handsome guys? Anyways, that’s my own opinion. Best of luck Ikenna.

I am sorry but pls i am beginning to get tired of all these naija nonsense.last week, the issue was that the dolls had straight hair, slanty eyes and long legs…today it’s what happened to “black” handsome naija guys…geez…are all guys in naija dark skinned? Must we always find a reason to hate and bring someone down. The whole emphasis was on “black-skinned” naija guys.pls relax…it is really beginning to piss me off the way we hate on each other.

  34. Desola

    March 27, 2007 at 4:33 am

Yankeenaijachick nailed it for me! Whoever coined the word: “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder” couldn’t be more accurate! Even before reading the comments,I looked at two of his photos and made up my mind that in the facial look aspect, he just doesn’t cut the cheese for me and the complexion isn’t my definition of an African king! I like them rugged and very dark chocolate skin with chiseled face and prominent lips. The guy up there just looked like a mummy’s boy who’s been hitting the gym! Give me a Tyrese, Tyson Beckford any day and i’ll run to go get the best African crown for them! Now, that’s what been an African king is about!

As for the Hip Hop world award, someone had better get Denrele to a mental institution quick before he enter market!

Omotola as usual was off! off!! off!!!

    Dakore looked beauriful!

I don’t get the hatin on a brother either, who says nigerian men have to be charcoal in color? nigerians come in all colors of the spectrum and it’s not even like this man is over-yellow. I beg let’s not get hung up on color, as long as his name is Igbo, his parents are Igbo, who cares? His fine jare!!! And Brian has such a sweet personality really….kudos to him, i ain’t mad at that!

People please just leave Denrele alone oh! He’s just a sweet guy trying to hustle and get by and again, I ain’t mad at that either!

    March 27, 2007 at 10:51 am

Haba country people, why do we like to hate on our people? Ok, he might not be your idea of fine, but that doesn’t mean other people can’t appreciate him. If this guy was chosen to represent us I think we should support him the way we support beauty queens – that’s what people from other countries do. Why do we keep shooting people down – so because he’s not extra-tall and black, he’s not fine? Abeg! We need to learn that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. If im look gay nko sef, na wetin? So gay guys no dey fine? You don look Naijadude’s picture? My two cents.

Isn’t Mr. Nigeria in Tosin Martins ”olomi” music video? if he’s one of the dancers then some transformation has taken place. Looking at other contenders for mr World, it seems like he stands a chance. Re: Dakore and Lou Akande I think they’re flauting their relationship a lil more than necessary…you want to keep some exclusivity as a ‘naija celeb’ couple. Okay your dating but keep it on the down low. These press people are known to make and surely break…and noo i’m not hating, just sayin’

Are u kidding me, Ikenna is going in for Mr world. He’s not even going to make first 25 not to talk of first 10. Give me a break,he’s not my defination of a handsome guy. I have not been following the Idols West Africa like I had planned so thanks for keeping up with the updates Bella. From this line-up I am rooting for James Brendan…the others are good but not as good. I looove his version of ‘Show Me the Meaning’ different but good, dare, I say better, but then again, I think I have heard the original version so often that it sounds old and James’ is fresh and new. Positive vibes to all of them…may the best dame/lad win!

@PEARL..the press might even be a bit slow on that dakore and lou shizzles.
truth of the matter is that his folks and his sisters cannot stand her because they see her as a schemer cum goldigger.
apparently there is a daughter of a so and so that his folks believ he is better suited know as per connections, pedigree, class etc.
they just see dakore as a common naija movie riff-raff.
its a shame though cus lou is a great guy.that i know personally and he is quite humble.

OMOTOLA..girl done gone and lost her damn mind?whats with the sari and bindi bindi amar akbar antoni get-up?

DENRELE..that has to be a joke right?theres nobody saying not to be different.BUT there is a difference between different and borderline lunacy now.its even obvious he shangrees to make his rags..sorry clothes work.
he has been wearing those damn ORTHOPAEDIC PRESCRIBED SHOES SINCE GAWD KNOWS WHEN,those gloves as someone pointed out a while ago on another post.all that metal, and chain, and OH MY DAYS..IT HURTS LOOKING AT HIM.and his hair..
ahn sure a lot of us live in more western countries and see people who try to be different.BUT IT DOESNT HAVE THAT FORCED THING ABOUT IT.infact..i dont know what else to say BUT SOMEBODY HELP THAT DAMN CHILD.looks like he got into a fight with a stark raving lunatic.AND THE LUNATIC WON.

OMOWUMI I no get that big aunty dash me cake bow in front of that dress oh..and I don’t care how much you paid for it or got paid to wear it.RIP THE DAMN BOW OFF!

    DAKORE AND LOU..go lou,go lou,I see you papi..make I no expose who I be.but I like your girl.irrespective of what THEY say.

SASHA….GAWD..that contraption looks like those razz outfits that my aunts atimes used to make in the eighties with material bought from tej and ishola the tailor will construct for them.

KONGA…abeg is KONGA the bloke in the ridiculous get-up??HE NEEDS TO FIND THE NEAREST KONGA AND FALL DEEP INTO IT.

CECIL HAMMOND..looking fine u are mister.

BASKET MOUTH??why does his face FREAK ME THE HELL OUT??

    Baba dee..RENT-A-CROWD ANYONE??

2FACE..BORING..but you are still fine though.

WEIRD MC..OH LORDA MERCY..okaaayyy,u want to be weird.but whats with the TALL eleran cap?heard u might be a lemon.that don’t mean you should try your best to be BUTCH.u can be a lemon and be sexyyyy.U LOOK DRAB.

Who is your hairstylist.HE/SHE needs to be arrested.GIRL,your hair has been bleached to within an inch of its life.your weave looks hard.the cummerbund doesn’t go with your ruffled shirt AND THAT HUGE CRUCIFIX.and those that a camel toe I see coming on??

TEJU BABAYFACE AND THAT that’s what im talking about.GIRL u got it right on spot.

AUNTY FUNMI IYANDA..aunty,I don’t like what you are wearing.u have a fab body after dropping one.why look like you just picked the first thing that u could lay your hands on.u didn’t even make any effort with your hair.

TANA EGBO..hmm..a deep deep sigh.i LOVE LOVE YOUR BANGS.but that puff ball nonsense you got going on there is a disaster at best.the color looks like mr.tango threw uo on you.the leggings are a bit too thick looking for you a bad case of sausage thighs.just gives it a disconnected look.BUT WORK THAT BANG GIRL.

JAZZMAN OLOFIN..the only naija singer I can marry or even if he wears rags..i will still say he looks biased so shoot me.mwuahh.

Again, I think folk are mistaking these media/entertainment individuals for what they aren’t.

Most (all?) dont share our backgrounds, do you really expect the refined choco-milo thoroughbreds to apply for a pageant? ..excuse me, man-geant! in NIGERIA? Gwash! have some heart.

I mean, if any of them were to ‘mistakenly’ show up at any of the regular holiday hangouts/clubs they will just get laughed at and daggered from the sidelines.
I know better than to expect much. With that said, Mr. nigeria is not bad. He’s contractable -modelwise

Whats the hype with this sasha, she IS a tej girl with tailor mi much as she likes to forget herself… WHO wears that kind of material?

  57. Mari

    March 28, 2007 at 2:14 pm

Hmmm, Mr. Nigeria is fine but there’s something about his look thats irky…dont know, maybe its the mustache.

  58. Nigeriandoll in a Man's World

    March 28, 2007 at 3:39 pm

I think Mr Nigeria is very good looking. The so called stereotypical naija brothers who are dark, bald, looking don’t necessarily win pageants. It’s the pretty boys that win in this category.

Also, am I must say I’m a bit surprised that we are now discriminating between or lighter and darker brothers. Is it no longer enough to just be Nigerian???

As always Bella, another fab post. I am totally dependent on you now for the entire current naija gist. Thanks and nice one.

Ikenna is definite hottt! Bella, you need to hook me up wit him o! Me likes what me sees.

Yes indeed, some of those outfits & poses are uhm… special.

  60. Ms. May

    March 28, 2007 at 6:38 pm

Ok so I checked out the Mr. World site…..if you think Ikenna’s poses are cheesy, then you need to take a look at some of the others. His is small. Abeg, do your thing jare Ikenna. He is gorgeous, and that body!!!!! We can forgive the hair. LOL. And considering the only other African countries repped are SA and Kenya (anybody take a look at Mr. Kenya…lol), I say Ikenna is a good representative.

The ladies at the hip hop awards looked good in their own way but what I’ve noticed is missing when I see all these pics is a TOTAL look, from hair, to outfit, to shoes, to accessories. Not that everything needs to match, but it all needs to complement each other. In addition some folks just need to wear what fits their shape as opposed to trying to rock the latest trends do or die. Good one Bella.

There is NOTHING wrong with Omotola’s choice of outfit. I quite like it. She dared to be different and she pulled it off. I’ve always wanted a saree. What’s wrong with wearing an outfit from another culture afterall most of the outfits we wear are made by and intended for the west. We all are entitled to our own opinion I guess. But think about it if Beyonce wore that outfit she wouldn’t get stick for it. Lets stop hating ok?

Ikenna is really good to behold, braided hair and all.All you “Black is beautiful” prophets, take a back seat cos that’s not a reasonable criteria for the contest. Then I suppose you have a problem with MGBN’s complexion.
Bella seems to be a Derele lover so I’ll reserve my comments on him(but you get the gist right?)
I wish Shasha wore something else…most of the invitees looked good though.

Wow! First of all let me give a shout out to mr Nigeria. You are very hot indeed all the very best life can bring you with your looks and all. Now to all you haters of goodness, talking about him being igbo or not dark enough or having an accent or if looking gayish. Every one of you are haters and wish you could look like Ikenna! but unfortunately for your genes both the men and women that you are it did not quite work out for you all so you do what you know how to best and a very strong characteristics of your ugly genes “HATE” and as a matter of fact one of you said Mr Nigeria does not stand a chance, due to the hot guys out there, well for your information. Mr Nigeria Ikenna Bryan Okwarra runs circles around the Mr world 2007,if the truth be told. Ikenna beat him hands down. And for the fool that talked about Ikenna eating akpu,to you I say grow up cos it has nothing to do with akpu or his mother being igbo you are just a sadist. I feel Ikenna did not win because of narrow minded Nigerians like you all so negative and never proud of any good thing. My advise for you all is get a life, dont hate, congratulate. And to Ikenna I say well done a true son of the mother land Africa, a son of Nigeria, and of course not to say the least a complete unadulterated son and prince of Igbo land. Nna well done! And to all the haters you all can kiss Ikenna’s ass.

I dont like the way Nigerians behave towards the celebritys world..
Ikenna is handsome but we all have to give him the support and we should try to love and apreciate our own as nigerian.
I look foward to hear good comment on our first MR NIGERIA.
