BN Exclusive – WORLD PREMIERE: Lami – Over

Lami debuted last year with her smash hit featuring Nigerian Rap’s poster child – M.I. Know graced our iPods, phones and CD players. Some of us may have serenaded or were serenaded with the song. All in all a great song. She followed up with Nuttin, a step away from her Neo-Soul comfort zone. By her own self, she created a niche that was pretty much unheard – Nigerian Neo Soul.

Between then and now, she’s released her debut album, been appointed a UN Peace Ambassador, performed at shows within and outside the country.

Over tells the story of love unrequited – a story a good number of us can relate with (at least I can). It’s a pretty simple video and tells the story as is. It was shot exclusively in Lagos by Tom Robson for Jus Kiddin’ Productions, edited by Lanre Tyson, styled by Bolaji Animashaun and features rapper Lynxxx as Lami’s love interest.

The Sade Adu beat is conspicuous and makes listening uncomfortable. I doubt if this sound will sell in 9ja.

I am kinda nt sure if Nigerians are ready for such a genre as this. But you to applaud her though for trying, it is something new and nu things are bound to be a little non appreciated. My only probs with the song is the strength and tenacity of her voice, she didnt use it to the fullest. It was simply weak, kinda like she was talking and not singing, you knows. Anyways bravo for her, the next try would use this track and realize what not to do..

This lady right here definitely has a VOICE,its so so beautiful, this for me has cemented her as naija neo-soul finest.I was kinna reluctant to watch the video as i initially thought it was one of those dilemma songs we now call RnB music in nigeria but i was definitely taken back by the vocals especially on the chorus. It does bring back some Sade Adu type blend in the song but overall another reason why i think Nigerians should celebrate their own more.Great Job Lami..

Sade Adu is what came to mind too- the vibe must really be jumping off the track!!! A bit long and I’m not sure of those waterfall shots. But I like the song and the feel.

took a while for the song to grow on me. Love the video though. I doubt her goal is to be “commercial” cause this is definitely not commercial but it’s good “easy listening” music nonetheless.
