‘I Got Mistaken For Kanye West In Dubai’ D’Banj Tells Sway on MTV’s RapFix

On Wednesday, D’banj was on MTV’s RapFix with Sway. And for the first time, he has told all about how himself and Kanye West first met and so forth.

Sometimes I wonder if D’banj imagined he would get this far, when himself and Don Jazzy moved back to Nigeria 6+ years ago.

Why anyone would see D’banj and think he’s Kanye West baffles me, but I haven’t watched the videos yet so I’ll keep my comments to myself!

Y’all don’t get it, how many airport concierge actually know the people they are picking up? From what D’banj said, he was obvious there with his entourage and probably looking fly, the person might have just known they are picking up a black music star…it’s not a matter of resemblance

    • Dee

      July 15, 2011 at 3:09 am

I knw what u mean, u will be surprised how often some white and Asian people think all black people look alike, especially here in the states, it baffles me also.

    July 1, 2011 at 5:08 pm

Lmao i wasnt expecting any nice comments about Dbanj he is a Nigerian and Nigerians donot appreciate their artiste. Yes he doesnt look like kanye but i can understand someone mistaking him for Kanye prolly because of his dressing, his convoy and all…For the person that is comparing Dbanj to 2face can’t you see that people are unique? it is obvious that 2face’s personality is more relaxed and reserved while Dbanj has this in your face kinda personality! btw to all the haters haven’t you heard that if you donot have anything nice to say then shut up your mouth! geez! congrats Dbanj don’t mind this haters and keep making the kudi!

    July 1, 2011 at 5:37 pm

Its such a shame that we (i tke d “we” bck mre lke some) Nigerians are so negative. why can’t pple just be positive? over excited or not he did Nigeria proud as far as am concerned. Am sure even if he did a 100% in God’s eyes you lot will still have something negative to say. Enwaz has my mum will say “if no 1 has nothing negative to say about u, u need to check urslf”

I’m so happy for him!!! He’s doing it BIG!!! Why can’t some of you focus on being supportive instead of criticizing him for everything he does? This man can take African music to the top and we should be proud of him!!! I’m a BellaNaija virgin and I had heard that some of the comments are really bad and I guess they were right!!! Anyways, thanks DBanj for taking elevating your status and Nigeria’s, as a whole!!!:-*

One thing I know abt stars from the West n d rest of d world, once they start getting global their whole brand grows with dem. True, Dbanj is doing Nig proud n we can say he has an out there personality but then he needs to polish himself up. Learn abt etiquette, how to speak, conduct n answer ?s during interviews. If he wants to stay relevant beyond Africa, he needs to polish d brand “Dbanj” generally. Still i love Dapo.

    July 2, 2011 at 3:06 am

Bella there were gajillion more comments here but you picked and chose and posted all the nice ones. If you are going to have a blog and not give ppl freedom of speech and sugar coat everything and be bias and picking and choosing – then whats the point.

Mehn nigerians never surprise me. If dbanj went dere now nd strted forming accent now and acting all cool nd stuff, y’all wudda sed he wuz forming nd hez trynna be wht hez not. Im all for being yourself nd repping wherever u come from. I watched a clip of when snoop dogg wuz talking to them mohits and he sed the reason why he wud keep working with dbanj is bcuz he loves his spirit and the way hez always happy and jumpy meanwhile we all see it as being razz…smh! One of the reasons why nigeria wud neva grow is cuz we always wnt to do things the european way…americans envy the way nigerians are happy pple buh no! we wnt the reserved ‘european’ way. One of the reasons why i love dbanj is cuz he is true to himself! there r sum artists that on-screen they r soo calm nd ol buh u need to see dem awtsyde…a bunch of lousy noisemakers. Dbanj doesnt have an alter ego or anything, he is him! on-screen and off screen…he is the same! and @ogefierce i dunno if referring to you as a hater wud be enuf to descirbe ur character cuz u were jis breezing mehn! its snoop – dogg!!!!! r u joking??? du u knw hu dht guy is? and hez not a big deal? catch a clue hunny cuz dere r thousands of artists whu wud kill to have snoop dogg on their track. He is an international star!! admit it and be happy for him hez now working with the like of kanye, jayz and kid cudi…let’s be happy for him and support him, he earned it and its not cool for y’ll to look dwn on his effort.

    July 2, 2011 at 4:53 pm

calm down guys, that was just God’s way of opening the door for him..when God wants to bless u, He can use something that doesn’t make sense to pave the way for u. He did not have to look like kanye west for him to be mistaken to be kanye.

Dbanj may God continue to guide your steps. Nice one bro.

Dbanj is one of the realest Naija artist I have ever seen. He is not shy and overcome with inferiority complex like some Nigerians who encounter the western media.

If he is too quiet and speaks “properly” – some people will say he is being fake
If he confidently speaks with his Naija accent – some people with an inferiority complex will say he is being razz

Also he is an entertainer, how can people expect him to act boring and shy all in the name of not being “Razz”.

Dbanj abeg continue to stay real and be yourself.

Btw, the title is very misleading ( you make Dbanj seem conceited ) – WATCH THE VIDEOS people

  38. sexysister

    July 3, 2011 at 2:51 pm

D’ banj in your interview it came across as if it is only ibo hausa and yoruba that matters in nigeria and that the rest of the world should care to know about. Well I have got news for you the other tribes see their tribes has major to them. As for your music some are good to listen to and some are just better be muted.

D’banj is a good artist. He will do great things for the Nigerian music industry abroad (in terms of representation). Mine opinion. 🙂

Note to self: don’t hate the player- hate the game.
I’m kanye West’s number one fan but – please even I know that he is not humble. D’Banj speaks of Kanye West Africa as if he is God. Too each his own sha. Gotta to love D’banj but he is just all over the place advertising his cheap phone and what not.

    July 5, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Lmao! All i can think about is Kanye West-Africa (Sway def held his laughter there), Mr Endowed remix was to celebrate Nigeria’s endowments with resources….the list goes on! I cracked up! Dude is natural and hilarious LOVE IT!
