BN Exclusive: Genevieve Nnaji rocks Dolce & Gabbana, meets Christian Louboutin & hangs out with Rosario Dawson at the 6th Annual Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Gala

Genevieve Nnaji & Christian Louboutin

Over the last few months, we’ve spotted Nigerian star Genevieve Nnaji rocking various fabulous pairs of shoes by Christian Louboutin. In September 2011, Genevieve attended the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Gala, an annual event held by Patron Mikhail Gorbachevat the beautiful Stud House, Hampton Court in the UK. The event was brimming with stars including Stephen FrySir Ben KingsleyAnna FrielRosario Dawson and Gene’s favourite shoe designer Christian Louboutin.

The white-tie Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Gala charity event was set up in 2006 by Mikhail Gorbachev in memory of the former Soviet president’s wife who died from leukaemia in 1999. The purpose of the event is to raise money for the battle against childhood cancer. Over the years, the foundation has raised millions for the cause.

The Pet Shop Boys sang after the dinner and fashion designer Vanessa G gave a sculpture to be auctioned alongside works donated by Antony Gormley, Sir Peter Blake & a neon sculpture by Tracey Emin which raised £70,000.

More than £1.1million was raised at the charity event. The evening was co-hosted by Evgeny Lebedev and Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter.

Genevieve also donated towards the cause as she bid and won one of auction lots on the night. She was dressed in a stunning floor-length scarlet A/W 2011 gown designed by Dolce & Gabbana. The Italian designers dressed her especially for the event and the gown was accessorized with a Dolce & Gabbana leopard print beaded clutch.

    This lady is too beautiful

    • IKeepsIt100PerCent October 24, 2011 at 3:27 am

Genny is an absolutely stunning girl and you can even say that she is bigger than Rosario Dawson (if you compare achievements and worldwide relevance).
HOWEVER, compare how much better Rosario looks to Genevieve. For all we know, Rosario may be wearing a ZARA dress (not that she is) but she looks wayyy more refined than Genevieve in Dolce & Gabbana!
Her body is CONSISTENTLY in shape while Genny is hit or miss. And certainly a miss here. Look at her tummy, when it’s not like she’s had a baby in a while. Look at her heavy arms.
Her hair, complete mess. Rosario’s hair is most likely hers with some extra that COMPLIMENTS hers. Genny just looks like she’s trying to hide her hair. It’s just sub-par.
Rosario’s skin looks great because her makeup is welldone. Genny’s makeup looks incongruent and just messy. REFINEMENT is what Nollywood needs!

The reason Hollywood women are taken seriously as stars is because they LOOK the part. Genny just looks like an average guest and we know she’s not! Nigerian stars need to work out, eat well and trim all those ‘excess’ fat that we call ‘body’. It’s nonsense. Look like an absolute goddess. There’s nothing wrong with that. Stop lagging behind the world and blaming it on Africa. If you can’t do it, pay a team who will!

      • kambinachi October 24, 2011 at 11:17 am

it is mentality like your own that causes anorexia and body image issues in confused young ladies. how you can look at a radiant, healthy looking female like genevieve and write what you just did is beyond me.

what is the relevance of comparing her to the rosario dawson? none of your comparisons seem valid enough, it’s like comparing peas and carrots. like saying “look at that silly carrot, instead of it to be as green and round as the pea, look at the unhealthy orange colour it went to take. and it’s so shapeless in comparison to the perfect round pea.”

genevieve and rosario are two different women, of different socio-economic contexts and of different body types. they both look very healthy, and there is no reason why one should try to attain anything of the other. if truth be told, after reading what you typed, i had to have a double take at the pics to make sure the rosario you are comparing genevieve to is the same one i saw in the pictures, because quite frankly, i think genevieve looks better than rosario, but that’s a subjective opinion, i guess.

now to the issue of genevieve having “heavy arms” and a tummy. are you kidding me? so what is wrong with having a bit of weight? must everybody be stick-skinny? this genevieve i can see in the picture obviously looks healthy, why must everyone confirm to the weszt’s idea of beauty? so people who exercise and still are not able to lose weight should now do what? my dear, being skinny is not the goal. the goal is to be healthy.

you and other people who think like this need to re-orientate the way you think. learn to see beyond the superficial and create a model of what is acceptable and right for yourself and not what you have been hypnotized to believe by the pages of a magazine

      • Shabach October 24, 2011 at 1:49 pm

HaHa!!!!!! Na wa for haters O, especially folks like you. Wetin person go do to please una for this world. If na Genny wear the kin dress Rosario wear una go complain, if she thin like Rosario una go still complain. Ki lo de…..????

How on earth can anyone compare Genny with Rosario. Even Hollywood won’t list Rosario on its top 10 hottest women list. Eva Mendez, Scarlett, JLO, Beyonce etc are all voluptuous women and their society is proud of them.
Abeg Genny, let haters like ‘Ikeepsit100percent'(I keeps it….hmmm….the oyinbo sef sounds funny) keep hating whilst you keep rising and rocking those CL.

By the way good job Vannesa. Hope we get other Nollywood folks support laudable/charitable causes as this even locally.

      • jackie October 25, 2011 at 1:42 am

it’s about you really, isn’t it?
POSER: IF YOU WERE IN THAT CROWD OF FAMOUS, I’M SURE YOU WOULD HAVE MELTED AWAY! [not out of admiration, but out of complex]
by the way, i assure you that rosario would have been very grateful to be in the same picture with a full blooded unadulterated African straight from the homeland – mother Africa[that kind of thing means a lot to african americans], not to mention the NO 1 AFRICAN ACTRESS [and i dare say PRINCESS] OKAY!!!
if you look carefully, you can see rosario leaning forward, while gene is as relaxed as if she’s at home!
        RESPECT! OKAY!!!

      • Jay October 25, 2011 at 3:05 am

I get what you are saying. The problem with a lot of these people is that when they do not agree with your opinion on Nigerian celebs they call you a hater. I hope you don’t call your professor a hater when he/she doesn’t agree with you.
I don’t think Genevieve looks bad but I agree with you that she doesn’t stand out beside Rosario who is not a big star as Genevieve. I follow Genevieve and the chick talks about working out. The problem may not be her weight (I think her body looks good. She may want to tone up if she so desires) but with the way she presents herself. In all honesty, Genevieve’s hair and make up hardly ever look nice. She does the same type of make up all the time and someone of her status shouldn’t be wearing this type of makeup. I have noticed that this make up sometimes makes her look tired. She definitely needs a good team of personal stylists to help her out. The fact that she is not just sitting in Africa shows that she wants to be internationally known. She is a talented actress, but there are other talented actresses too. Hollywood is also about the image and I feel she has to stand out in that department.

      • yes boss!! (Y) October 26, 2011 at 3:18 pm

      • hycien July 19, 2014 at 10:09 pm

you are not only foolish but stupid to think for a second that Genny is less than your so-called ROSARIO . She is not only CLASSLES BUT TASTELESS while genny is A SUPER AFRICAN STAR. get this in to your – brain

  • cathy October 21, 2011 at 3:31 pm

you are the best babe around wow!!!! love you swell

  • NK October 21, 2011 at 3:32 pm

  • madman October 21, 2011 at 3:32 pm

She’s an example to Nigerian women, you don’t have to be married to live a “full” and well-rounded life….. to all those fasting and praying for husbands, take a chill pill and LIVE.

    • dorothy October 21, 2011 at 10:49 pm

  • Noni October 21, 2011 at 3:46 pm

@Madman(lol).. i bet to disagree… everywoman needs a good man to complete her!

    • madman October 21, 2011 at 3:52 pm

thanks you find humor in my comment. I don’t like to write lengthy essays but the point I was trying to convey is that, some women put their lives on hold in search of “the one”….. Nnaji is very well accomplished despite not having a “man.”

      • ADERONKE October 21, 2011 at 11:58 pm

Well said, most ppl concentrate on man hunt and forget to live in the process

    • diana October 22, 2011 at 8:57 am

@ Noni…not every woman needs a man to complete her. A real woman is complete in herself. I suppose what you are saying is widows are incomplete then.

    • Jay November 1, 2011 at 12:44 am

WTH? You need to have a seat or two with that comment.

  • Ms. Jayee October 21, 2011 at 3:49 pm

genny is the most celebrated actress in africa ….believe it or die doubting

  • nich October 21, 2011 at 4:01 pm

the reason why she does not want o marry is because she already has a child…..her child completes her….

  • justsayin October 21, 2011 at 4:06 pm

@ Noni, a woman does not need a man to complete her rather to complement her and vice versa. We should already be complete before getting married if not what are you going to be adding to the union.

  • Miss bee October 21, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Please who does her PR??? talk about being at the right place and the right time!!!

    • Truthspeaker October 21, 2011 at 5:15 pm

Last time i checked it was Mildred Okwo(She wrote and produced 30 days)

      • Getyafactsstraight October 21, 2011 at 6:32 pm

        NO! NO! NO!
MILDRED DOES NOT MANAGE GENEVIEVE – POINT OF CORRECTION – She managed her for less than a year.

      • feyi October 22, 2011 at 8:53 am

genevieve PR is clearing by VA-PR and VA stands for Venessa Amadi. she is the young lady with gene and rossario in the last photo.

i think genevieve’s manager is Ajua Dickson while Mildred Okwo used to be but now manages rita dominic and some other nollywood actors. truth me told ajua and mildred are one hella managers especially ajua because handling a star like genevieve takes a whole lot!!!

and mildred is currently filming a new movie. she is one of the best directors today, imho. watch out for her film 🙂

    • Blush October 22, 2011 at 8:57 am

And the award goes to Genny.

  • e-bukun October 21, 2011 at 9:04 pm

Now THAT is branding. Go girl!

  • Tunmi October 21, 2011 at 9:14 pm

She is gorgeous and I love the seemingly effortless work. But I don’t like the dress’s length on her. Strapless is beautiful on her.

Now please work on toning your body. Yoga or samba or a non-rigorous (lifting weights is not a priority) activity.

  • @AfricanLaReina October 21, 2011 at 9:22 pm

OMG she took a pic with christian louboutin *fainting* I love Genevieve, she’s living my dream. I’ll meet her at the top soon ISA

  • truth hurts October 22, 2011 at 12:45 pm

    • cece October 22, 2011 at 9:45 pm

Angelina is someone who is trying to compensate for all the bad decisions, choices she’s made. She wants to prove to the world that she’s this superwoman, and not a bad person who adopts children from all around the world. I’m not impressed at all. I respect real humanitarians who do it, not for the fame of it, but because it’s coming from the heart. You don’t know what some people are doing, behind the scene it might be helping one or two people but because it’s not publicized, it’s not recognized. I dislike the obsession with Jolie, like she’s the first to adopt a child. Get out of here.

    • missy October 22, 2011 at 11:21 pm

absolutely right! people this days are so blinded by very unneccessary things! she is busy globetrotting and partying what movie has she starred in this yr?

    • Mabel October 24, 2011 at 8:20 am

To be honest, you cannot force someone to be something they are not. Angelina has a humanitarian spirit, that’s part of her makeup. Not every person is going to dole out 30% of their income to humanitarian causes. Does that make Genny a bad person? I don’t think so, would it be great if she was more humanitarian? absolutely. But it is definitely not fair to tell someone how to live their life simply because you want them to meet your expectation and make you happy. She has to live the life that feels good for her and please her own self, that’s what we all do in life anyway.

    • Akat November 11, 2011 at 12:11 am

Is it that you didnt read the above news or what? Ok, let me break it down for you… Genevieve was at an event organised to raise money for kids with cancer. She bid and won one of the articles auction (bid and won meaning that she PAID for it) and that money she contributed would benefit a kid suffering from cancer somewhere. What else do you want her to do eh kwa??? There seems to be so much haterade in the stores now cos the hate is really disturbing. We are always quick to put down our stars and uphold the westerners. Well news flash truth hurts, the westerners uphold their own, lets try to do same and dont even get me started on Angelina Jolie- life outside charity.

  • Luvlyn October 22, 2011 at 1:50 pm

In those kind of event, taking a pic wif CL is like a meet-and -greet pic dat any of his fans can take wif him. Same goes wif Rosario D. How does des pics mean she is mingling wif dem? Anyone cud hav posed wif des celebs for pics. Isnrt dis so obvious?
    Nice dress thou.

    • toriola October 22, 2011 at 10:41 pm

if you want it to be well with you, you must be happy for those whom its already well with. it is well with Genny. It shall be well with you Luvly…in the meantime, stop hating!

  • chi October 22, 2011 at 1:55 pm

the colour of the dress would have been better suited on a lighter skinned girl. Same goes for Ini Edo’s dress in the Noble event!

    • Jay November 1, 2011 at 12:56 am

You had better be joking with that comment! So only a girl who is ‘lighter” in complexion can pull a red silk dress off? SMH.

  • BeeBee October 22, 2011 at 2:18 pm

She looks lovely but sorry what was the aim of attending this event? Publicity? Interest in leukemia?….Not hating, proud of her and happy she wants to go international but all the pics of her on BN have been with one designer or the other. It might make people lose focus of who she actually is which is a great actress. I think she should tone down on the wanna-be attitude, at least she looks fantastic at the events. If she is so interested in leukemia, she can start something here, THEN invite her famous friends and have like a runway thing as I hear she has or used to have a clothing line…..Just my opinion……

  • cool cat October 22, 2011 at 2:24 pm

Sorry to say but dat dress, D&G or not is not cool at all. Looks like those cheap satin dresses bridesmaids r forced to wear. Plus, her guy is protruding a bit and spanx shoulda been involved with the get up.

That being said its fab dat she’s making such great strides in her career(actress now socialite I guess) but can she really afford all d louby’s, D&G’s, and now auctions??? How much can she bid? Its not cheap fratenizing with the rich and famous o, those pple go thru bills like its toilet paper. Just saying…

  • trutalker October 22, 2011 at 5:30 pm

way 2 go gurl…! Genny is goin places o. Oda nollywood actresses shud learn 4rm her profile. She is an epitome of elegance in itself. N her carriage as a lady is worth emullating. Vannesa Amadi seems to be a brilliant publicist. This is the first time have heard of her,but for the last one year have wondered abt who is behind the good press ms. Nnaji has been getting. She is doing all the right things right now…#proudlyNigeria

  • omomo October 23, 2011 at 1:20 am

Genny is the babe, anytime, anyday.Nne i di ok!

  • Toyin October 23, 2011 at 4:17 am

Where is the work! You people do not understand Hollywood at all. Gene leave all these nonsense and do 3 serious movies and see what happens with your career. Hoping that one director will spot you on the red carpet is only 40 percent of the job.

  • Wiklo October 23, 2011 at 5:22 am

where is the beef?….get her into a hollywood movie Ms. Vanessa!

  • Wiklo October 23, 2011 at 5:27 am

Remember Ene Oloja of cock crow at dawn??..she was in a hollywood movie with Jodie Foster – “Brave One”…assist this chick get a role in a Hollywood movie instead of just showing her take pictures with celebs…with her good acting and looks she should be an easy sell to top producers / directors…where is Tyler Perry when you need him!

    • naveah October 26, 2011 at 5:26 pm

I totally agree with you but Tyler Perry ain’t checking for Africans! His movies are about the lives, times and experiences of African AMERICANS, not Africans at home or in the diaspora unless that African can sling some ebonics or speak with an American accent. I doubt that he would be hiring Genevieve for any of his projects, besides he appears to work solely with actors with name/face recognition because he wants butts in theater seats. But yes, she needs to get like Ene Oloja and start doing serious films with serious impact like Viva Riva, Brave One, Skin, Hotel Rwanda, Blood Diamond – movies that will challenge her, movies that if they aren’t just telling African stories but they have a mix of characters that are African and Non-Africans like the upcoming feature Ties that Bind that the ChichiLuv person mentioned in my quoted posting. She needs to do something new and different to continuously set herself apart from the rest of the pack, attending parties and being photographed with Noami Campbell, Dolce & Gabanna, Rosario Dawson is not a solid career move; all that says is “I am now travelling in a different social strata”. She doesn’t have to cross to Hollywood but she certainly has enough money and clout to option a novel/book, hire a screen writer to write something deep, strong and like I said earlier impactful, hire a solid producer/director/crew to shoot it instead of still doing soap opera drivel like Felicima, Love My Way, Silent Scandal. The last decent, watchable movie that she didn’t look bored and lost in was probably Letters to a Stranger.

If Genevieve Nnaji is not careful, she will soon become more of a public figure/personality/socialite than an actress. She is certainly capable of a lot more.

  • swag chic October 23, 2011 at 7:18 am

Gene, u inspire me. I remember those days on my reading desk in london, chatting away, I read on naira land, that u won’t amount to any thing abroad. Your swag can’t be compared to likes of hollywood and I argued that you neent have to be in america like those hating lots, speaking their fake american/nija accent to compete favourably with the likes in hollywood. I was booed to a standstill. Now look at you honey, u are just exotic to say the least. I love u girl! Sm bad belle pple in nigeria did every thing possible to break didn’t work. • Ifeoma-adiagwuagwu October 24, 2011 at 11:04 am

    genevieve nnaji, well done 🙂

  • Sirimena October 24, 2011 at 11:19 am

i have always been and will always be a fan which is why i think she shld watch that tommy….she looked a lot more fit wen she was face of lux,i think she has relaxed too much on physical fitness…she is still my fav screen goddess,i just think she shld pay more attention to the fat build up in the wrong places…

  • JoJo October 24, 2011 at 1:46 pm

She looks nice. Her makeup needs to be more flawless. Her forehead always looks greasy. I can tell she lost about 5 pounds to fit into the dress. With black women, I dont care how much weight we lose, we will always appear rounder and more plump than white women. Thats the way god made us and we look good with our extra body fat. Overall, she looks good.

  • atu October 24, 2011 at 2:48 pm

their dresses are not made for black women. they are actually made for stick thin white women. Genny is an exception…

  • Nonnie October 24, 2011 at 4:29 pm

    Simply defined Classy

  • LillyG October 24, 2011 at 6:33 pm

I love Gene – she’s got it all. Keep representing. You are definitely going places and I must say you look stunning!

  • fawaz anem October 24, 2011 at 6:47 pm

There is nothing bad with her dress or her weight. She looks good like that. But the issue is When is she going to be married? That luxious life will bring nothing. A togolese that do follows that website.I am a fan of nollywood

    • Chi-ka October 24, 2011 at 9:03 pm

    • Jay November 1, 2011 at 1:38 am

How is the fact that she’s not married an issue? The “issue” is why you think marriage is everything. Not every married couple is happy! If she’s happy with her status, let her be!

  • Iphie October 25, 2011 at 11:48 am

    Hot Jenny!

  • Truthspeaker October 25, 2011 at 11:59 am

@Getyafactsstraight, No need to get your knickers in a twist hun…. Thats why i said “last time i checked” and Mildred Okwo was her manager/ PR at some point.

@Feyi, thanks for the update 🙂

  • Aadepeju October 25, 2011 at 12:57 pm

who is this ikeepit…… blah blah blah, try to be constructive with your criticism, morover the only thing wrong with Gene sincerely is her make up, which she can do better, but as far as I’m concerned she looks beautiful and natural and I will choose her over Rosario, whom I had to think twice before remembering anyway, and she acts tom-boy in most of her films. about Gene’s hair, guys are we loking at the same pix?
Let’s give it up to this girls, if you are Nigerian and you have Gene’s shape “after one” then you are one out of a hundred.

  • Ziariz October 25, 2011 at 4:31 pm

i think she looks very well put together…she has had more interesting looks granted but this just means her stylist needs to up her game some more cos genny is definitely covering more ground.

personally am proud of her..and i know she is just beginning her journey to international stardom.

  • Ice October 25, 2011 at 5:06 pm

The very chic !!! just can’t stop loving you..muwahhhh!

  • bibi October 26, 2011 at 1:45 am

    go genny……….hatersssssssssssss abeg sit down

  • naveah October 26, 2011 at 3:37 pm

Saw this on Linda Ikeji’s blog and I agree somewhat:

ChiChiLuv wrote…This reminds me of Eva Longoria’s style. She looks beautiful but this is not my concern with Genevieve right now, my concern is when is she going to up her game in acting? What drew me to Genevieve was her acting NOT her fashion, yes, it is nice that from Keeping Faith to today, she has grown in leaps and bounds fashion wise. I don’t buy DVDs for that, I buy DVDs to see acting.

Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with Nollywood; of course, one should NOT bite the hand that has fed one but a child must eventually grow up, leave home and make his/her way in the world. When is she going to work with directors/producers that are NOT Nigerian/Nollywood, expand her wings, her horizon? She has been stagnated, I’m sorry to say, she is in a rot!?

I BEG UNA, THIS IS NO COMPARISON O SO MAKE UNA NO CRUCIFY ME but Omotola has since shot films in London with NON Nigerian actors/directors there as well as working on Ties that Bind with Kimberly Elise (Diary of a Mad Black Woman, John Q, For Colored Girls, Set It Off), Randall Batinkoff (KickAss) which according to face book will be presented at an invite only critics screening in Toronto next month therefore exposing her to yet another group of audiences outside of the usual US/London/Nigeria/Ghana etc. Even Stephanie Okereke moved on to LA for a year and wrote/produced/directed a feature, so I ASK what is going on with Genevieve’s career? Even if she’s going to work with Nigerian directors, she needs to start working with ones like Jeta Amata who are bring trying to do something beyond the usual Nollywood soap opera love story etc.

All this PR is great, flitting from one party to another in London and everywhere BUT are you networking Gennie? Or are you just collecting appearance fees like Kim Kardashian without thinking about how all those appearances can PUSH YOUR CAREER TO THAT NEXT LEVEL. She has worked hard at carving an “I AM A STAR” image from what we see in this picture, the next thing is putting down the kind of work that supports that image.

  • Tina M October 30, 2011 at 6:29 pm

I’m not a fan of Genevieve but I think she looks nice. Why would she need to tone and stuff when she’s already skinny? Most Nigerian women are way bigger than her! And just for the record, attending fancy parties in the UK does not mean that she is living a full life.

  • chioma Obi-Yomi November 4, 2011 at 10:40 am
