Thank God it’s Friday! It’s Onos O and welcome to this week’s installment of BN Music Friday Top 5.

The weather’s getting hotter, the rains are getting heavier and schools are preparing to (for the ones that haven’t) send students and pupils home for the holidays – Yup! you guessed it – “Summer’s here” (or at least right around the corner).

So, this week’s episode is dedicated to those jams out this year we think embody the chillax-ness of summer or on the other hand, exude that loud uptempo summer feel we’ve grown to know over the years and somewhat look forward to; and are bound to be rocking the clubs and parties all summer.

Here’s the countdown:

5. Selebobo – Yoyo

With its elements of Makossa, Etighi, that J Martins‘ feel, even Azonto in some places, Selebobo‘s “Yoyo” is a mixture of all things summer represents – relaxation, partying, dance and with the right people, just the right amount of “Hyper” you need to get through the day.

4. D’Prince – Why You Over There

Although D’Prince‘s “Take Banana”, to me, seems to be the most played track off the Mavin All Stars‘ “Solar Plexus” album right now (OK! may be second to Tiwa Savage‘s “Oma Ga”), I have a very strong feeling that the energy “Why You Over There” exudes is just what any “Holiday-maker” needs to get through their summer.

It’s entertaining, funny, lively and even though it may make you say “yansh” more regularly than you may be comfortable with, it definitely incites excitement.

3. Timaya – Sexy Ladies

Timaya‘s “Shake Your Bum Bum” has had its fair share (about 25%, tied with Iyanya‘s “Kukere”) of airplay in every club or party I have attended this year.

But, his recent release “Sexy Ladies”, is another party starter from Timaya which I think is more in tune for the Summer – from the Pop/Dance instrumentation to the chillax-ness of his vocals, “Sexy Ladies” purely embodies the typical Summer jam.

2. DJ Jimmy Jatt Feat. Vector & Teniim – Spin (Ofe Pa Mi)

“Ofe Pa Mi” makes me feel like I’m in a pool party (you know all those ones we see in music videos with plenty girls in bikinis, beach balls and balloons… yeah, one of those).

The song is just so hype, with Vector‘s delivery on this track reminiscent of 3OH!3, Far East Movement, The Cataracs or even LMFAO, although never loosing his peculiar Vector-ness. DJ Jimmy Jatt‘s got a club-banging summer jam on his hands.

1. Burna Boy – Like To Party

Now, Burna Boy‘s “Like To Party” sits quite comfortably at the number one spot because unlike the other songs on the countdown, “Like To Party” is so chilled and laidback, and reminiscent of songs like DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince‘s “Summertime” or Skee-Lo‘s “I Wish”, that it paints pictures of you on the beach in your mind.

So far, no other song out this year embodies the meaning of “Summer Jam” like Burna Boy‘s “Like To Party” does.
