Pregnant Woman Caught With 51 Wraps of Cocaine at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja

Published

 on

The story of 38 year-old Mbechi Obiageli Susan, a Nigerian woman who was caught with 51 wraps of cocaine is an astonishing one. It’s not the first time a Nigerian woman would be caught using desperate measures to import or export cocaine; what makes her case more interesting is the fact that she is three months pregnant and ingested 51 wraps of cocaine in an attempt to bring the illicit drugs into Nigeria.

Mbechi who resides in Brazil was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on her way from Sao Paulo, Brazil, by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after she was discovered with cocaine with the aid of a scanning machine.

She claimed to be three months pregnant and during the process of profiling, passed 51 pellets of cocaine weighing 900 grammes.

Vanguard reports that she cited poverty as the reason for her action.

The Abuja airport commander of NDLEA, Mr. Hamisu Lawan while commenting on her arrest told Vanguard that he was shocked at the escalating rate of women’s involvement in criminality especially illicit drug trafficking.

Why is there an increase in the rate of women’s involvement in illicit drug trafficking? What do you think about the reason she gave for her actions? What are the health risks of ingesting cocaine as a pregnant woman?

Please share your thoughts.

Madam you’re a shame to mother-hood. What if the cocaine burst and kill the baby iam sure you don’t care. God please have mercy on us. I am a mother and i know how i cherish and love an unborn baby when i am pregnant this is not fair to the child. Her reason for this is not acceptable its an abuse to the unborn child. So dance your music

My gosh! This is hard to read and believe! I speak to many people who have been praying for a child, many have spent thousands on fertility treatment and there goes this lady endangering her unborn child! I can only thank God that the child was unharmed! I pray the experience will teach her a lesson.

She said it is poverty that pushed her into drug trafficking? Yet she is about to bring another innocent soul into the world to join her in her poverty? This lady cannot even take care of herself and yet she is pregnant and about to bring another mouth into the world to feed? How is she planning to cope? I hate the idea of people bringing other people into the world when they don’t have the finances to take care of a child.

See her mouth like poverty. Please they should distinguish between a person saying I wanted the money so that I can have millions in my account from I wanted the money so I could buy bread and juice for today. One is greed, the other poverty.

She is unthinking and selfish and should be can for child endagerment amongst other charges.
She wan’t thinking about her unborn chid, neither was she thinking about all the people that will probably OD on the drugs she was importing. Poverty my foot. I guess she thinks that is a plausible excuse….

are you asking for the risks ???? where do you want me to start from ? death of the unborn child, abnormality of the baby (if she gives birth), having a stroke, which can result in irreversible brain damage and the list goes on!!! i don’t care if it was poverty, she went out of line! I hope when she gives birth the child gets taken away from her. Apparently, she doesn’t consider children as a blessing.
