On Becoming a Man: You and the “Spiri-auditors”

“Spiri… what?”

Yes, I coined that. And, this is about you.

You have been searching for meaning and asking yourself questions, upon questions.

You believe in the all-knowing, ever-present, omnipresent, can-do-all-things supernatural being that rules the affairs of men. But, there is a problem. You cannot cope with most of his followers, co-followers. You have changed gatherings and moved from one location to another, even across continents. They are everywhere, but those on this continent, in this country, are one-of-a-kind!

They have made themselves judges over you. As far as they are concerned, you have lost your freedom, and must be under their perpetual watch. They have taken the rules, written and unwritten, farther than you could ever imagine. Always monitoring you – who you speak with, what you are wearing, the placement of your pants around your waist, the kind of hairstyle you choose to wear, the type of hair cut you got, where you hang out and even what you say – their only mission in life is to make life hell on earth for you.

You, who took that life-changing decision only two years ago, must now find a solution. No doubt, it was the sanest decision you could have taken after living a life of addiction – to illicit drugs, weed, orgies, whatever it was you could call sin. You, who were heading down the precipice until grace, not the one you drugged two summers past, found you. You, who downed a crate at a sitting to win a hundred bucks. You, whose father and mother disowned for dragging the immaculate family name in the mud.

You were cleaned up that day you cried and offered sincere words from a broken soul, a contrite heart.

Many times, you want to ask questions that prick your mind, but you dare not because they will doubt whether you truly made that decision to take a turn and live a different life. You must believe everything you are told in the community.

They can barely stand you – you do not speak their language.

You fear that one day, they might unearth your past and find a million evidences to justify throwing you into eternal damnation. You want to fit in and feel cool in the community.

You are now looking at me. Buddy, dust up and let’s talk briefly. I am not sure I have that solution today; that potion to keep the ‘Spiri-auditors’ at bay. You have got to make the One you believe your primary audience. What does He say about you? What does He think about you? Or, what do you know He thinks about you? You were found by grace, so live by that same grace.

I for one don’t get moved by all these people! Think whatever you want to think! I just don’t care! Any prophet or spiricoco that comes to me revealing my past saying he or she is sent by God will be shut up straight! Yes! U know why? my God say my sins He will remember no more! So if u remember as a person, check the spirit that is telling you! shikena!

Many are trapped in the claws of senseless religion that gives physical justification but empties the heart.

Keep your eyes on Jesus friends, he’s the only one you should be looking at and looking to.

    Lovely article. Thanks.

I think this is brilliant, really.

Isn’t it funny how we can’t cope with people who have the same faith as us? Especially those you have engaged in spiritual gymnastics with. Why won’t they help u when u need it? And the many other questions we may want to ask.

Casting Crowns’ Stained Glass Masquerade also says it very nicely too.

Gbenga……… you’re speaking my heart right now ohhhhhhhh.

Fighting with a recent stirring in my spirit about finding a new place to worship… not because I haven’t long realised I should ignore the spiri-auditors but even without giving them face, dem still dey my face, you feel me? And dem just dey everywhere. If you’re worshipping back home, if you’re worshipping in jand… everywhere, really. So which church person wan go? Abi na to dey house do your own church?

E tire person. People with very real counselling needs exist in our congregations (especially the young ‘uns in their late teens/early 20s, can you imagine what it’s like being a Christian youth in today’s morally depraved society???) but we can’t help each other in the Body of Christ because of the many judges who exist within the church. E TIRE PERSON!!

those that are perfect and don’t need the Physician need not come to church.

Sadly, there is a terrible rot in the Church, and things won’t get better till the Church is raptured and the Church Age is over. No matter how bad things are in church, we shouldn’t get weary in well doing. There’s a Church within the church, and those are the people Jesus is coming back for. You see the church is like a hospital, and we know that people go to hospitals for different reasons: check-up, treatment, and other reasons. Similarly, you’ll find saints, sinners, and even satan in church. The Bible commands all Christians “not to neglect the gathering of the Brethren” ~ Heb 10:25. So no matter how bad the church is, we aren’t to operate solo. If your church has been overtaken by the powers of darkness, evil works, politics, and all sorts of power play, you need to find a new church or people of similar beliefs to align with, because Christ’s coming is soon, and you don’t have time for anybody to be dillydallying with your soul! In looking for a church, look for where they emphasize the following: salvation through Jesus alone, holiness, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, spiritual warfare, prosperity in it’s entirety (of body, soul and spirit), charity, restitution, eternity (heaven or hell), Christ’s Second Coming, and the sufficiency and supremacy of the Bible. I wish everyone well.

The fuuny thing is that lots of people cry out about being judged by people yet they are also judging others… its become a life style for many. And yes am talking to you complaining, watch it too and be sure you are not a spiri – auditor!!!

@LatestBabe, I think that you have brought an interesting POV to this conversation. I also believe that balance is essential in life; truth is: it is not always a simple task. Balance can be so delicate and complex to achieve. Think about how many of us sometimes make a career out of criticizing our leaders so much that we soon start to (ignorantly) expose our own imperfection. May we find balance and wisdom in all these things. Shallom! 🙂

When people go to “babalawo”, “dibia” or native witch doctors, they follow instructions carved out of stones they never see or know the author! They believe every incantation he wishes to utter without reasoning it out logically as we are doing here.
When it comes to things of God, Christians are always tempted to shoot themselves on the toe by way of self criticism. And that on its own is sinful! Remember Psalm 1. Who said there are no Judases in the church anyway? We meet Judases in our homes, offices, businesses yet we live with them ‘cos we have the Grace to manage them.
The spirit of God in you will always guide you aright if you truly believe and work in consonance with laws of the Author of the universe. After-all early worshipers were direct chosen from pagans who were righteous.
Church is never a building but worshipers who gather to adore God. That a priest carves out a niche from the truth in the word of God does not make the word itself untrue. What is faith by the way if we work out how God ought to answer prayers? And who are custodians of the faith in the church which exists in you? This is the main job of our spiritual auditors—-the priests. If they (priests) blow a whistle for a red card, a real christian ought to know if he/has actually derailed ‘cos the spirit of God dwells in him. And when a christian asks for forgiveness, he knows that God has heard him, so do not need another reminder or record of it cos he wont go back to sin again. That you are psyched to carry “forgiven” sins along simply shows that one is not well informed on whats written in the scriptures.
