Mercedes Benz SUV, Range Rover Sport & Other Exotic Cars Seized as EFCC arrest “Yahoo Boys” at 1004 in Lagos

“One of the undergraduates, Hope Olusegun, a 25 year-old from Okene in Kogi State, and claims to be a student of Computer Science at the Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University, Malaysia. He was arrested by operatives of EFCC over allegations of fraud and internet scam.

8 young men were apprehended at the 1004 Estate in Victoria Island on Friday 4th of January 2013. Wilson Uwujaren, Head of Media and Publicity for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed.

Sources tell BN that the EFCC acted on a tip-off from a resident of the estate. “A petition by a concerned group alerted the Commission about the activities of Olusegun and his co-travelers at the elite 1004 Housing Estate where the fraudsters engaged in fraudulent activities of obtaining money by false pretences and forgery.

The EFCC press release states

“One of the undergraduates, Hope Olusegun, a 25 year-old from Okene in Kogi State, and claims to be a student of Computer Science at the Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University, Malaysia. He was arrested by operatives of EFCC over allegations of fraud and internet scam.

A search conducted by EFCC operatives at Olusegun’ s apartment led to the recovery of several items such as laptops, iPad phones, traveling documents, cheque books, flash drives, internet modem, and three exotic cars – a Mercedes Benz Jeep, One 4Matic Mercedes Benz Car and a Range Rover Sport SUV. When asked how he came about the cars, Olusegun said the cars belonged to his sister who he claimed lives in the United Kingdom. Operatives of the EFCC also downloaded over 80 implicating documents from the laptops recovered from Olusegun.

However, the Commission is making effort to track down other members of Olusegun’s syndicate who are currently at large. Tunde Wasiu Sodiq, another undergraduate and member of another syndicate with close affinity to Olusegun’s gang was also nabbed by operatives of the EFCC at the Housing Estate.

Besides Sodiq, six other members of the syndicate were equally arrested. They are Badmus Akeem O, Ajijola Oluwatosin Emmanuel, Adebesin Olalekan, Raji Resaq O, Ajibola Adeniyi and Adeboye Lamidi.

Their arrest was sequel to a petition on their notorious activities at the Housing Estate. Sodiq (23) hails from Lagos and claimed to be an undergraduate of Brandry University, Malaysia .

The leader of the syndicate, Badmus Akeem, hails from Ayetoro, Ogun State and attended Oniwaya High School, Agege. He claimed to be a traveler who does odd jobs wherever he travels.”

YahooHere is what the alleged leader of the syndicate Badmus Akeem is quoted to have said – “I decided to move to Malaysia to further my education while I do “Hot jobs” as well. I just got back a week ago before the festive period and also produce music and manage artistes.

When asked why he chose to live in 1004 at the rate of N30,000 daily, he responded that it was to avoid the stress that friends and relations could bring to him – “I didn’t stay on the Mainland in Lagos because of stress of friends when you just get back from abroad.

Sodiq claimed the Range Rover Sport car which was recovered from them belonged to his mother. This raised suspicions as the personalized number plate bears his nickname – “T.Wizzle”. In his statement, he claimed his mother “decided to customize the car plate number after the name of her first son.

The representative of the EFCC confirmed that the suspects will be arraigned in court soon. In addition to the vehicles, other items seized include laptops, flash drives, internet modems and cheque books.

abiooo, these efcc guys are idiots. Personally i am sure that this young men are guilty of some level of fraud, but, you cannot bash someone for something until you have proven them guilty of the crime, which they havent done. Plus they have bigger fishes like politicians who steal billions and other crimes committed by top elites, and yet all they chase are young men trying to fend for themselves. I dont know how lucaritive or legit the work the young men do is, but to solve this whole problem they should ask them to provide their income tax or something that shows their yearly earnings and how they make their money. And personally not that i support yahoo boys, but the truth is greed begets greed, am sure those they ripped off, wanted what wasnt due to them.

“these yahoo boys make hardworking guys look as if they are not working hard enough. they should be put away for a long time abeg.”

Nnenne, Yoruba medical doctors and university lecturers here in Cape Town always say exactly that! See them on Facebook! It is so bad that the Home Affairs Department (Immigration Control) now badly scrutinizes the genuine professionals who are applying for Permanent Residency or other visas by their tribe origins!
In South Africa generally, this is how nigerians are known:
      1. Igbos = Drugs and drugs and drugs and more dugs.
      2. Yorubas and Edo guys = Anything Fraud/ Yahoo
      3. Nigerian girls = prostitution

This has tarnished the image of genuine, hardworking Nigerian professionals and students.

  11. Capetonian

    January 7, 2013 at 3:11 pm

I hope EFCC arrest all the Yoruba Yahoo Boys based in Cape Town (South Africa). Everything about this group coincidentally resembles the Cape Town based ones, i.e
    1. Yorubas originally from Kogi and Ogun State, currently on holiday in the Island
    2. Renting expensive apartments in the Island
    3. Bought and shipped brand new Range Rovers, Lexus SUVs, ML classes, etc from the US to Lagos
    4. On student visas in SA but they don’t even know a single entrance to any education institutions
    5. Only own Apple products to an extent of having 5 different iPhones each!
BN please show us their images….

EFCC are so silly, why are they chasing yahoo boys in the streets and promoting or elected armed robbers to house and senate. Even EFCC are the pure? if they wish to do a nice job, they should start from the president, governors, senators, house of reps, DG’s, Perm sec, even police. Fire bomb all of them

EFCC should spend their resources where it matters the most, sure you arrest a couple of small fish while the whales(politicians) swim around untouched.. If the EFCC really wants to show me that they mean business they should proceed with the arrest & prosecute the politicians that are fleecing Nigeria. I call this arrest window dressing, who is fooling who EFCC??

    January 8, 2013 at 12:36 am

To be Honest!! you wonder what kinda joke is this witch-hunting vessel called EFCC. Very keen to parade young Go -getters n hustlers out there like criminals. Like defrauding someone aint hard enuff. Not even like they were tailing the suspects to know what they were up to. They had to rely on some dead and malicious info from a choirmaster (aka snitch) i am utterly against the arrests or prosecution of these guys. (fair play, they cud ve gotten this dosh from fradulent activities abroad) My school of thought is that ”what happens in Malaysia stays in Malaysia”. if these guys r scamming next people in Malaysia, then it should be the sole responsibility of the Malayasian police to carry out this effect. Imagine making it across the borders oversees unscathed back to ones so-called motherland with ur riches and sanity. Only to be told the EFCC wants a share of the spoils. To me, its Mind Boggling. The same EFCC that cant recover a Dime from Global professional career Criminals seated in the top corridors of Power calling themselves legislators n Executive senators, some private entities included—SMH!! God is watching All of Us in Nigeria in ULTRA HD( rich n poor, you and me included) Abi y didnt the so called OYINBOS return the money ur govt officials stole from the coffers of the Republic to buy houses, businesses, hotels and live in luxury in their Land to the ordinary Nigerian People. Instead they only return a fraction of it to their guys in the Nigerian Govt and that ends it. (remember these r only one-offs and victims r usually dead. eg Abacha) or has anyone castigating these young boys enjoyed returned loot to d country– #justasking
In a Nutshell, in a country where corruption accounts for almost 60 percent of the GDP, it is simply beyond me that So far so good this year, the only recovered loot is just one Range Rover, a few phones n tabs cheque books etc.
HUMANITY IN NIGERIA is not yet Fully understood. kaii i’m tired of typing. Off to the klub to go and pop some Rose, with Some of my stolen SS Oil militant money. oya Efcc come and catch me now. #cunts

..nothing at all…so don’t blame awon boys for been on the streets…..if you don’t support gee please shut your f-ing mouth and keep it to yourself…..let me tell you something I have a Non govt organisation….i single handled sponsor it…I get assist from people sometimes….tell me how many of those politicians that go away scot free ever give back some money…..i will tell you….non zero….so please shut your f-ing mouth ok…whatever we do with our money is non of your business anybody wants to attack us it should be interpol and not our fellow Nigerians it’s like Dog eating dog….its easy bait so they chase us around… risk of then losing there jobs cause we don’t know mister president….but well God saves who ever comes to my crib…first they would have my bull dogs and rottweilers to converse with after that they would have mafia boys to negotiate with!….
