Zumba Fitness Class - BellaNaija - May2013
Haven’t you heard about Nigeria’s first Zumba Class? The fitness program started in 2011 in Abuja and has caught on really fast. Now it’s heading to Lagos.

Wondering what Zumba is? It’s a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps to form a fitness party atmosphere. It is for anyone and everyone who can stand up and dance, and don’t worry no knowledge or dance skills are necessary. If you can shake your body and like fun music then this class is for you. They also offer company group classes and private classes.

Lagos:
Date: Monday to Friday
Time: 7PM to 8PM
Venue: Fun Factory (beside Zenith bank) Lekki Phase1

Abuja:

Yayyyyy!!!!!! Love me some Zumba. Totally hooked. The Abuja instructor is so good you get to burn over 6oo calories in an hour. If you’re tired of staring at the white paint while on the treadmill then this is for you. Every workout is a parrie.

    Copy cats!
We are using Spanish dance to keep fit? When our own cultural dances can keep us fit as well.
When will we learn to embrace the beauty and health of our culture.
The westerners have no culture, so they take other people’s own and try to make it theirs. Come on guys! yeesh!
Anyway, I know sey my yarns just dey follow breeze. I don talk my own sha.

Why don’t you start a cultural dance fitness class and enroll people? Or at least find out where one is offered and publicize it? Any invalid monkey can point out problems – what have you done to be part of the solution?

That’s actually a business idea waiting for the right person. Brand Atilogwu or any energetic nigerian cultural dance for weight loss, hmmm…

As great as it is to embrace our own culture, it’s also good to be open to other cultures. People do Zumba all over the world, why should Nigeria be different? It’s fun and exercise! There wasn’t even Spanish/Latin dance and music in the Zumba class I attended (unfourtunately, I had been looking forward to that!). It was all pop.
