BN Weddings Trend Watch: Sequined & Blinged Gele

Bride Jade in Green and Peach Sequin Gele | Photo by Ewar Makeover

Here at BellaNaija Weddings we’re always on the lookout for the latest trends in Nigerian weddings. Remember our last BN Weddings Trend Watch on Sequins & Velvet Aso Ebi?

In 2010, bride Timi kicked off this trend with her crystal embellished gele {Click} and then our BN Brides Kehinde and Dami set the pace for this trend by rocking their fabulous blinged and sequined gele respectively. Since then, so many brides have upped the ante with exciting colour combinations and patterns. The trend works best on Aso-Oke as the stiffness of the fabric is the perfect canvas for the popping embellishments.

It’s such a beautiful trend and we can’t wait to see more! Enjoy!

Really wish I could make up like that..but I ve an oily noon, my face would start looking like I mixed oil with my make up. I can imagine how it would look in Nigeria. Please any suggestions pple or evn products?

      July 12, 2013 at 11:37 pm

@ laide- for ur oily face, get some milk of magnesia(MOM). it mattifies the face as a good primer would.all u need is a drop or 2 to apply on ur t zone after you ve mosturised. For more info, search for milk of magnium as a primer for black women on youtube, there are lots of makeup gurus who have done tutorials on MOM.I used it on a daily bases , hope it works for u.

      July 14, 2013 at 1:35 am

Thanks jare. I too have very oily face and hate wearing foundation for the same reason that it appears i’m melting by noon. Will look it up too.

      July 14, 2013 at 6:58 am

Dearest Bee, thanks a million! I had to come back for a review after using the product. I watched 2 of the videos on YouTube, b4 trying it out. I got the $4.99 MOM from Walgreen. My 1st attempt was awful 🙂 put a bit too much, hence it made my face sticky. Washed it off and tried again. This time, I only put 3-4 drops with my finger, and massaged it around b4 it dried up. Put my foundation, and finished with mineral powder. I am happy to report that I went to a wedding party, was on the dance floor for a couple of hours, sweated and my makeup was still intact till I got home to take a shower. I am definitely pleased with this product and will spread the word around! xx

Black skin are flawless, why do pple still bleach???

    • ao

      July 14, 2013 at 1:28 am

Black skin is indeed beautiful, but unfortunately, the favor – real or perceived – given to lighter people (especially women) can be very seductive. For me, clear and even-toned skin of any color is beautiful.
