The Top 12 contestants are faced with their first task in the competition to create a garment inspired by the Brazilian sultry dance, Samba within a short time frame! There’s no time for play when N1,000,000 (One Million Naira)  is at stake plus a whole lot of other fantastic prizes, including an all expense paid trip to Brazil courtesy of MultiChoice Nigeria for the challenge winner!

With an inspiration like that, one should expect a creative explosion of colours, rich textures and fluid fabrics! And did we get that? We certainly did, as contestants gave it their best! The judges were left floored with the great execution by contestants and with others, who eventually made the bottom four, they were left confused and underwhelmed.

Judges: Busola Tejumola (Multichoice Nigeria), Mai Atafo & Lanre Da Silva-Ajayi

Antoinette wowed judges and won the challenge with her gold sequin dress that featured a beaded fringe and feather sleeve and hem detail.

Not sure the right people were evicted. There are at least 2 dresses there that Mary’s dress looks better than…maybe one needs to have watched the show to appreciate the decisions made.

However…can we just stop press for OLUWATOBI’s dress?!!! It’s so well made, ready to wear, calling my name etc. I mean I’ve seen the style here and there so no undue swooning on originality…but I have to hand it to her finishing. I want that dress and I want it now!
    WHAT?!!!! #StandingOvation

I join in the #StandingOvation! One word describes that dress, CLEAN! Colour, fabric, finishing…SUPERB! Great dress for a musical event.

Tobi’s dress is ok! been there, done that. what the competition needs is the wow factor, fresh ideas, Tobi’s dress is safe.
I dont really get the vibe of samba from most of these clothes, the long dresses esp the blue one with the whole mermaid thing going on. nah!
most of the men designs look more like a normal Brazilian man on the streets or on some island vacation and not samba.
Pls am i wrong, i thought samba was the dance and the sensuality and the whole samba kini sha.
would love to watch the show sha, always loved project runway.

Antoinette and Elvis got the samba idea…although I would have loved Antoinette’s dress a bit shorter. Kudos to all of them. They are so creative and talented. I still think the prize money is small…

Antoinette definitely deserved to win this round! Looks like she was the only one who got the samba idea. Something samba inspired is meant to be fun, flirty and embellished.

Ok so maybe I expected too much. I must say it was ok but mehn….. Firstly, the workroom was to crowded and then who are they deceiving? 5 hours to make that? I bet most of them can’t even sew… They were a lot of wonderful designs there but i don’t buy the fact that they made that themselves under 5 hours in that room. C’est fini.

Most of them seem to have deviated from the theme..i think it is important to emphasize on the theme as it helps you gain points…Antoinette is only one who got it right.. for the rest..there are some elements here and there, and the clothes aren’t “bad” but they are not really convincing given that they were to work on a specific task..i doubt some of them did their research on samba properly…

Errrm with that dress Antoinette made, with all those feather it’s definitely not possible for them to have sewn all these within the time frame of 5hours. From what I watched, it didn’t even look like they were sewing. They just sat there forming activity.

Now I’m done with my criticism, I wish the show was longer doe. I love the idea.

Not only is the gold dress mmmm, mmmm, goood,
    but also it’s samba.
Free advice to those on this show. They give you a theme you don’t understand, first ask google. enter it in google on your computer, then click on images. you will see hundreds of images relating to that term, e.g. hundreds of samba scenes and dresses. then continue with your creative process.
    Google. Images. Beautiful. Helpful.
    you’re welcome.

in the case of the samba though, not the carnival costumes of course, but the ballroom dance stuff. i think. it’s creativity sha.
