Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema, reportedly ordered that a student who criticized him on Facebook should be detained indefinitely.
According to Premium Times, the student named Abdulmalik Sa’idu has been in jail for over 20 days now as a result of Shema’s orders.
Sa’idu is said to have posted details of an alleged fertiliser scam in Katsina state on his Facebook page.
Reports state that he received a phone call on August 28th from someone at the Katsina State government house, saying there was a message he had to receive at the governor’s residence. However, upon his arrival, he was arrested and taken to Batagarawa Police Station, where he was detained.

His father, Maiyawo Sa’idu, said that his son had not been charged for any crime, but had been accused of cloning the governor’s number in order to dupe a commissioner of N3 million.
“I think they are trying to frame him. I know my son cannot clone the governor’s number and call a commissioner to put three million into his account,” said Maiyawo.
He also revealed that before his son was detained, state government officials had warned him to stop criticizing the governor on Facebook.

This country and the people in it disgust me. People blast/critic obama (the most powerful man in the world) regularly on twitter/facebook. So pls mr governor of wherever state, WHO THE HELL DO U THINK U ARE, who died and made u god, are u above scrutiny/critic. Thief oshi. Nigerians have zero regard for basic human rights. What pains me the most is, many of you people will be shouting “nigeria is improving, come back home, leave america blah blah blah”. Pls all of u people should shut up.nigeria is a mess. This governors always forget who voted them into office. Pls who has a “PROPER” law degree on bella naija, pls tell us if its possible to sue this monkey who thinks he owns the world. Nonsense.

Shema clearly is taking his role and himself too seriously, he must have been deaf in period where fundamental human right were read. Imagine the clown, so just because someone air his feelings you show your power by jailing him, since you cannot handle criticism of check and balance, you should relinquish your power and go home and make examples of your wife , children, relative annd those on your pay roll when they criticise you. Abuse of power is a no no in democracy. Shema we are no in military rule. Oshi.(the boy was stupid to have gone to the government house)

Just when you thought the Nigerian government couldn’t get more foolish, they just keep surprising you with subsequent shenanigans. Do these buffoons in power even read the Constitution at all? Or if they can’t read (since I’ve good cause to suspect a fair number don’t have the educational background required for the job), has someone not explained the contents of the Constitution to them? Putting power in the hands of despots is bad enough but leaving it for illiterate tyrants to wield can only continue to bring our country more disgrace.

This young man needs a good lawyer to shake things up in the Katsina High Courts of justice.

Do you mean a bonafide lawyer or do you mean it in the same way that Dame P is a “qualified lecturer”? If it’s the first, I’m embarrassed for his sake and if it’s the second, I’m embarrassed for the profession’s sake.
