A BN reader sent an E-mail regarding an imminent plan to demolish the popular picturesque treeline vista in Magodo area of Lagos state.

According to the reader,  The Magodo Residents Association (MRA) in conjunction with the Lagos State Parks and Gardens (LASPARK) have perfected plans to destroy a most beautiful legacy of greenery in the area.

Here is what she stated:

“Please help save one of Magodo’s defining features. The beautiful trees that line Bashiru Shittu Avenue have become a very valuable source of more than just beauty. They provide shade, fresh air, land cover from flood, and more.”

“Please help raise awareness about this urgently. Today (18th of May 2015), they mowed down 8 of these trees and the plan is to completely destroy them (There are about 100). Many residents jog and walk along this route and many movie scenes have been shot here.”

“More trees have been earmarked for destruction, so please help raise awareness quickly.”

Everywhere else, societies are trying to save the environment and as usual, that’s the least of our considerations in Naija.

What an irony. A government that spent enormous amount of money to buy trees to claiming it beautifies the environment , prevents erosion and help against global warming now in turn cuts down trees actually meant for that purpose. O ga

Tosin, I can’t thank you enough. The agbaya owners here, who bought land at 10,000NGN per plot don’t seem to be losing much sleep as most don’t give a damn about nature. Driving to the resident’s gate (secretariat) is doubly worse now they’ve mowed down the trees. It is so hot! I can’t wait to see what they are replacing trees with. Morons!!

Save the green……I can’t shout fools. Facts! If you need wood, go to the forest reserve and establish many. Even our forest reserve are not well managed. Which way Lagosian and Nigeria govt. Or we lack leaders that can put things right. Can’t we have a place like NewYork in Nigeria. Lagos city is damn hot like Abuja, why? If not the business central, nobody deserve to be living there. No vision, no imagination, no inflence, no action.

Chill, is high time citizen groups will take over. We will be the voice and influencer.
BN, keep eating comments, am not the only victim anyway. I will soon be done with you.
