Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has reportedly ordered that welfare assistance be given to a Lagos-based woman whose husband abandoned her.

The directive was revealed in a statement signed by the governor’s chief press secretary, Habib Aruna  on Friday, Vanguard reports.

Ruth Uche, who lives in Agege, is the beneficiary of the welfare assistance. According to the report:

Ambode’s directive followed newspaper publications which narrated the ordeal of the woman, who spoke with reporters during her distress visit to the Government Secretariat, Alausa on Thursday.

The Governor touched by the woman and her children  plights  noted that as a responsible government, the well-being of the people of the State irrespective of their ethnic, religious or political affiliation is paramount to his administration and assured that his government will continue to provide good leadership that will guarantee adequate protection of lives and properties of all Lagosians.

Her husband, Mr. Benjamin Uche was alleged to have absconded from home as a result of the expected birth of another set of twins from his wife, making it the third in a row.

While acknowledging the present economic situation in the country, the Governor noted that it is not proper for anyone to abandon his family, especially young children that they willingly brought to life, admonishing that it is only when such children are properly taking care of that they can achieve their full potentials in life and become responsible citizens in the future.

Does the state or any other state have a procedure for dolibg out welfare? What about those whose stories don’t make it in the news, or whose situations are not as bad or are worse than this woman’s? Also where is the money coming from?

What was she looking at or thinking after the 2nd set of twins? She had absolutely no business getting knocked up a 2nd time, how much more a 3rd time.

If you are having challenges raising one child financially, you have no business having a 2nd child. So when God blesses you with twins the first time, close ur damn legs and call it a good day! But no, we participate in this whole “God will provide” or I’m looking for a particular sex.

We continue to bring into the world children that we can’t care for and end up creating more problems for ourselves and overall, more problems for the kids and the rest of of our family.

For all that its worth, God bless Ambode, but trust me when I say, people won’t listen or close baby making shop, that whole God will provide mentality and I didn’t know how it happened will keep happening

Female education still remains the solution to a lot of issues so that she is aware of things like family planning. And having the number of children she and her husband can cater for. She is lucky. I am a doctor and I see so many, just so many of such cases and it’s so disheartening. And these kids end up on the streets, do not go to school. And sadly the circle continues.

I just don’t get it though… What happened to family planning?! And what happens to other women whose husbands abandon them? Does the state take care of them too?! At whose expense? I have no issue with this specific case per se but I see a precedence that cannot be maintained. After all look at all those who started walking for Buhari after the first person did it. Before you know it, more of these cases will spring up and when they do, is there enough to go around?!

PLUS is the money coming from his private pocket or the State’s?! If it is his private pocket fine. But if it is the State’s, are you allowed to just make those decisions without following due process?!

Yes provide welfare by all means but it should be sustainable and there has to be a process for granting it.

    This life is amazing…

Some popping out twins and some still looking unto God!

But in this case there is a need to educate Nigerians about Family Planning….If you can’t give them the best…dont just pop them like champagne..

Is this a good move by AMbode? As long as he is using his salary to pay then yes…. if not…then I see no reason why anyone voted

If you are struggling to provide for the kids you already have, then stop. That is why we have birth control methods. i know one in my village that cannot afford 2 square meal, but has 17 children, the first son is an armed robber on the run today..

It’s easy to judge her but we don’t know if she knows what birth control is. She lives in a state of ignorance because her country has continued to fail. Instead of giving her welfare improve the educational system, provide housing, jobs, proper health care and guess what a woman like this will be empowered.

Too bad, three set of twins. Too bad from her end not from God’s. She sure knew it was difficult to care for the four why looking for a fifth which landed her in the fifth and sixth. Who say she didn’t know of family plannig. She sure did but she happened to be one of the stupid who believes any how the children will survive. See Ambode has proved her right. I hope he has also told her to remove her womb or tie her tubes. There are thousands whose condition are worst than hers. Learnt the husband is back. Their plan has worked in their favour. He ran away as planned by both of them.
