Unknown Men Throw Acid in Teenage Girls’ Faces in Afghanistan as Punishment for Going to School

It is so sad to know that in many parts of the world, some men still believe that women have no right to get an education.

CNN reports that some unknown men on a motorbike threw acid in the faces of three teenage girls as “punishment for going to school.”

The victims who are between the ages of 16 to 18, are students at one of the biggest girls’ schools in Herat city, the provincial capital.

They are currently receiving treatment at a hospital, however; two of the girls are said to be in critical condition.

According to a United Nations (UN) report, “there were at least 185 documented attacks on schools and hospitals in Afghanistan last year. The majority were attributed to armed groups opposed to girls’ education.”

Speaking on the issue, Razia Jan, founder of a girls’ school outside Kabul said, “The day we opened the school, (on) the other side of town, they threw hand grenades in a girls’ school, and 100 girls were killed. Every day, you hear that somebody’s thrown acid at a girl’s face … or they poison their water.”
