Pres. Buhari Cancels FG Delegation to Hajj to Save $1 Million

Muhammadu Buhari

In order to cut costs, President Muhammadu Buhari has announced that for this year’s hajj in Saudi Arabia, there would be no federal government delegation. With the decision, the government is expected to save about $1 million and N30 million in local expenses.

Buhari clarified that the decision will however not prevent the government from play its traditional roles of providing consular, medical and security services to Nigerian pilgrims, Vanguard reports.
According to the report:

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu who stated this on Monday quoted the president as saying that the decision was not targeted at any individual or group.

He also stated that States were at liberty to sponsor their pilgrims,  if they so desired.

“The states can deal with that (meaning appointment of own delegations) but this year at the Center, we will not be involved” Shehu said.

Ohh wait GEJ did it firs…………ohh wait No he didn’t. That awkward moment when you gather all and sundry to go for pilgrimage before elections only to come back and have Nigerians tell you “in you we’re not well pleased”.

On a serious note, the separation of church and state should be enshrined in our constitution ASAP. Pilgrimage is a personal business and our government has no business subsidizing personal trips.

Ehn ehn, please don’t join that ‘GEJ vs Buhari did it first’ boat.
Moving on, if GEJ had canceled the delegation to Hajj there would have been an uproar. However I suppose he could have started by canceling the pilgrimage to Jerusalem. In fact they should start exing a lot of people from diplomatic trips too. Not only is it unnecessary, the individuals do not even try to make themselves useful. For the 2012 or 2013 UN conference in Brazil over one hundred people went with the president and yet the Nigerian stall at the conference was still empty for the first few hours. I heard from someone that went that other countries were literally laughing at us.

You people should just relax ha, this constant Buhari this Jonathan that is annoying. When I click on these stories I just hold my breadth. It is tiring honestly. You don’t have to call Gej ha. You make it look like Gej started this pilgrimage business. Relax for God’s sake. It has gotten to a point of ridiculousness. Can this stop already? This is August haba. It is ok. We know you voted for pmb and you Gej. My candidate was the kowa party professor. But can we all move on now? Thank you.

Now they are not talking … Is this part of Jonathan’s idea stolen from the handover notes … Or pls let them start quoting the time, date and hour Jonathan said this some months/years ago …. Thought we wanted accountability now that he is telling us every step he is taking, some people are annoyed …, sorry oooo

It was a senator Bruce that tweeted about this earlier. Good to know that Buhari listened.
