End of an Era…Cyril Stober retires from NTA

Cyril Stober
After 30 years of dedicated service, news anchor Cyril Stober is retiring from the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). Anyone who grew up in Nigeria in the last 3 decades should be familiar with the face and voice of the Niger State born broadcaster.

I disliked him while I was a kid because he anchored Tonight at 9 on Saturdays. As a kid that show was so boring (compared to Newsline on Sundays) because I had to sit through it till 10pm when my my soap opera “”Maria du los Angeles”” was to commence. Cyril is one of the best presenters Nigeria has ever produced. I wish him the best in his future endeavours.

Awwwww I will surely miss him. “Good evening and welcome to NTA news I am Cyril Stober” will miss his professionalism. I remember one time that He interviewed the Late Bola Ige. After the interview when he thanked him for honouring his invitation, Bola Ige said to Him Cyril you are a good interviewer i couldnt turn down an invitation from and you speak good English with the right diction. I dont know why but i always remeber that interview. Uncle Cyril take a deserved bow because you served the nation well. Happy Retirement Sir!

‘I am Cyril Stobar’, hmm when NTA was still NTA. My favs Frank Olize, Cyril Stobar, Sene, Ronke, Ruth and even Abike Dabiri. As a very young child I was crazy about News. My eyes glued to the tv as I sit beside my dad. My mom dare not send me on an errand around this time. Just one look from my dad and datzall. Lol. All the best sir. I wish you a perfect health.

Cyril Stober is one of those people who can never make prank calls because most of us recognize that voice. Happy retirement and God’s blessings. I’m happy to see some comments about the greats, Ronke Ayuba, Ruth Benemesia-Opia, Siene Allwell-Brown, etc.

See all of them forming as if they listen to news. No be Africa magic and telemundo (sorry na baba kwete and one Indian movie dey reign then, can’t remember the name) una dey watch. Even those days self when your parents ask you to change the station to NTA once it is 9. p.m, how many dey sit down with them listen?

    • Honeycrown

      December 10, 2015 at 7:53 pm

@Tee Abeg speak for your own childhood jare. Growing up in the 80s, as long as you have a TV that works, NTA was a standard channel for everyone even if Na the only channel. I don’t understand Wetin concern forming for this mata. It’s not like you need satellite or color TV to watch NTA. Watching the news on weekdays after dinner was valued family time in most homes. The news is obviously boring to any kid but most of us got nostalgic about our childhood after reading this post because We appreciate a man like Cyril Stober for bringing back sweet memories.

    December 17, 2015 at 3:12 pm

Thank God for Cyril Stober especially on his successful retirement. While growing up especially in the 90’s, NTA and EBS were the TV stations we knew in Edo State then. Watching NTA news then, seeing my name sake on the television made me to be more popular and felt proud cos i was subsequently called Cyril Stober. Once it is 9pm everybody is seated expecting taranran tarantantantantan taratan. Cyril Stober and Eugia Abu would just appear with beautiful smile. Two of them were just my best and favorite news casters then. But now too many television stations are gradually displacing NTA via internet and satellite stations in DSTV, GOTV etc.
