Pilot error, technical failure and bad weather conditions have been suggested to be possible causes of the Flydubai Boeing 737-800 crash which occurred yesterday in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don, Russia.

According to Sky News, the Russian Investigative Committee set up to investigate the crash, which killed all 62 persons on board, including 55 passengers, among whom were 33 women and four children, along with seven crew members, is probing the three aforementioned factors and has ruled out terrorism.

“An investigation is being conducted in cooperation with the Russian authorities and we are waiting to see the results,” the Flydubai CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, stated at a news conference, while admitting that it might be too early to determine the exact cause of the crash.

He said further, “Our primary concern is for the families of the passengers and crew who were on board. Everyone at FlyDubai is in deep shock and our hearts go out to the families and friends of those involved.”

The aircraft, which was said to have been flying from Dubai, had exploded into a ball of flames on its second attempt to land when its wing hit the ground. Its first attempt had involved the plane circling in mid-air for about two hours.
