When Ghanaian royalty and Nigerian political elite merge, an unforgettable wedding emerges.

A fortnight ago Ashanti princess Nana Akyiaa & Mohammed Aminu Atiku Abubakar had their engagement in Kumasi at the Palace of HRM Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. It was a joyful day for both families and the happiness was very evident on the faces of the parents of the groom, former Vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar and his wife Titi. The white wedding took place this past weekend in Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra, Ghana.

The wedding had a surprise performance from Davido, while Nigeria and Ghana’s top vendors made the day unforgettable – the bride’s makeup was by Banke Meshida-Lawal.

Here’s a first look of the wedding via BM|Pro and social media. The wedding lighting & drapery was by Ambiance by Talata and decor photos by Bellaza GH.

and I had to correct the designer when she referred to her as “her bride from Africa”? I said, “the bride is from Ghana, Africa is a continent!”

Congratulations to the couple. May their marriage is blessed. Love her white wedding gown. Who is it by BN, do you know?

Curious to find out of they had a wedding in the church. Would be interesting if they did. I wonder if they would have had a church wedding if the bride was Nigerian…

was wondering too .. he is a muslim guy right ? so is she Christian ? will she convert afterwards ?..
BN family, how do women born from a Christian family marry muslim guys ? do the kids go with the dad’s religion ( especially in diaspora where the couple might be liberal and let kids choose their religion afterwards)

      April 25, 2016 at 9:09 pm

Would she convert to Islam? that is between her and her husband. Or the agreement that they have both made before the marragie. Most of the time they do have to give up their religion. Maybe in the beginning he might be cool with her doing her thing but at some stage something have to give. He might be happy with her carrying on with her religion or she might have to give it up. I mean look at the groom, his mother who was a Yoruba christian and her family were against his father marrying his mother as she was a Christian. The groom and his brother and sister’s all have Muslim names and am sure he also practicing Muslim . I know a Jamaican woman whom married a Muslim man from North Africa. Her kid had a Muslim name, learn Arabic and the Qur’an. This lady isn’t a practing Muslim and her husband allow her do certain things within reason but this woman don’t drink any alcohol, she doesn’t eat any meat that isn’t hala and she fast with her husband during Ramadan. I believe it all depends on the type of relationship you have with your partner and also the kind of family he comes from as well.
I believe if you are going to be going into this kind of relationship you must be prepared for it and you might have to give up a few things. I don’t believe you can have it all and the fact that is a Northern Muslim.

hmmm..I am “seeing” a yoruba muslim guy.. I am from a catholic family but since we moved out of nigeria a decade ago, i have been going to non catholic churches (my choice)
..i actually thought he was a christain initially.. mumsi has told me to leave him alone. i don’t want to do that just yet…

      well thank you 🙂

    @Adelegirl,
The wedding wasn’t held in a Church, but rather they took their vows and signed the marriage registry in the gardens of Kempinski Hotel. It was solemnised by a member of the clergy.

Wishing the couple a blessed and blissful union!

By Ashanti Princess, do you mean she is the daughter of Asantehene?

    • ThatGhanaChick

      April 25, 2016 at 4:20 pm

No Audrey, She is actually the niece of the Asantehene, so yes she is a princess as she is directly from Menshiya Palace.

You can’t meet fine and rich dudes like this. They don’t marry to “help the less privileged”

    • Stop this entitled goldigging nonsense

      April 25, 2016 at 9:56 pm

instead of looking for a rich kid that only knows his fellow rich kids, why not just face your work and make your own money. Shior. Tomorrow now they will say Nigerian women are too lazy and materialistic

Lmaoooo the poor killing themselves. Won’t let their children marry Anglican if they are Catholic and vice versa. Yoruba can’t marry Hausa. Extremists killing Christians. Their daughters married off early.

But the rich: intermarrying from all tribes, nationalities as long as they married into money or prestige. That’s the only factor. Hausas spending millions educating and empowering their daughters. Lesson: stop fighting for politicians.

Congrats to the beautiful couple. May God bless their union. I must commend Atiku for being a very liberal dad. He seems to allow his kids to marry whomever they want. I read one of his sons got married to an American sometimes ago. He seems like a very fun dad too from the pictures, messages & tweets he shares about his family on social media. Despite his busy schedule,he still makes time for his kids.Kudos to him.
