More Details Emerge from fatal Fulani Herdsmen attack in Enugu today

Armed-Fulani-herdsmenEarlier today, we reported an attack in Enugu carried out by Fulani herdsmen.
Now, more details have emerged.

Death toll
No fewer than five people in Nimbo, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State were on Monday killed by suspected herdsmen.

Police & Community Action
The spokesman of the police in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Nsukka.

Amaraizu said the Commissioner of Police, Nwodibo Ekechukwu, had already moved to the local government to ensure that normalcy returned.

The Chairman of Uzo-Uwani local government, Cornell Onwubuya, who also confirmed the incident, regretted that in spite of efforts to stop the crisis through dialogue, the suspected herdsmen had continued to attack the people.

“Yes, there is serious problem in the local government as suspected herdsmen today attacked Nimbo community.

“Information reaching us said many people were killed but I do not know the actual number now,” he said.

Eyewitness Account
An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka that the suspected herdsmen numbering up to 300 invaded the community with guns and machetes, shooting sporadically and killing people.

“As they were killing the people, they were also setting houses and vehicles ablaze. Many people have been killed; I do not have the actual number.

“The residents of Nimbo and motorists have fled the community for safety,” the witness said.

Weeping in the Streets
NAN reports that residents of Nsukka wept uncontrollably when the five bodies from Nimbo were being deposited at the Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka.

A resident, Dennis, urged the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the activities of the herdsmen before it escalated to a full blown war.

“It is unfortunate that people can be mercilessly killed without human feeling.

“You can see how these people were killed and sliced like bread; people should respect the sanctity of human life,” he said.

NAN reports that scores of the people who fled from Nimbo are now taking refuge in some primary schools in Nsukka.

Muslims are just violent & deranged – PERIOD. Everyone needs to arm themselves and defend their rights to live in peace. I’m half Fulani but I’m against their evil actions. I feel for the people of Enugu & the injustice Igbo people have to deal with constantly. The Fulani should try that shege with Yorubas & see if they’ll get away scot free… Nonsense ???

I consider them all the same. Nigerian govt shouldn’t try to delicately handle this, they better grow some balls and act accordingly before this erupt this a second civil war! Igbos are not tolerant. Nip this in the bud while the flames are low! People in the East already whispering early the year about Biafiara and then this??? Playing safe, sitting on the fence, acting neutral, being docile and cowardly, lacking backbone are the elements that helped fuel the first Civil war. Having those same elements now and expecting different will be dumb. These Northerners always setting my country back! First they made Nigeria associated with terrorism and all the humiliation that comes with associating us with ISIS, now they trying to put us on the world news for civil war!!! TF! Why would you want to humiliate your country like that??

These people are not herdsmen, this is the new BH gently invading the south. This all seem orchestrated. I think “they” are deliberately ignoring this killings and something really bad is brewing. The northern people do not seem to value human life, when their own people were blown up for the past five years they side eyed it; I am beginning to fear for that country and everyone in the south;even the international community should start bracing up. This is a keg of gunpowder, soon someone will mistakenly retaliate and then there goes – BOOOM!
The current minister of interior is the most ineffective minister in recent times(only above madam taraba who by the way is completely useless).
Everyday I lose respect for this administration. I think we should start rethinking who our next President should be, me i tire o!

Wale, you are right. We discussed this issue while l was home during Easter and the way it was analysed is mind bugling. Usually, you see only two or three herds men herding cows. Abi? Is it these few men/boys that unleash mayhem?? Naaah! Once you confront these two or three people, they phone for help and a standby death squad comes from the North at night and wipe out entire communities. The Hausa’s have vowed to take over Nigeria. This is the beginning. That a man or a whole community put their live(s) in cultivating a farm/farms and you bring your cows to graze on my crops yet, l DARE not complain? What kind of country is this? Yet, nothing condemning these acts from the Federal govt! We are indeed one.

SAUDI ARABIA IS BEHIND ALL OF THIS! They are increasingly putting pressure to on Nigeria to become an islamic country.

I don’t understand what’s going on. Is it that the criminality among certain groups of supposed herdsmen has recently spiked or is there suddenly a lot more media coverage of violence that has been going on for a long time?

    • Mama

      April 26, 2016 at 11:57 am

Probably more coverage. For years now the people of the middle belt especially plateau have been attacked incessantly by herdsmen or unknown gun men as the media likes to call it but the government and the rest of the country turned a blind eye to it because it was in the “North”, they cannot come to the south. Well, I guess now we will all talk about it and condemn it with one voice.

The answer is simple! In Nigeria, we dislike peace, order and unity.
Once one crazy group is being taken care of, another emerges-Niger Delta Militants took over from Oduas People Congress. Boko Haram took over from Militants. Now Fulani Herdsmen (armed machineries) want to take over from Boko Harm.

    April 25, 2016 at 10:15 pm

What’s going on gan?!! This doesn’t make any sense whatsoever! It’s like anybody and their mamas can just wake up in Nigeria, start killing and terrorizing and no one will do anything about it!
Any armed criminal group in Nigeria is stronger than the police and army! Yet they take advantage of regular law abiding citizens at every opportunity. Gosh! This is tiring.

Time and again , the FG has kept quiet over the brutality of these herdsmen.WHY???

  7. nnenne

    April 25, 2016 at 10:29 pm

    Question # one:
Is it legal for citizens to carry guns in Nigeria now?
Buhari and/ or those who work for him can answer that! !

  8. nene+

    April 25, 2016 at 10:30 pm

Where is Taiwo and Abbey? Are you both waiting for me to say Congratulations to Buhari on the killings of the innocent citizens by the Fulani herdsmen endlessly?

    • Mama

      April 26, 2016 at 3:32 pm

So you do not know that herdsmen have been killing since the previous administration or yours is a case of selective amnesia?

  9. Timb

    April 25, 2016 at 10:36 pm

Let’s blame it on the “herdsmen”, by so doing we can whip up tribal and ethnic sentiments while the real culprits escape and the real issues are swept under the carpet.

These attacks and stories just don’t add up.

    • nene+

      April 25, 2016 at 11:15 pm

What’s is the real issue other than that their Mayetti cattle Patron is now the president and he has said absolutely nothing? A great patron of these herdsmen who lead a delegation to former Oyo State. Governor over the killing of herdsmen is now silent as the herdsmen kill scores! what do you expect people who have heard the way he vowed to deal with militant and……and has not issued same threat to these herdsmen say or think or feel,

    • Trollrepublick

      April 25, 2016 at 11:20 pm

Egbon Timb, who are the real culprits?
If they are nomadic cattle rearers, carry weapons openly, invade with impunity, they are #fulaniherdsmen.
You can’t ‘reason’ that very glaring fact away.

    April 26, 2016 at 12:28 am

Covertnigeria to answer your question it has recently spiked and this is because their man is in power so they feel they are untouchable as a matter of fact they actually are because the police and military support them. The Governor of Enugu asked the presidency for protection as there has been this scare that the Fulani’s will attack but nothing was done .secondly they want the grazing bill to be passed and to accelerate things there is the need to keep attacking communities because some foolish northern leaders including your president think the proper thing to do is to pass the bill. Nigeria is a wreck!! May the soul of the departed rest in Peace. May God fight the battles of the innocent.

smartest person in the comments section must be chi. so on point!

the rest of u are dumb as hell. shows u only pay attention to the media. do your own research.

here, i’ll give you hints……..Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Vietnam, Libya, Syria, Oman, Afghanistan.

    dis is definitely not nigerian.

take a closer look at the arms in every “fulani herdsmen” picture. now find out what the ammunition names are. find out their prices and where they are frequently used. a poor fulani herdsman who can’t afford much could not possibly afford ammunition that powerful and more lethal than that of the nigerian police force.

now, let me take u back to the starting signs of the chaos inserted into nigeria. take a look at all those boko haram videos on youtube, the tanks are the same tanks used in the above-mentioned countries in previous battles. dead giveaway is their numbering, color and re-appearance in every current war situation.

if our president knew how to sit down and read history books about international relations and took his time to study his allies, he’d know better. he’s exposed nigeria to the world’s biggest mob after the vatican.

so now we are observing the results of yet another silly wipeout, the modern colonization.

when will the black man learn?

    • fake historian

      April 26, 2016 at 8:42 am

‘to the world’s biggest mob after the vatican’
so we should not insult fulani herdsmen, but you can insult the Catholic church ie people’s religion and link to Christ. Your statements are trying so hard to be intelligent, but it’s so obvious that you’re fuelled by so many conspiracy theories that you forget that your analysis is no more proven to be fact than the other statements made here. Shame.

There’s no need to be rude to others in order to make your point.
Fulani herdsmen been talking their cattle all over 9ja from time immemorial.. peacefully.. and it seems BHaram have exploited and infiltrated them..
The Fed Govt needs to wake up and address this issue if not things could get hot…Locals would retaliate and then what?

  21. Concerned Enugu Indigene

    April 26, 2016 at 9:49 am

Enugu State Government should equip his citizens with arms to defend themselves when these deranged fulani men attacks them. This kind of thing should not happen in Igbo land. They started from Plateau, moved to Benue, now Enugu my state. And the Fulani Baba on Top is there, travelling up and down; and not saying anything because it is his cows that they are carrying around. How will i expect him to say anything when he equipped them to defend themselves if any community should challenge hem on grazing on their farm lands.

Sad. Most annoying is that the president is yet to make a statement on national news or daily over this incident. If this is Britain or France or US, It will be the breaking news, their president will suspend every engagement today to show leadership and give a sense of belonging to the people. I am not even sure if the president has gone to Agatu after the senseless killing there by this same sect. What is the value of life in Nigeria??
