The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC has reportedly shut down the head office of the Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED)  for non compliance with laid down labour guidelines concerning conditions of service.

National Vice President, Musa Ayisa, while addressing protesters in Jos said that the shut down became necessary as the company has refused to work according to the Labour Law concerning welfare of its staff.

“If the owners of this company are not ready to comply with the NLC guidelines such as workers welfare and hazard of the staff, we shall impose sanction on them,” he said.

The workers were also protesting low voltage and indiscriminate increase of electricity billing system and poor remuneration of the staff.

The National General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, Sule Anthony John also said that the protest was to appeal to the federal government to reverse the sale of PHCN to individuals who are exploiting citizens of Nigeria.
