Borno NSCDC Raises Alarm over Increase in Burglary Cases in Maiduguri
Borno Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has expressed concern over increase in cases of burglary in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Commandant of the corps in the state, Ibrahim Abdullahi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that his men had been receiving distress calls from residents.
“We have been receiving distress calls from residents on house burgling by criminals. This menace is becoming worrisome especially with infiltration of IDPs.
Polo residents, for example, have been reporting food theft by hoodlums every Sunday when the Christian faithfuls are in the church. We have made some arrests and have also prosecuted a lot of them.
We therefore urge the public to report any suspicious criminal activities to the security agencies for appropriate action,” he said.
The commandant said one of the recent cases involved four persons who allegedly burgled residential houses in the state capital.
He said that the suspects (names withheld) were arrested on Tuesday in Bulunkutu, Bolori and old Maiduguri areas in the state capital.
“All the suspects have admitted to committing the crime and investigations are continuing. We have made some other arrests and have also prosecuted a lot of them,” he said.
