Police Arraign 13 Suspected MASSOB Members in Enugu

The Police on Tuesday arraigned 13 suspected members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) in an Enugu North Magistrates’ Court.

The defendants were arrested on Monday at Edinburgh Road, Ogui New Layout, Enugu, over alleged unlawful assembly to commemorate fallen heroes of Biafra.

The prosecution counsel, Damian Njoku said the suspects allegedly belonged to unlawful society called MASSOB as well as took part in an illegal assembly.

Njoku said that they committed an offence punishable under Sections 495(a) and 106 of the Criminal Code cap 30 Vol.11 Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.

The suspects, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The Magistrate, Nnenna Alukwu, granted them bail in the sum N100,000 each, with a surety each in like sum.

She adjourned the matter till June 26th for hearing.
