International fast food outlet, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has closed its franchise in Botswana rendering over 400 employees jobless.

This is contained in a statement  issued on Friday by VPB Propco, the franchise of KFC in Botswana.

“Such a step is always for us, a final resort, and during the course of the last 12 months, we worked tirelessly to seek an alternative. After much deliberation, however, it is clear that it is no longer feasible to continue operations. KFC food chain will close all its 12 branches across the country, after 20 years operating in Botswana,” it said.

KFC Botswana said it intended to engage all stakeholders, adhere to all regulatory and governance guidelines, and work with all employees, as “it wraps up”.

“This is by all means a truly difficult business decision to make, but one that needed to be taken,” it said.

KFC, owned by Louisville, Kentucky-based Yum! Brands Inc, U.S., has a presence in 14 sub-Saharan African countries, including 825 outlets in South Africa, according to its website.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in May 1976 to gather and distribute news on Nigeria and cover events of interest to Nigeria at the international level for the benefit of the Nigerian Media and the Public.

I was wondering, is it just me that doesn’t find KFC rice in Lagos outlet delicious?, especially the fried rice.

I like the Chicken and am sure that is what is still endearing me to them.

Now, am not a spoilsport here, their packaging, customer reception and general outlook is great!

Nigeria is next. Their stores are always empty and their whole menu is found in every other fast food shop, so no advantage over another. Also their food has an artificial taste

Its affected by the general commodities downturn, probably. Same thing Nigeria, Angola, Russia e.t.c are going through.
