#SaveLivesAtTheBeach: Friends of 2 Ladies Drowned at Elegushi Call for Stronger Safety Measures in Beaches
Friends of 2 Covenant University graduates are calling on authorities to make beaches safe so as to prevent unnecessary deaths.
Adesola Ogunmefun and Funmi Odusina according to reports were carried by a heavy tide at Elegushi beach where they were attending a friend’s birthday party.
An instagram user, @Ginikaokolo shared:
Some of us have been awake and have cried our lives out???. I shut the day because of the death of these two, OH LIFE WHAT A WASTE!!!! Our tears have turned to anger because their lives were carelessly taken away by ELEGUSHI HEAVY TIDE?? Is there not a rescue team??? Don’t people pay to enter the beach?.
Funmi (24) & Shola (27) had bright futures. Graduates in BS.c International Relations from Covenant University (2007-2011) and on the verge of completing their Masters from Unilag in MS.c International Law and Diplomacy.
This is so sad but we must bring awareness because their lives are not worthless to carelessly die like this. If you went to #CovenantUniversity#BellsSecondarySchool#HomeScienceSecondarySchool#UniversityofLagos and you know their family, loved ones and you have loved ones who have been victims, you need to join these campaign we need WAVE ALARM SYSTEM, EMERGENCY MEDICAL UNIT, PATROL UNIT, GOOD RESCUE TEAM in all our Nigerian beaches.
@phu_mz @mizzsola were wonderful young girls who were taken away carelessly. R.I.P my loves you will always remain in the sands of time ???#FallenBeacons #SaveLivesAtTheBeach#425LostAtShoreYearly#JusticeforSholaandFunmi

If we pay to gain entrance to beaches why can’t they hire and train coast guards? Enough of the negligence please #savelivesatthebeach
