Tunde Suicide5Residents of Aboru in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State, were on Sunday thrown into pandemonium, as they discovered the body of a commercial motorcyclist dangling on a rope in an uncompleted building.

Sources told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the remains of the 28-year-old motorcyclist, simply identified as Tunde, were discovered by some labourers working in a nearby building.

The labourers were said to be working in an uncompleted building at Ever Green Estate, Aboru, Iyana-Ipaja.

NAN gathered that the labourers immediately raised an alarm, which attracted residents of the community, who promptly reported the incident at Aboru Police Post.

A resident of the community who spoke to NAN on condition of anonymity, said police officers from the area visited the scene and thereafter informed their superiors at the Ile-Epo Police Station.

According to the source, the officers later took the body away and took statements from some of the community leaders.

The source said Tunde had tied a rope to the roof of the decked building, climbed on four blocks and kicked away one of them after he put the rope round his neck.

NAN further gathered that the deceased recently got married, but nobody knew his wife as he was no longer living in the area.

“He was formerly living at No. 17, Tokyo Street, Aboru but he is not living there again. We don’t know his present address and we have not been able to locate his friends or relatives. The deceased did not leave behind any suicide note. Members of the community are still in shock over the incident,” the source told NAN.

A police office at the Aboru police post, who confirmed the incident to NAN, however, said he was not authorised to speak on it.

He, however, said that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba.

Contacted, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmos, also confirmed the incident, stressing that police had begun investigation into the death.

“The Lagos State Police Command is trying to unravel the cause of death and the perpetrators of the dastardly act committed against one Tunde, surname yet unknown.

The report of the incident received in the early hours of Sunday September 4, stated that the victim might have been strangled to death and hanged by unknown assailant(s).

The incident happened at an uncompleted building on Rasaki Sodande, Street, Aboru. The detectives visited the scene of crime to take vital clues that will help the command in the course of investigation.

His body was recovered and deposited in a public morgue for autopsy, while the case is under discreet investigation,” Badmos said.
