Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri, is the traditional head of the Itsekiri people, a people located in the oil rich Niger Delta region of Warri. The Itsekiris are famed for their traditional fishing skills, melodious songs, gracefully fluid traditional dances and colorful masquerades and regattas.

It can be recalled that Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri, ascended the throne of his father on 12th December 2015, as such it was not out of place for Eagle Aromatic Schnapps, a Brand in the stable of Intercontinental Distillers Limited which is at the fore front of promoting tradition, to pay the monarch a visit ahead of the anniversary of his coronation.

The visiting delegation was headed by the Managing Director of Intercontinental Distillers Limited, Chief Engr. Patrick Anegbe who was accompanied by the Chairman Board of Directors, Dr Ishmael Igbani and Barrister Esijolomi Rewane, a Director.

At the visit, the rich culture of the Itsekiri people came on display. The chiefs adorned their traditional outfit with the men wearing a long sleeved shirt called a Kemeje over George wrappers while the women wore a blouse and tied George wrappers around their waist. The women’s outfit will not be complete without mentioning the colourful head gears known as Ulesun (scarf) and coral beads used to accessorize.

The palace which can only be described as splendorous is quite modern; this pays testament to the high level of affluence and literacy (recall that the Itsekiri people produced one of the earliest university graduates, Olu Atuwatse I, Dom Domingo, a 17th century graduate of Coimbra University, Portugal.

The Ogiame Ikenwoli while receiving the team appreciated them and congratulated them on keeping the spirit of company alive and thriving despite the challenges facing the country. He prayed for the progress of the company.

Throughout the visit, it was evident that Warri’s warm culture of hospitality in receiving Guests still remains strong.
