The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) may increase the cost of acquiring Nigerian International Passport, a statement made by Muhammad Babandede, Comptroller-General of the NIS suggests.

Babandede said that the review is necessary as the cost of materials for production of the booklets has increased.

Babandede was speaking at the flagging off ceremony for the capacity building programme on Information Communication Technology, ICT, for Immigration officers, organized in conjunction with Huawei Technologies Company, in Abuja.

“It is not easy for us to pay for booklets because of the cost. You will agree with me that air tickets have doubled in this country. You are aware that a lot of things have changed, but the passport fees have not changed,” Babandede said.

The Comptroller General Babandede is very stupid…that parastal is to be set on corruption charges..they have always exhorted money from the citizens of Nigerians tell me that one person that has actually done his or her passport @ d official rate so why decieve urself that u want to increase when all this while no one ever pays @ d official rate u it has always been inflated by this immigration officers. SO CG babandede find someelse to say ur change hasn’t yet started… When the fire of God burn all of u frm d top @ that parastal (IMMIGRATION) that change will come by force…including my own uncle there am not sparing no one.. It will deal with u all.. Then we know it time to increase but now it has always been inflated.

Someone really needs to ask this guys some questions.
    1. Specifically what in the cost of production has changed?
    2. What alternatives, if any, did you guys look into?
    3. You said air tickets have doubled. What does that have to do with the cost of production of the booklets? What economic reasoning links the production cost of the booklets with airline tickets?
    4. Your reasoning that a lot of things change yet the passport fees haven’t changed is not economical. So basically there is no economical decision to support this. Do you belive that because other prices go up, that implies an increase in profit? And as such passport fees should go up to benefit from that supposed profit? Even when the cost of living is soaring?

    Nigerian journalists, I dash una.

If they would print the cost of passports and the official passport fee, that would be a step in the direction of transparency. To the best of my knowledge, they charge in excess of anything you can call official, though what does official mean anyway?, they basically charge whatever they can get away with. If I lie, post the passport fees/costs here.

There is no justification for this price increase. The price of the Nigerian passport when compared with the prices of other international passports arround the world, is more expensive. What is wrong with some people in this Country? Mr Babandede. As the comptroller of the Nigerian immigration. Nigeria immigration service needs to renegotiate the Passport printing contract with whomever your parastatal has awarded it to period. You need to stop your Voodo economic reasons for your purpoted passport price increase. Last week it was the Silly internal revenue collector Fowler now it’s your turn. When will all this power show ever stop in this Country? I am very sure, President Buhari didn’t ask you to do any of this nonesence. Because of the way Nigeria is structured, All you idiots just want to show the president how relevant you are. This is not the job you are hired to do stupid. A word is enough for the wise. I ‘ m just saying.

I have never ranted but he just ticked a nerve and please permit me.
Seriously, the way some of these officials open their mouth to a press conference bemuse me. They talk like educated illiterates, increase the price of making a passport??? the passport some of us paid for months ago, pay postal order ( the only country that does that) wait in line in the freezing cold, enter the building that has no heating, staff having no regard and what is meant to be a 2 week turn around is now a 4 month backlog, and to add to it trying to coerce us into paying for a 64 page booklet that will expire in 5 years. Absolute joke, its like they wake up and decide ‘hmm i haven’t been in the news or papers in a while let me come up with something, anything even if it doesn’t make sense” . You would agree that the cost of most things have gone up, air line tickets? like is he for real? we are a heavily importing based country so obviously with all that is happening, what happened to the promotion of made in Nigeria, and please don’t tell me that passport is made abroad because that will be another joke of the year. And to Mr Fowler, that opened his dirty, stinking mouth to say you might have to show your tax returns before you can get a passport, a constitutional right of every citizen, even people in jail have a right to one, that is your identity, so what about housewives? what about the woman who lives in the village and is not educated to know about tax but sells little things in front of her house and has been invited to come visit her child abroad? why do these idiots, open their mouth and insult us like we are not learned, we don’t see how it works in other countries? And i bet if you look at their resume at one point they studied abroad which you would think will have increased their intellectual capacity but alas not. Mr Fowler & co get an advisor, test it out with a few before you open your gob to talk trash, you may have done a good job at Lagos state (that being debatable) but don’t tarnish that with rubbish.

Bella my last rant is for you, your composition of grammar and vocabulary is getting worse by the day, you need to hold your staff to high standards, sentences miss letters, tittles sound silly ( woman gives birth to rare form of conjoined twins in Lagos, that is such a discriminatory statement in a country that is partially hostile to occurrences like this. Siamese twins they are called, Get a secret reader without your staff knowing, to read through the daily articles and keep you updated, or better yet still Uche i am sure you randomly visit, unfortunately you are a text based blog as opposed to just pictures so you cannot get away with poor quality grammar. If it was a one off, then that is understandable but it is becoming an almost everyday occurrence.
Right, thanks for this platform to rant and giving me an audience,

    Have a good day

Is this man for REAL?? You all are one of the most corrupt institutions in the country and you have the audacity to say you want to increase the price of getting a passport? What is the official rate? How long should a person wait after paying the official rate? How do you check those imbeciles in immigration uniforms at the gates who make you pay so much? A friend of mine paid close to 40k to get his passport which took 2weeks!!! GTFOH Mr Comptroller General, you stink of corruption
