    Hello BN,
My business idea is to become essential oils distributor in Awka , Anambra State where i reside. I want to turn my hair problem to a money making avenue. For example, tea tree oil helped in solving the problem of my itchy scalp permanently . So i want to use my sales to create availability of essentials for people who reside in Awka who always depend on travelling to lagos or other big cities to get their supplies. Thanks

I am currently building an Internet based social networking community platform that falicitate connection and easier access between individual, group or corporate entities looking for properties (apartments, hostels, event centers, shops, stores, etc) to rent or buy to the people who can provide them with the properties with zero stress involved. Native Africans are facing a whole lot of challenges in this sector and I believe with what I’m walking on I could make things positively different.

As a young passionate entrepreneur and a practicing graduate of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, I have the ambition of contributing my own quota of service in the technological development and advancement in Nigeria with the vision of making Nigeria in the nearest future one of the world leading countries in the Field of Electronic Technology alongside China and Japan.
I wish to achieve and actualize this goal of mine by venturing into Design and Construction of some of our daily needed electronic products like: Standard LED digital display boards (used in Hotels, Companies, Supermarket, Shops, Fast food eateries to display information) ; Standard Inverter system ; Low Cost Solar Installation systems ; Vehicle Tracking Devices (used against car theft); Phone and Laptop chargers; Automation and Control devices, and many more.
This dream if actualized will promote Made in Nigeria electronic goods, increases job opportunities and employment because workers will be employed. I will also be conducting Practical and Technical training to practically and technically empower others thereby making them self-employed.
Though I have in my own little and small scale way started designing, constructing, marketing and selling some of the products like LED Digital display and Inverters to hotels, companies and supermarkets in which the interest and demand is very high, with the lots of technological issues facing Nigeria, with the recession crumbling our economy because of excessive importation, with the unemployment facing the youths and with the high demand for power, increase in the number of hotels, supermarkets who need to upgrade with the modern technology and meet standard, this my business plan has the potential of doing exploit and generating a lot of revenue and employment.

    Hi BN,

Let me start by thanking you for providing this wonderful platform for igniting local Entrepreneurs.

I am a Rotating Equipment Engineer (my 9-5) and a budding Business Enterpreneur.

My business idea is establishing a Nigerian Baby foods/Baby formula/Baby smoothie brand.

I stumbled on the idea after the birth of my child. During his weaning, my wife and I began experimenting with various local/foreign Nigerian foods, which he took on with ease. Fruits, Veg, local staple foods, you name it. He loves them all.

Alas, the “light bulb moment” was upon us. We suddenly realized that there are little or no local baby food products in the market. Local competition is virtually non-existent.

Only few African brands are available in the local market.

According to AC Nielsen, the Global Baby foods/formula industry is valued at $35billion (Q4 2016 figures). Most of this revenue is dominated by foreign Baby foods’ brands e.g. GERBER, BEECHNUT, COW & GATE etc), with little or no market share controlled by local brands in Nigeria (less than 0.005% market share).

There is a huge opportunity to gain market share in Nigeria & Sub-Saharan Africa by introducing 100% organic/100% African baby food products in Nigeria.

Nigeria is richly blessed with Manpower and Agro-produce: Poultry products (milk, eggs, meat etc), Food crops, Fruits & Vegetables, Roots & Tubers, Legumes, Herbs & Spices, Cash crops etc. The Agriculture sector has shown significant growth in the last 5-10years as a result of increased direct investment from Development banks and the diversification of the economy due to the steady decline in Crude oil prices in the last few years.

With a population well-over 180million people, a yearly population growth rate of 2-3%, 5.5% yearly birth rate, an emerging middle class, a strong working class population (18-65years) and average family size of 4.5 people per household, the opportunity to introduce a high-quality, 100% African baby foods’ brand cannot be overlooked.

There is also huge employment opportunities for young people at all levels of the product value chain (Agro-processing, Procurement of raw materials, Machine operations, Packaging, Logistics etc).

I have started initial product development, Branding and Business registration procedures. Business plan is currently in the draft phase. I am confident that business revenues could top $1billion in 10-15 years (based on current financial projections).

I strongly believe that the STARTA Side Hustle BootCamp would provide a desired learning platform to garner requisite skills needed to start up this business idea effectively.

This is definitely a new venture for me, but I am passionate about the opportunity to create value and contribute to the Foods & Beverages sector in Nigeria in this special category (Baby foods).

No better way to go than to learn from those who have been down the same road, they say.

Cheers, I look forward to your positive feedback.

Hi Bellanaija,My Businness name is Ulo Hadassah,it is an Agri-b usinness specifically into food processing of agricultural produce. My mission is to provide high Quality, healthier and affordable good for Nigerians and the world at Large.
Food is a primary need of every living person On the world.Nigeria is a country blessed with good weather conditions that supports the growth of fruits, vegatbles and other stable food, yet we have shortage of food because most of these food are highly perishable, there has also been a huge Rural-Urban migration by people.
Let’s look at the pepper -the Chilli and the Popular Ose Nsukka,70%of what is consumed here in Nigeria are imports from Thailand and Cameroun respectively.Maize which grows literally in every part of country,The demand for maize in Nigeria is currently at 16million tons, yet supply is currently at 10million.With a pipulation of about 170million people in Nigera,we can see that the opportunity is massive and the sector is a billion dollar sector yet to be fully tapped.I can go on to mention more but will just stop here.
One of The major reason for shortage in supply is because these crops gets spoiled due to the fact that it is not proccessed and stored properly.
Processing, packaging of agricultural product as mentioned above is huge and is a billion dollar Businness. My vision is to tap into this sector, process and package and sell here in Nigeria and also export around the world and drive to ensure I maintain a high quality product .This will also help create more jobs there by reducing the level of unemployment we have in Nigeria.

    Hello Bella Naija and Starta,
Thank you for this amazing opportunity.
Winning a spot at the Starta side hustle bootcamp would be a great opportunity to scale up my fashion label business and gain new insights into building a succesful and sustainable business model.
I’m dressmaker and a young entrepreneur who is passionate about creating stylish and elegant dresses for women.
My business idea is to own an online womenswear store that offers chic and stylish Ready To Wear clothing to young professional women between ages 25 to 35 who desire edgy and well fitting clothes that are affordable and accessible.. February 13, 2017 at 6:13 am

Hi Bella 9ja! I’m really excited about this opportunity. I really do have a feeling I’m in this to win it. My business plan involves creating an online store. You might wonder what’s so special about it there are many online stores in Nigeria. Now what if you know an online store where only made in Nigeria goods are sold? I have a feeling I got your attention there.
My idea is to be the first to launch an online store that showcases only made in Nigeria items. It’s going to pay particular interest to produces of small businesses. I recently discovered a lot of people feel that buying things with foreign names make our fellow Nigerians more confident than buying home made products some people don’t even know Nigerian brands and often mistake some foreign brands for Nigerian brands because of thepublicity here in Nigeria. . I see my business on the long run being the eBay or Amazon of Nigeria. (do I still need to explain your I know it’s a billion dollar idea?)
My aim of doing this is to ensure that we are able to buy Nigerian made everything to support the growth of the naira, to motivate Nigerians that think there’s no business to be done to start something and not be intimidated by other big and large scale brand names, to motivate business owners and other entrepreneurs to “step their game up” and produce items of good quality because they are not just representing their brand but the whole of Nigeria and to aid in more publicity and easy access to Nigerian brands a db to expose our goods more to the foreign eye.
Over time it’s going to cut across to all categories like beauty and skin care, fashion, books, art even, anything Nigerian registered In Nigeria, made in Nigeria. It’s going to be the first place you think of when you want to get 100% naija. I intend to build my store on quality and not quantity and I know I’m going to build an impressive brand over time because I can reach a lot of people a lot faster as there’s more audience with the Internet. We aren’t living in the stone age anymore that’s y I believe as we are evolving, the country should too. I believe that it’s a good thing to and for our country which explains why I’m soooooo enthusiastic about learning more marketing strategies and business and funding ideas.
I’d really love to be of food use and active service to my country. I the wonderful team at BellaNaija would give me the opportunity to. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
    Love, Ib Dienye.
