The Chinese Government has placed a ban on children in the country attending church services.

The move is reportedly a bid to crack down on religion in the country, particularly Islam and Christianity.

According to Daily Mail, over one hundred churches in Wenzhou, China’s Zhejiang province were served a notice saying minors will not be allowed to enter churches.

They will also be banned from participating in religious activities and attending religious sermons. Churches are also not allowed to organise a youth summer camp.

William Nee, a researcher for Amnesty International who spoke to Daily Mail said:

At this point, its unclear how widespread the bans on children attending church services are in China, but these alarming reports seem to be coming in from fairly diverse areas throughout the country.

China is in the midst of a religious revival and the current government seems concerned that religion could be a means through which foreign values may ‘penetrate’ into China and ultimately affect political stability.

In an important speech on religion last year, Xi Jinping said that young people must study science, believe in science and develop a ‘correct’ worldview and set of values.

It is suspected that the ban is to ensure the development of a generation whose idea of the truth and general worldview would be whatever is taught by the Chinese government through the public education system.

This is the problem with communist governments
They prevent and limit freedom of religion
then you guys will be praising countries like China
No wonder they are such corrupt people, always doing shady business and exporting sub standard goods

I don’t think belle i s being sarcastic. China is leaping in economic etc development, but mostly without moral or ethical contents. That critical factor is why Europe and possibly America will remain better business partners for the long haul.

Try as the devil might….you can’t stop the children of God. The Spirit of God lives INSIDE us. If you say our children will not go to church…guess what..MINISTRY BEGINS AT HOME.. Our God is not a statue placed in a location, one does not have to travel to encounter Him.

A lot of evil is done in the name of religion. Maybe you didn’t read the entire article before commenting. All these religious overzealousness has caused plenty wahala, there is no more brother and sister but church and church or church and mosque, common sense has flown away, it is now the Bible says this, the Koran says that. Truth be told Christianity and Islam are foreign influences and have over the years turned into extremist groups.

This can acually be a good thing, given that overzalous religoiusty stifles creativity and development, most especially at early stage of child development comparately in Africa that kids generally lack proper skill in their formative years due to mainly religous indoctrination and also lack of adequate social and economic power for their potentials to be tapped.

The way it stifled development for the pilgrims, who laid the foundation for the America everyone admires today? Please be sure you are making sense when leaving comments.

Molarah, actually “overzealous religiosity ” does stifle creativity. That the pilgrims migrated to America and set up farms does not mean they were a creative bunch. They did not as you say lay the foundation of America.
There are so many things to unpack in your smart-ass comment. I will just say you did exactly what you accused tee of doing.

You mean Chinese parents will leave their children behind as they worship in Churches …?
    Well communism and it disadvantages.
Christianity and other religions don’t belong in same basket it will rather instil godliness to stop some of the numerous sharp practises and teribble corruption found in China. Not comparing Naija to China as China claims civilised when indeed you can’t simply drink their water without fear of counterfeit.
Fake medicine, fake good, fake rice, fake fire fighting equipment, fake Phones, fake humans, fake LV, fake Gucci, fake Hermes …..abeg allow children hear gospel of Jesus .

I can see where your priority lies; shoe and bags! fake this fake that. There will always be copy of anything good it the nature of humane to emulate or borrow ideas; when that crosses the line to stealing then the laws takes care of any infrigment of inteletual propety by prosecution and enforcement. Laws are what guides the affiars of a nation; if the law is upheld without fear or favour you will see big leaps in that area. Nothing to do with this issue here!
Its about the children and the bigger picture. It is well founded that environment you live in shape your life and choices. We are breeding religiuos fanatics with mana from heaven mindset, with lawlessness tendencies which is being pass down. There are religoius houses in every nook and cranny, instead of industires. People have to travel abroad for minor ailments.
I cant even begin to enumerate the impact. It is the younger generation of our nations that will bear the brunt of the end result, and its happenig now already. Given the recent assessment of Human Poverty Index of the UN; most countries with lowest scores are those that are ‘religious’ with few exceptions like UAE and Saudi Arabia, mainly due to oil wealth which is managed well. It certainly correlate to the incidence of human and drug trafficking; and quest of the younger genrations seeking a better future by embarking on perilious journey to cross the ocaens into the west, since their childhood has mostly being marred with all sorts of bad experience and depravation. It is only when we enable environment for nuturing the children and igniting their inate abilities at young age; we can then be assured to a high degree they will start life in good footing. This will impact the nation in this globalised economic enviroment.
