Speaking in an interview with Notjustok TV, Cobhams said he doesn’t think it’s anybody’s fault that things are like that.

Nigerians want to de-stress, he said, they want to have a good time and dance, and producers have found a way to concoct amazing beats that allow this.

Hopefully the summary is right. But that is just great from Cobhams. There are probably other factors such as poor monetization of music except for concerts and party centers. Many people in Nigeria like good beats and want to be visually expressive. Personally, my style is eclectic but I realised that this young people are on to something when older people dump classics and want to listen to this new music. A lot of it is about the rhythm and people who want to be more expressive and suggestive than the opposite.
