#TIFF18: Cast of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s “Farming” pose for Portraits

Actors Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Damson Idris and Kate Beckinsale and filmmaker Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje from the film ‘Farming’ posed for a portrait during the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival at Intercontinental Hotel in Toronto, Canada.

The film, also starring Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji, premiered a few days ago on the 8th of September.

The film is based on Adewale’s autobiographical story, “Farming.” The script was developed at the Sundance Film Institute and chronicles his own coming-of-age story growing up fostered by a white working-class family in the U.K.

Check out the portraits below.

You really need to chill. You can state your point without trying to belittle Genevieve. At the end of the day she still features in the movie and that does not change, portrait picture or not.

My point was made. You consider it belittling. Knock yourself out. 🙂 F.A.C.T. trumps opinion. Her name is not on the poster because the market where she is relevant is Nigeria and that is not a priority for the film sales. F.A.C.T. Bite me or recognise that our local industry has a lot of work to do to breakthrough.

Na wa o. Madam, it hasn’t gotten to “biting” stage. The vex na serious vex. So much bile. Good luck to you. I couldn’t care less.

It’s the natural order of things. Even British stars take a hit when they move to Hollywood… what am I saying sef? Try established actors or musicians that move from say New York or Atlanta to LA… even they struggle. Now tell me what else is new? Please shift all the way to the left… like waaaaaay left till you find some common sense.

To be where? I see you go the full troll route when confronted with logic. How is this a response to my comment? Biko what’s funny? You better watch out and don’t tear cloth inside market at this rate.
Anyways, Genny is not some newcomer or instagram actor that anyone can diminish her career with silly online comments. She has been successful for over two decades… no amount of revisionist history and hateroade filled campaigns can change that. If she does two kobo film and they give Alaba marketers, she’ll sell out, if she does Iroko-style film and gives Nigerian cinemas, she’ll break the box office… now she’s sold to Netflix… she’s chomping at the bit one level at a time and that’s what we all appreciate.

    This @Yes Maam…. You are not well….
So, you expect Genevieve to leave her busy schedule at Tiff and be queueing up to be doing “this kind of photo shoot”…??
She is at Tiff and she couldn’t even attend the premiere of the movie” FARMING ” itself, it is now to be doing photo shoot.
Have you seen her do a photo shoot for her highly acclaimed ” Lionheart ” yet ?
How will being in this photoshoot help her career or help her clinch another deal bigger than the one she has now with Netflix…?
Leave our National Treasure alone biko she would be definitely busy with alot on her sleeves… She is in a Hollywood “FARMING” and gave a life time performance in it (You can ask those that have seen it), So your hate can’t take that away…!

Basketmouth, AY, watch out there is a new stand up comedian in town called ‘Awesome.’ Genevieve is busier in the world of acting than Damson Idris, Kate Beckinsdale or Gugu Mbatha Raw. I bet she was too busy when they were doing the poster as well to spell her name for them. Or no, she is too big for the poster.

Not had a laugh this good in a very very long time.

p.s. Farming is not Hollywood. It is an independent British film.

Since you know so much, how big is the Netflix deal?

National Treasure ko? Purliz, When did we have this election?

@Yes Maam… Agreed. Genevieve is an Extra in the movie. You can go and celebrate that in your street while I run back to my street to celebrate the same Genevieve for putting Nigeria on the global map for the good reasons with her appearance on CNN yesterday.

She obviously has a personal vendetta against Genevieve, gallons of haterade in excess supply. Let her douse herself in it. That should make her feel good for the rest of the day. Oshisco.

@yes maam I laff at you for real . Did it ever occur to you why she didn’t attend farming premiere. So u expect her to leave the main reason why she is at tiff a concentrate on anot man’s job. Even lionheart made so much noise than farming the movie. Stop hating abegg, u dnt av it point. Lionheart alone is the reason why she is getting so much attention at tiff coupled with the fact that it is her directorial debut. It is nt even her first appearance at tiff. Her first appearance at tiff was in 2013 when she featured in half of the yellow sun. According to you she is a local boss, you forget to add that her magic is working. Genevieve put nollywood on the world map back then and now she has done it again. Learn to b truthful in your judgement. She has do well for herself and nollywood with lionheart. Farming the movie alone wouldn’t have given her so much fame and she wouldn’t h had the opportunity to be noised by women and Hollywood, cnn,,,, strong black lead(twitter handle for top black Hollywood stars), the, a many more citations. One black lady from Nigeria, one strong production (lionheart), one festival (tiff) and that was all she needed. Once again @yes maam you don’t make sense talking less of Genevieve.

      September 13, 2018 at 1:06 am

The movie 76 did all these at tiff 16 and even got reviews but where is it? Calm down. Wait and see what happens AFTER tiff. Women and hollywood profiles any woman with a film at a major film festival. Even you can send out a press release with Netflix inside and all those trades will publish. Its Netflix that got those websites to publish the artifle, they could care less about Genny. The end crowns the begining so calm down.

    • yes maam

      September 13, 2018 at 7:51 am

Nigerian social media oversharing a press release that the film was acquired by Netflix does not equal credible noise. It means Nigerian social media overshared a press release because hype is what we do. The actors doing press for Farming are the actors whose names are on the poster. The lead actors in the movie. But you know that already.

    September 12, 2018 at 7:55 pm

SINACH, God Bless, you said it all…
It’s not like this “Yes Maam” doesn’t know the truth she is probably one of us here in Naija who is green with envy that the fame and fortune GENNY is enjoying at the moment didn’t come to them or their friend or who ever they are fans to.
The TRUTH still remains that… If GENNY played the lead actor in FARMING or her name was even the only name on that poster… Nobody will be talking about her and she wouldn’t be making headline like she is making at the moment.
So, “Yes Maam” when you are done Hating just embrace the fact that GENNY is our National Treasure…!

    • yes maam

      September 13, 2018 at 7:54 am

Not true. If Genevieve was the lead in Farming, she will be the one doing the press rounds. Keep calling fact hating…..There is a reason why she has not made a film since Road To Yesterday or why she is only cast when she produces or there is a supporting role in films abroad. 🙂

    September 13, 2018 at 12:19 am

I think it is Nollywood that put Genevieve on the Map. Nollywood made her and nollywood has always been on the map. This is not the first time Genny is appearing on CNN so I don’t understand how her appearing on CNN is an achievement.
Kunle, Obi Emelonye Omotola etc have all appeared on CNN.
So Genevieves PR sent out a press release carried by major Hollywood trades, because of Netflix. It will NOT change anything for Nollywood. Nollywood films will continue to go on Netflix as usual. Funa is the reason Genny movie went on Netlfix for 250k only. She chose netflix for hype. If you notice, none of the Netflix executives have said anything. The press have not reviewed it either. The one person who tweeted about it said it was not a good film. This doesn’t mean anything for Nollywood. Netflix is not the gold. If the movie had revieved a theatrical release in america, now we’re talking. You people need to calm down.

You guys should give the lady some breathing space na. Habaaaaa. What’s the big deal with being a supporting cast? Even Meryl Streep plays supporting and even gives cameos countless times. It’s only in nollywood that so called A Listers doesn’t play supporting to B list actors.

Let’s wait till we see the movies. Genevieve has done well for herself just like others. She has tried. I never knew she would still be relevant till this day.

    • yes maam

      September 13, 2018 at 11:30 am

Only folks who see her supporting role as negative are the hecklers. My point was and still is, we make a lot of noise about Nollywood and we have our own star system but in international films, we are still not seen as box office draws. They will have her all over the press if that film is released in Nigeria same way they changed the poster for Halo Of A Yellow Sun for Nigeria. Question is, when and what can we do to ensure that Nollywood becomes a force not just locally. Or we can take it personal and attack those of us on ground who are putting in the graft and not seeing the growth……
