The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has reduced the jail term of former Taraba governor Jolly Nyame from 14 years to 12 years.

Nyame, a reverend, had been found guilty of 27 of the 41 counts of fraud which he was charged with by the EFCC.

The Abuja High Court had in May, sentenced him to 14 years in jail for misappropriating N1.64 billion from the state’s treasury in 2007, with no option of fine.

According to Channels, the Appeal Court said that the lower court erred for not imposing fine as such in counts 1, 2 and 6 that have to do with criminal breach of trust, hence slamming a N495m fine on the former governor.

The appeal court had on Friday, also reduced Joshua Dariye, a former governor of Plateau state’s 14-year sentence to 10.
