President Muhammadu Buhari‘s photographer Bayo Omoboriowo shared the image below of Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode‘s son prostrating before Buhari during his one day working visit to the state.

Respect for elders and authority is an integral part of the Yoruba culture, as well as most Nigerian cultures, and prostrating to greet (for boys) is one way to show that.

It’s such a beautiful photo. Check it out!

Why is this news? I am more interested in the conversation between his dad and the President and what that means for Nigerians and/ or Lagos residents.

Let him not prostrate o, he go chop cane. Apart from Yoruba culture, most people display great respect for those who are gracious to your parents I remember the day my aunty insulted her daughter seriously right in my presence and my uncle’s who is her brother because she did not greet him. Meanwhile he helps her mum financially a lot. Have you not seen a mother try to kneel for her potential son in law because of kudi, owo, ego. Although this should not be news but Buhari is no ordinary visitor to them.
