The Conversation Café launches its Sanitary Bank Initiative at the Screening of “Her”, a 30-minute Film focused on the Issue of Period Poverty

On August 1st, 2019, The Conversation Café launched a sanitary bank initiative and also exclusively screened for the first time, “Her”, a 30-minute film focused on the issue of ‘period poverty’ and other real-life societal stories and issues young girls and women face in economically disadvantaged/poor communities in Africa.

The Premiere held at the Alliance française de Lagos/The Mike Adenuga Centre. It was attended by vital personalities, some of them are: Oluseyi Soremekun from United Nations Information Center, Hansatu Adegbite, Executive Director at WIMBIZ and Organizations such as WARRIF, It’s never your fault and many others.

‘HER’ was produced under the platform of The Conversation Cafe, Nigeria, which exists to provide safe spaces for millennial to hold conversations that engender community development and help develop in-depth topics into active solutions that birth life-changing realities. This 30-minute film focuses on the issue of ‘period poverty’ across poor communities in Africa, whereby girls and women cannot afford female sanitary products to deal with menstruation such as sanitary pads and tampons. It also delves into ancillary issues like institutionalized corruption in the armed forces, child labor, child marriage, pedophilia, rape and lack of access to quality education.

The Conversation Cafe also officially launched its sanitary bank for people and organizations to donate hygienic sanitary products like pads and tampons, deodorants, bathing soaps, detergents, hand sanitizers, disposable bags for onward distribution to girls and women in very low-income communities, rural communities, and IDP camps.

The Producer of the Movie, Chisom Ogbummuo, mentioned during the cause of the event that “Her” the movie will commence its public viewing tour from August 13th and will be screened at over five hundred schools, festival, conferences, and youth-led gatherings in Africa and around the world.
