Arise Africa Fashion Week: Ituen Basi

Nigerian designer, Ituen Basi fuses (what seems to be this season’s hottest trend) bright colours with African fabrics in her collection. The collaboration resulted to contemporary ethnic pieces which electrified the runway!

Her designs are feminine, playful and have a sassy flair to them! Which were articulated with shreds and tiers which also sought to give the pieces some texture. She is able to balance the bright colour mixes with simple flattering cuts; and so, the pieces don’t come off as overwhelmingly busy. The pieces in her collection are bold and engaging; they were certainly tailored to make a lady stand-out in them!

She is the freshest and most authentic talent to come out of the Nigerian fashion scene in years. Her work is undeniably fantastic, the attention to detail and execution is flawless. She is not trying to be anyone but herself, her design are so unique and well thought out. I am tired of seeing so called fashion designers copy cat-ing English designs and rebranding them as some aerie faerie nonsense! Ituen Basi is the best Nigerian designer bar none!
