Face of AFrica Winner Lukando Nalungwe (Zambia)

After a night of what can only be described as high fashion with most of Nigeria’s and Africa’s fashion elite in attendance, the coveted Face of Africa crown went to Lukando Nalungwe from Zambia.

It truly was a night of high gilts and glamour at the Eko Hotel Exhibition Centre in Lagos, with show stopping outfits from 10 of Nigeria’s most illustrious designers. The list included many BN favs such as Zizi Cardow, Frank Osodi, Odio Mimonet, Fati Asibelua, Folake Folarin-Coker, Ituen Basi, Adebayo Jones, Lanre Da Silva-Ajayi, Lisa Folawiyo and Yemi Osunkoya (whose dress was won by Face of Africa winner Lukando). The night also showcased two of the brightest fashion talents from East and Southern Africa – Kenya’s  John Kaveke and South African star David Tlale and included 2010 cruise collections from runway designers Emmanuel Ungaro, Versace and Christian Lacroix. Apart from the breathe taking pieces, the night also featured entertaining performances from south African songstress Lira and Nigerian Fave Dbanj (accompanied by Dr Sid and Wande Coal).

But you’d be wrong to think Lukando walked away easily with the crown. She fought off stiff compettion from the other 4 runner ups; Tholakele (South Africa), Rosanna (Zimbabwe), Ernania (Mozambique) and Marvis (Nigeria). However at a night filled with many highs and lows for all 10 contestants, there could only be one winner. Apart from the Face of Africa title, Lukando also receives $50,000 dollars from MNET, a modelling contract with O Modeling Agency (CEO Oluchi Onweagba) and a chance to take part in New York Fashion Week in a few days. As if that wasn’t enough to make any girl happy, Zenith Bank are also giving Lukando a $5,000 shopping spree, while in New York! Some girls just have all the fun! We wish Lukundo and all the remaining 9 contestants all the best in the future.

congrats to lukundo and not lukando in our mother tongue it denotes mercy or merciful. i think the girl deserved to win. she cute,i hope she hasnt already been given in marriaged to someone according to her tradition. this ruined the career of another promising face of Africa from zambia a few years back.

Painful. They didn’t even edit the “BN faves” bit!

So glad the contestant i tipped to win won. I felt like a winner myself! Was afraid for her after she was made to wear that hideous sequinned pink piece, but then, the best beauty shines forth even in the worst dress. Congrats girl!

But that girl is REALLY SKINNY! Her shoulder blades are painfully shooting out – I could trace it out if I place a sheet of paper in her. Na wa o! We Africans don join oyibo dey call skin and bones beautiful?!!Weird definition, i tell you! I guess ’skinny’ sells and them curvy babes embark on even weirder diets to conform.

Congratulations to the winner, I wish her the best and same to other contestants who did not win.
At the risk of sounding like an english teacher, I could not help but notice, and feel the urge to correct your english here… “Zenith bank are also giving Lukando a $5000 shopping spree”? that does not sound like good english… it should be ‘Zenith Bank IS giving …” IS being the operative word here not ‘are’, there is just one Zenith Bank so your sentence should be in the singular not plural. secondly “breath taking” not “breathe taking”. Guys make an effort to proof read your articles before publishing, it does a lot to the quality of any article and says a lot about the person writing too.
