BN Style kicked off 2011 with a special feature on the “11 Young, Fabulous & Talented Designers to Watch in 2011″ – Click to Read.
Starting things off with that feature was no accident.
One of BellaNaija’s major goals for 2011 is to promote the next generation of talent across all fields – from fashion to music, movies, science, entrepreneurship and everything in between.
The BN Style team is pushing forward with this mandate, this week, we will be celebrating the “BN Emerging Fashion Talent Week“.
Everyday of the week, we will feature a lookbook from a promising design label. Some were included in our “11 for 2011″ list and some were not, however they are all immensely talented and breaking boundaries in their own unique ways.

Day 5 of our BN Emerging Fashion Talent Week, it is the final day of our fashion week and we have selected upcoming fashion label, MEENA by Uju Offiah.
Uju Offiah, a protege of Nigerian designer Ituen Basi is the creative director behind the label – Meena. Meena which launched in December 2010 focuses on Ready-to-Wear womenswear though the label also offers made to measure services. Nigerian star, Genevieve Nnaji wore a Meena jumpsuit at the 2011 Future Awards and Ini Edo was exclusively styled in Meena pieces for her WOW! Magazine cover feature.
The collection “Silver Shadow” is inspired by the 70s. The designer, Uju describes the pieces as minimalist “neoclassics” because they infuse the classics with a modern twist.
According to the designer, “The Meena lady can be defined as adventurous and conservative. Conservative because she does not want her femininity to be portrayed wrongly. Adventurous because she refuses to follow trends but rather carves out a stylish niche for herself which she exudes confidently“.

She uses silk fabric really well!
From what I see, most of that is actually Satin and not silk.
Some of it looks like silk, and some look like spandex..maybe jersey; I could be wrong. Satin doesn’t look lightweight like those fabrics….anyhoo, these dresses are super body-conscious so even though some pieces are beautiful, I can see myself rocking them only on my good (flat belle) days.
oh d last gown is killin me….wow
yummy black maxi dress!!!
Lovely…can definetly see myself in some of these pieces…me likey
The model must be 8ft5inches tall. what? see height. lol
So beautiful….pls where is her store located
l love this
Great choice of models who carried the designs nicely. No complaints whatsoever…
wow!i m feeling dis outfits!
they’re cool/weable. her style doesn’t really stick in my mind though, meaning its not that unique to me. I feel i’ve seen her designs in various other places.
i like d outfits, models, make-up……………
yummy…is all i can say, she makes silk look like cadbury choclate…..cool
i am kinda getting sick and tired of every tom dick and harry in naija calling themselves designers these days. Isnt there other creative things apart from clothes that yall can make – Na wa oooh – So who is buying whose clothes if the market is so damn saturated. I want to see other creative ppl like artist, interior designer something – I am sick of the rubbish clothes – Fashion Designer ko fashion designer ni.
please allow them, if it is putting bread on their table instead of being runs girls, is it not better?
plss stop commenting, leave them to design, is it your money they are using, its what they are passionate about, let them enjoy
And the whole rant was totally pointless…if you want other creatives please go out and do something!!! People are doing what they know how too stop drinking so much hateride (Shior)
So quick to judge, I bet you don’t have a single creative bone in your body. Or do you have an interior design project you are running? I don’t think so!
these designs are so on point.wow!!!
I like the floor-length dresses!
DE BLACK DRESS IS WAOHHHHH, GO GIRL.
omg these are hot!!!!
Kai!!! Dis is soooooooooo wondaful. Ahhhh. Dis uju offiah is hot ohh. Na wa.
Wow…………..this is beyond amazing!!!!!!!! I want ‘em, ppl need to stop hating for real, find your talent and invest
Fabulous…Genevieve Nnaji wore the purple jumpsuit at an event recently right? it was magnificent! More please…do you do sizes 14 and up? in the black floorlength dress
I thot so too
was about to point that out: Genevieve repping. JOY
Size 14 and “up” ke? Is the “up” part for human beings as well?
Toriola this is a very narrow minded and extremely inconsiderate statement to make. It is funny how women with many insecurities are the ones to constantly put others down as a means of masking their insecurities. The question was directed at the designer so next time i suggest that you keep your irrelevant comments to yourself.
I definitely concur with B. That was a very tactless comment. Many size 14 women look gorgeous and healthy, and many Nigerian women who lead happy lives are above a size 16 or 18. And that’s American sizing, I know U.K. sizing has higher numbers.
oghogho gooooooo gurl,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nd chantelle u are georgious
I stared at the first outfit for about 5 minutes. I don’t know if it’s the model or the design but wow. The last two are also amazing.
lwkmd @ ‘runs girls’
She pulled of the silk fabric. i love love love this…matter of fact, it’s amazing how these designers are doing great, yet the “over hyped” ones are rather embrassing when they unveil their long awaited/hyped collection. Great work MEENA!
@Eheuu! u jst proved u r nt a productive/positive minded person…i’m sure u r jobless/searching!!!as a man i really love d designs….they r absolutely fabulous. we r getting foreign designers..@
Mehn! these designs are ELEGANT n CHIC.
OKAY!!! These clothes are WOW!!!!!!! Love it! The first purple dress…. crazy!
Im LOVING the last gown!!! Hot!
http://temiville.wordpress.com/
wow !!! love love love the last two especially ! well done !
Loooooove the clothes especially the purple peplum dress n the black maxi one. Errm the basic requirements 4 every human being are Food, shelter n CLOTHING n there are over 10million ppl in Nigeria so how can the market be saturated?
the black dress is off the hook
I would really love Genny to wear either the purple dress or especially the black dress (with a nice updo) to the AMAAs coming up in Nairobi. i hope she will be attending.
those dresses are so fabulous, and def red carpet material.
as opposed to those other “movie stars” aka Nollywood actresses that show up to important red carpet events wearing short “club-like” dresses.
you just had to go there abi?
yes, i did.
Genny wore the blue jumpsuitlike number to the future awards, looked great in it.
Oghogho looking great – Benin stand up!!!! Meena, great designs
Pix no. 9. Perfect legs. Pretty gal
the last two dresses? breath taking!!!!
Lovely outfits…

The last dress is GORGEOUS. Chantelle doesnt’ come off to me as a model….not at all. Oghogho, now that’s a model, she doesn’t even have to try.
lovely and very creative,welldone uju.
So slippers-wearing-girl is really a model! as for the designs thet are nice, it shows somebody went to the drawing board
I was wondering the same thing, lol she’s pretty though, I prefer the other girl, she has more of a model look
The last two dresses are awesome, and the last one in particular is a must have for me
http://chizys-spyware.blogspot.com/
Lovely dressing. The black dress in the last picture is gorgeous. The shots were styled very nicely, job well done
Nice dresses, very beautiful,,,,,,,,,Would live to see Genny in the 1st, 9th and the last out fits, ma sure she’s gonna rock ‘em…….. TG
OGHOGHO… U ARE SO HOT !!!!!LOL..DEFINITELY GOING PLACES
Beautiful pieces! Good going Uju! I’m glad I know you! (This is me attaching)
The last dress killed it! Gorgeous!
ooohh the last dress is GORGE!
the last dress is ohhhh soooo CHIC!!! and only someone with the height of that model can pull it off! wow!
choi!…the darker model has a rack and booteeeey for days man! I luv it..I heart her..yes homo o! *salacious grin*
omo this designer TOH BAD!
I am def going to buy stuff from her when next i am in naija!
I am going to dream about that last dress tonight! Haba!
Where do you guys see silk. Don’t know what most of that material is actually called but it aint silk people. Its that “shiny stretchy jersey” stuff lol! I hope someone can help me out. She gets extra props for working with such difficult material…not the ankara ankara ankare they want to suffocate us with. Great job Meena!
there is nothing wrong in ankara fabric, its uniquely ours and is rocking the international market. alot of high earn designers are trying hard to copy or vamp our trends. aldo, river island, just to mention a few, and even gwen stephani and beyonce too have been caught copying our designs and trends thanks to ituen bassey and jewel by lisa, so if you dont know how to be patriotic pls keep quite!
Meena is good no doubts about that and she delivered in the the finished designs and trust me the photographer and models brought the outfits to life
dang that models body is banging!!!
o ma deiz see ogogho..im proud of u gurllllllllllllll
WOOOOOW!hot, hot, hot.need i say any more?u go girl!im happy to be naija.
splendid outfits. luv to have them 4 myself
Heeeee, my name sake is doing wonders! Dat last black gown, OMG!!!
Say no to satin and bubbly sewing.
Ohlawdyyyy that black dress….gotta have it!
My cousin(Oghogho) is fabulous!!! and the other girls too!! Love it!
amazing!!!! i have seen her other designs apart from the ones she posted here, they are a breath of fresh air!!!! simple, sexy and sophisticated……and to think the designer is actually a Lawyer!! Well done Meena….. And i have some of her designs too
lol
For the most part the dresses are pretty, but lose the scarves. What is this? Deeper life gone wild?
Well she obviously didn’t learn anything form ituen basi, like being original. The collection looks like those Yaba dresses Unilag girls wear to class.
pls BN readers, stop all the hate and appreciate your very own, great job uju, am personally proud of you, i hope BN and other media agents promote talented individuals by their creativity and not who wore what, even an average girl can still look good on any of these outfits and am sure there are very affordable too!, i would also love BN to do a close up interview on uju, her story would inspire alot of young graduates who dont know how to achieve their dreams and break all barriers, to all the haters just watch out for meena cos it might just be ur best piece in your wardrope.
nice one…love the first ensemble…the purple dress towards the end and the black gown with train.(a grammy/oscar winner anytime!)
Ok, I hear some Genny do this Genny do that … this is not about Genny. I am a Genny fan too but this is obsession. Oh by the way, best modelling so far. The outfits … not so gorg by themselves though creative. But the models sold them 500%
Lovely outfits.

Don’t mind them Obi. They want Genny to wear the long black gown. If she does now they will come here still and – about the “black”! #Confused.com
Everytin is perfect and beautiful. Make up.models but one of gowns looks like a copyright
That’s really beautiful…
my goodness!!!! am loving these outfits! totally mind blowing!!!!
who is oghogo? She is hot.
I saw oghogho at the Elite model look show last year. I think she is signed on with Beth Modelling agency. She looks great. I love the black dress on her.
The 2nd model really resembles Kimberly Elise in some of her poses!!!
that model is ON POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WELL DONE….
looks too generic
kul outfits
