‘Year of The Gentleman’- S/S 2011 Collection by Sheria Ngowi
Posted on Tuesday, April 26th, 2011 at 3:08 PMBy Ijeoma Ndekwu
Tanzanian designer- Sheria Ngowi graced the pages of BN Style for the first time last year when we featured a sneak-peek of his S/S 11 collection. That collection received rave views from our readers and I have no doubt that the response to this one will be equally as positive.
Titled, Year of The Gentleman, this collection gathered inspiration from “so many sources” says designer Sheria Ngowi, however, he attributes his late Father as the primary source because “he was an incredibly gentleman and because he used to love fashion and he had a sense of style which inspired me a lot”.
The collection exudes luxury; Linen, Velvet, Cotton, Silk & Satin are used in the creation of immaculately tailored suits and separates which offer the man the opportunity to showcase his “gentleman”.
“For me a gentleman is someone who’s polite, intelligent, talented, modest, well dressed, well groomed, and culturally aware. So I’ve taken that role into my own hands. I’m here to help, to advise, and to generally aid men in their quest to better themselves and become gentlemen. I want to save everyone else the effort I’ve been through and give them a one-stop resource for everything they need to known. My goal is to give African men, a platform of inspiration. I showcase all things fashionable and stylish, so they need to “step out of their boundaries and try something new” and become gentlemen”.- Sheria Ngowi

What more can i say… Its in the name… Year of the gentleman
nice!! me likey!
Something is wrong with this post…the pics aint loading, I’ve tried over ten times now! :/
So I counted only seven outfits; two acually if you consider that the shawl collar suit is just repeated in different colours and fabric combinations. I don’t see how that can constitute a collection really, and the write-up mentioned “separates” ; which are glaringly absent from the “collection”.
It’s a shame because I was beginning to get interested until I noticed that I was seeing the same thing over and over. I give kudos to the designer for the quality of the construction and fit ( a bit tight on a few occasions though), and particularly for the pristine cut of the trousers. I think he should focus on more range for next time though and if he is going to focus solely on suiting, then he should show some variety; city suits, safari suits, peak lapels, notch lapels, etc…
100% co-sign.
I like you lolz. It’s just 100% gimmicks.
Perempe you always constructive in ur criticsms.Pls keep it up.
I hope the designer listens to you cos that will be beneficial to him
ditto!
So. Tite
how can i get the designer contact details please?
just wanna say that i really love the fabrics these guys used in bringing this creative dresses to life finally something for we men to be proud of nice outfits and love the shoot concepts
VERY “SWEET” looking if u know whattamean
Somehow the designer has made mundane menswear exciting,i see elements of TOM FORD here, could do without the flowers lol but on the whole very GOOD JOB.
Only down side to the designer is originality…. though, i must say the pieces look good!
His “collections” always come out a season after ‘Tom Ford’ and then coincidentally bare a striking resemblance.
Check out the first collection that was posted on here with ‘Tom Ford’ 2009, then Look up ‘Tom Ford’ 2010 and look back at this.
Lastly, ‘Year of the Gentlemen’ was used all last year, from GQ to ‘Fresh Wallstreet blog’ so even the title is not original.
P.S – I think you can go a GREAT job, but find yourself and don’t give us other peoples work, re-done.
You just hit the nail on the head because i also thought it’s got a striking resemblance to TOM FORD’S last collection, its not that almighty Tom Ford will be pleased to see it but then there’s no chance of him seeing it so we can just say the collection is a poor man’s tom ford and the designer did a good job.
kool
but wats up with the lip glows on the guys lips?????????????????
More like year of the girly-man to me but very, very clean lines none the less. I am impressed by his creativity minus those polka dots and flower brooches.
the tailoring is exceptional
year of the girly man indeed.notfeeling the outfits(nor the male models for that matter) at all.
sassycassie
year of next lever.
androgynous? nah just girlie!
breathtaking
Totally agree, i probably didnt get the memo, but when did men start wearing corsage ?
nice..very nice
good job Sheria… love it
why sud we beef evertin we see yes wat!!!! with d lip gloss it was a bit 2much but d outfit was nice and originality …. we av 2 copy people work somtimes so u will not look ova dere 2buy it on a high side , the name was a bit regular…notin fresh but let congratulate him for copying well …..thank u shonnywilliam
That’s facing the real world. Putting oneself out there comes across different points of views. You didn’t complain about the positive comments did you?
Plus if his works are copied, then that’s just fact and not negative comments. Look at his last last collection and compare to the last 2 ‘Tom Ford’ collections !
So peeps are not beefing, but criticizing, which can actually help the man improve and know how to better please his potential customers.
Loving all of it.
so cool!
