“Beyonce – President’s Daughter”, “Lady Gaga”, Now…”Destiny’s Child” – New Ghanaian Movie Raises Questions

A new Ghanaian movie is raising questions about copyright and trademark laws.
The movie titled “Destiny’s Child” has created online buzz ever since photos and video from the set of the movie debuted on www.GhanaCelebrities.com
Though a teaser for the movie is online, the plot of the film is not yet public so movie fans and analysts are unsure if it the movie is inspired by the American musical group, Destiny’s Child or if the name is just a coincidence. Though there seem to be some similarities between the group and the fictional group depicted in the movie.
The name of the movie follows the recent Nollywood and Ghollywood trend of naming movies after international superstars. Nollywood did this with previous titles “Beyonce & Rihanna” and most recently, “Lady Gaga“. Now Ghollywood is hitting back with “Destiny’s Child“.
Movie title aside, the film which features Nana Akua Addo, Roselyn Ngissah, Helen Asante, Kalsoume Sinare, Mimi and Sammy Forson definitely looks promising.

This is the main reason why I don’t watch African movies. They are not original at all, and what is more annoying is that they know better and they can do better. But they continually choose to put out recycled, predictable, copycat, no original storyline crap.
