“Beyonce – President’s Daughter”, “Lady Gaga”, Now…”Destiny’s Child” – New Ghanaian Movie Raises Questions

A new Ghanaian movie is raising questions about copyright and trademark laws.
The movie titled “Destiny’s Child” has created online buzz ever since photos and video from the set of the movie debuted on

Though a teaser for the movie is online, the plot of the film is not yet public so movie fans and analysts are unsure if it the movie is inspired by the American musical group, Destiny’s Child or if the name is just a coincidence. Though there seem to be some similarities between the group and the fictional group depicted in the movie.

The name of the movie follows the recent Nollywood and Ghollywood trend of naming movies after international superstars. Nollywood did this with previous titles “Beyonce & Rihanna” and most recently, “Lady Gaga“. Now Ghollywood is hitting back with “Destiny’s Child“.

Movie title aside, the film which features Nana Akua Addo, Roselyn Ngissah, Helen Asante, Kalsoume Sinare, Mimi and Sammy Forson definitely looks promising.

What do you think?

Destiny's Child - Ghana

Beyonce - Ghana

Lady Gaga - Nigeria

Beyonce & Rihanna - Nigeria

I’m sorry to say but neither nollywood nor gollywood will go beyond africa if they choose to remain this unoriginal and That’s where “bollywood” stands out, they still sing their songs, blah blah blah…(BTW, i always had a very big problem with the addition of “wood” .why couldn’t we come up with something else?unoriginality at it’s peak, trashy movies!!!

Its highly embarrassing to say the least. How lazy could their brains be
to come up with creative scripts and titles. If its that hard then maybe
that’s not their calling. And there’s also a movie titled Ben10(even more annoying
as Aki and/or pawpaw are featured)

I don’t know perhaps they have found that these interestingly titled movies are successful. There has to be some motive behind it. I think it’s stupid personally, but if it help them sell their movies then they have to do what works.

YOU HAVE KILLED ME FINISH CHEIIIIIIIIIIIIIII LMBAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO this was hilarious. Sadly enough, someone will come out with those upcoming title, very possible in a very embarassing way. The Rhianna-Beyonce debacle was painful to watch, the costume, horrid lipsyncing, over acting by all of the cast members, it was cringe inducing. This whole thing is embarassing. I am still in shock over the movies Coffee and Bread, Spanner. They don’t care what they entitle this movies or the content.

me i like african movies becos they actually have african things in them and copying is not that bad infact its called :drawing inspiration from..” But this particular one is like copying from a friend in an exam and copyin thier name too.

  67. andels

    October 8, 2011 at 11:30 am

it dosent even matter what this looks like they just need to stop this beyounce, lady gaga nonsense and be more creative with their story lines what happen to names like ajoke amara ehh chidinma or fatima lol am just pissed. Anyway be more creative guys, your production is getting better but this copy copy has to stop, and stop embarrassing us. nonsense.

  68. Cynthia

    October 8, 2011 at 4:30 pm

This is the main reason why I don’t watch African movies. They are not original at all, and what is more annoying is that they know better and they can do better. But they continually choose to put out recycled, predictable, copycat, no original storyline crap.

  69. freak!!!

    October 9, 2011 at 11:24 am

LWKMD! well they also hav BEN 10 and LEGEND OF THE SEEKER. its like nollywood nd ghollywood r even competin sef. GRAB UR COPY!!

  70. ao

    October 9, 2011 at 8:34 pm

I’m not a fan of Ghana movies and avoid buying them because of the blatant copying, lack of originality, crappy acting, over use of curse words, and trying too hard to appear Western as if that is the hallmark of progress.

LWKM! ROTFL…….They made you look! The amazing thing is that you guys will still continue to buy and watch the films with these funny titles and then complain about. Well guess what? you watched the movie out of curiosity and they got paid….that’s the whole point. hehehehe. I mean seriously if a movie is titled Beyonce and Rihanna or Blackberry big babes or Ben10, what will the story line be? What happened to the days when movies had titles like “Violated”.

I am such a proud African.. and so original.. I hate copycaters…. and people with low ideas and initiatives.
