Status Update from ‘Single’ to ‘Married’! Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg gets Married to Long-time Girlfriend at Surprise Wedding

Last week was certainly a good week for Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and CEO of the world’s largest social networking site, Facebook. Just a day after his company, Facebook, made its initial public offering (IPO) on the Nasdaq stock exchange, he tied the knot with his long time girlfriend, Priscilla Chan yesterday in a small and private wedding.

The 28-year-old billionaire raised $16 billion at the IPO after more than 576 million shares changed hands, setting a trading volume record for U.S. market debuts. Facebook posted $3.7 billion in revenue in 2011 and $1 billion in profit. The site boasts 900 million global users.

Earlier in the week, his girlfriend, now wife, Priscilla Chan graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, on Monday which happened to be Zuckerberg’s 28th birthday. The guests at the wedding actually thought they were attending a graduation celebration for Chan, but were surprised to learn that it was, in fact, a wedding. The two shocked a bunch of friends and family with a surprise wedding in the Facebook CEO’s backyard. There were fewer than 100 guests at the event, including Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg.

The couple met at Harvard and have been together for more than nine years. Zuckerberg designed the ring himself, and according to a Facebook rep, it features “a very simple ruby.”

A look at Zuckerberg’s Facebook page reveals that he has now changed his status from ‘In a Relationship’ to ‘Married to Priscilla Chan.’

Congratulations to the newly weds!

How do you know she is a gold digger? She was with him during her first year at Harvard before he got his millions. BTW, she is a medical doctor. She does not need to dig for gold. Your comment is very irritating. Nonsense.

  • haba! May 20, 2012 at 8:22 pm

LWKMD! please we africans have style! its when we wanna marry we are happy and we celebrate! its not like we are not down to earth! look in India the weddings are also festivals please dont mind this girl! i hope they have a happy life but south Asians and Nigerians have the BEST WEDDINGS OF ALL TIME!

  • aiyzeenay May 20, 2012 at 9:23 pm

Nice and simple….Like her dress, wedding was in their backyard and i think her dress suits that theme.

  • chikalaka May 20, 2012 at 9:34 pm

I like how we don’t support stereotypes on Bella Naija…really good! lol Happy for them mehn..e no easy….28 sitting on 16 Bill!

    • Gimmer May 21, 2012 at 3:57 pm

aint taht something though? i must say that he is the exception, not the rule. Yoerubas always say “kirakita o dola”, meaning, “hard work and hustle doesn’t equate wealth” goodluck to him and his $19 Billion. for every zuckerberg, there are thousands of wannabes who for some strange unfathomable reasons, are in debt today, just trying to become a millionaire.

  • christy May 20, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Sometime I wish am not a Nigerian. How many Nigerian men will still stick to their girlfriend when they have made it?

  • Concerned May 21, 2012 at 12:07 am

This shows modesty and humility at its best. The kid is worth over $19billion but still kept it simple. He is a non-conformist and doesnt expect to impress anyone with a trophy wife(model or a celebrity ). His wife is an ivy-league graduate/ medical doctor who was recently inducted and mentioned in American National Medical Honours Society which is reserved for the best of the best brains. This story is just an advise for Nigerian youth to stick by your partner and ecnourage them in their pursuits. Patience is a virtue most young people lack it.

    • Shola May 21, 2012 at 2:44 am

      Well said!

    • Nike May 21, 2012 at 10:48 am

I really wish Nigerian men could learn from this young man. Always remember the woman that stood by you through it all. For Nigerian men its the complete opposite. They are always looking for an “upgrade”

      • Mz Socially Awkward… May 21, 2012 at 1:17 pm

Honey, best believe it aint just Nigerian men that indulge in that foolishness…

      • Gidi May 21, 2012 at 9:56 pm

stop generalising. I ain’t looking for no upgrade. This is my last bus stop.

  • minilavander May 21, 2012 at 1:11 am

Emmm facade u should just look for somwhr to throw ur sadness to… Or u were just lookn for attention being d first to comment….

  • Purpleicious Babe May 21, 2012 at 2:30 am

I like Mark though, he is soooooo laid back, simple and humble. He is not bothered or rarely “youraverageshowoffdude”. I like his personality.

Watching a documentary on him sometime ago made me appreciate him more, in fact went to add him or liked him on fb to show how much I respect him. He is quite humble and apparently he is still driving his old car from school days (according to his friend that helped start fb then).

I like the simplicity of their wedding. SOME people just like peace and quiet and I like it for them.

So raise my glass of (sweet water lol, imagine its wine) to a toast of happy married life.

Pray their love for their for each other will always shine forth.

    Congrats…

  • NNENNE May 21, 2012 at 2:40 am

A big lesson for Nigerian women…face is just not enough. Despite the fact that Mark already made it, Priscilla still stayed true to her studies.Could that be why Mark stood by her? If she dropped out of school or did improve herself, would he still stay with her? Wouldn’t they have grown apart?
    HML Mark and Priscilla!

  • NNENNE May 21, 2012 at 2:41 am

    Meant …did not improve herself.

  • konnie May 21, 2012 at 3:38 am

    congrats and God bless you.

  • haba! May 21, 2012 at 7:17 am

why are people saying this is a lesson to nigerian women? are u guys stupid? there are soo many well educated nigerian women out there! plz just because these two dont have style doesnt mean we should say she should be an “example” the only ppl she shud be an “example ” too is ASIAN WOMEN

    • Nike May 21, 2012 at 10:52 am

You are still talking about style when your mate has graduated as a medical doctor, top of her class and landed a billionaire. Keep talking about style there, maybe style will put food on your table and give you a comfortable life

    • Nike May 21, 2012 at 10:53 am

You are still talking about style when your mate has graduated as a medical doctor, top of her class and landed a billionaire. Keep talking about style there, maybe style will put food on your table and give you a comfortable life. And stop insulting people. If you focused on your education instead of focusing on style, you would have learnt how to communicate without yabbing people.

      • lilly May 21, 2012 at 9:42 pm

GBAM!!! don’t mind them o. tatafos…#sighs. Anyhow, Lord i pray you bless me like this. Graduate as a MD with honors and marry someone who loves me for me (won’t mind if the person is a billionaire like Mark) AMEN!! :)

    • Princess zee May 21, 2012 at 12:51 pm

      WORD…totally agree

  • Enuff said May 21, 2012 at 8:09 am

I was one of those view ppl who kept wondering what kind of woman would Mark end up with, with all the money and fame … he was a perfect jackpot for all dem fame whores and gold diggers. The fact that his wife isn’t purely American, the fact that she is a young woman who has made a name for herself makes me respect him the more, it shows she is not just some chic looking for a free meal ticket. Mark took everyone by surprise, he didnt marry a size 0, blonde but married the one woman who stood by him through thick and thin .. I couldn’t be any more happier for him.

  • Enuff said May 21, 2012 at 8:11 am

    meant few people

  • Emem May 21, 2012 at 8:19 am

  • blgtrl May 21, 2012 at 9:40 am

  • Jillian(Invitations House) May 21, 2012 at 9:54 am

I wish am not a Nigerian.

  • kem May 21, 2012 at 9:54 am

  • kem May 21, 2012 at 10:32 am

value over vanity………lessons to be learnt here ohhh

  • Me2me May 21, 2012 at 10:33 am

I am glad to see that real pple still exist in Nigeria. As many of us are appealed by the simplicity.

These are pple that should constantly be on the tabloids.

  • Lady G May 21, 2012 at 11:45 am

    Congrats, Dude!

  • Omo May 21, 2012 at 12:04 pm

If Mark was a Nigerian..i’m just wondering what this page would have been like. Pictures would have been in dozens..and we would have seen the usual faces that graces every high n mighty occasion in Naija..love the simplicity

  • Princess zee May 21, 2012 at 12:47 pm

  • TG May 21, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Would bellanaija post pics of a wedding this simple if they were nigerians? Wedding without all the big shots, drama and action film!?!?! #just asking. Pls post my comment o!

  • Busy Sade May 21, 2012 at 2:43 pm

Real people with real money don’t make unnecessary show of wealth. Simplicity is the new opulence. Only empty heads focus on vanity instead of value, but there are not many of us around anymore.

    • Uchone… May 21, 2012 at 4:38 pm

      True Talk…Sade….I love This….

  • Kolawole May 21, 2012 at 7:02 pm
