Just a few hours after wishing the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, a Happy Birthday, sad news has filtered in saying the President’s younger brother passed on this morning.

According to Daily Times, President Jonathan’s younger brother, Meni Jonathan, was confirmed dead at the State House Clinic, Abuja.

The Presidency is yet to officially respond to the death. However, a close confidant of the first family told Daily Times that the deceased had been battling with an undisclosed ailment for months and was receiving medical attention in his home state of Bayelsa.

Last night, his condition was said to have worsened and he was flown to Abuja and taken to the State House Clinic.

Today is President Jonathan’s 55th birthday.

Such sad news befalling the President’s family on what was supposed to be a joyous day. May his soul Rest In Peace.

He should mourn his brother quietly because if he offers some public statement about his demise, I will lose the 0.1oz of respect I had left for him. When four young men were set upon and murdered, he didn’t say anything about those kids so he had better keep his statements to himself because his brother’s life is no more important than that of those young boys. Dem too get mama for house wey dey cry too!

Nigerians will always talk , If it was a common man i guess the comments will be good…. But when it happens to be involved with anyone in the political terrain it will be a different talk! However, before talking think and do not judge… we all have stuffs in our cupboard!

    • konnie November 20, 2012 at 8:40 PM

May his soul rest in peace. Hopefully this will inspire GEJ and the govt to actually investing the medical facilities in the nation instead of spiriting away naija’s money and spending in other countries enhancing their medical services and facilities.

Is like the death of this man was the first close relative’s death that President Jonathan is experiencing. By now President Goodluck Jonathan should have understood the kind of pains that relatives of those innocent Nigerians who lost their dear lives in Boko Haram’s attacks are experiencing.

However, may his soul rest in peace.

    • dorcas vincent November 20, 2012 at 8:43 PM

If people culd hv critisis the Lord Jesus and later killed him…So the big question is : Who can be better than Jesus? If Jesus happen to be Nigeria President today, the truth is that people will still criticise, and complain..Talkless of imperfect human like President Jonathan, and all of us…Please for those of you insulting me,leave him a lone for God-sake and show him some respect as your president..He hasn’t committed any of those crime they a ccused him off…I and you no that Boko Haram issue is political of selfish politicians to mess up his government…I sympathize with you Mr.President for the death of your only leaft brother.May his soul rest in peace..And Happy 55 birthday too God in his infinite mercies will keep you a live for us many more years as you continue your good works of transforming Nigeria

My grandfather had some bad qualities, and he lost two younger brothers, both of them who were much younger than him, one by 10 years and the other by 20 years. But, he was (I used ‘was’ because he is also no more) fortunate because both his brothers, even though younger, didn’t die on their birthdays.

      • Vishal Sathyan January 6, 2013 at 4:09 PM

And also, both of them even did not die on the birthday of their eldest brother. But, one of them died on the day after their nephew’s birthday. My grandfather, who had already lost an infant son (he had a son before my father was born, and died before turning a year) and a granddaughter, could not bear that loss. That made him bedridden for three years, which resulted in many serious health problems, and finally, in his death. He also outlived both his parents, a younger sister, many of his friends, uncle, aunts, cousins, and at last a son-in-law, who died in an accident two years before his death.
