OJB Jezreel - December 2013 - BellaNaija

OJB Jezreel’s kidney transplant surgery has created a lot of media buzz over the past few months. After series of donations to the cause, the veteran jetted off to India for the critical procedure.

Good news! It’s over now and the veteran musician has returned to Nigerian shores. On his arrival, entertainment channel Hip TV caught up with him to find out all the juicy details and you can watch it all in the next clip.

During the interview, OJB Jezreel explains how the surgery brought about unexpected blessings. He appreciates all those who donated money for the surgery which made it possible in the first place. Most importantly, he’s grateful to his wife who donated her kidney to him when all hope seemed lost.

Here’s an excerpt from his interview with HipHopWorld:

On the controversies that surrounded donations towards hisyour kidney transplant?

“Well, there are well meaning and bitter people in Naija. Most people were just complaining and these people didn’t even donate. All the figures flying in the air then were just fake and make-belief from different angles because if we had the money we wouldn’t have the governor donate N16million. Lots of cheques that some people donated bounced. I don’t want to mention names and when we called them to come for their cheques they didn’t come for it. We didn’t want to talk about it in the media because it was about saving a life.”

Better be grateful for you life and move on.

Which one is “we called them to come and collect check”. If the check bounced, you move on and continue raising money. This sense of entitlement bothers me.

If i were in his shoes, gone through what he went through, my focus will simply be giving thanks to God and people that helped. Not drumming up more controversy and speculation on owners of bounced checks.

      • Confuzzled December 11, 2013 at 7:04 PM

Thanks for making the statement regarding the ‘entitlement’ issue. I am glad I’m not the only one that observed, and was bothered by this attitude.

Be grateful for your successful surgery, thank the people whose checks didn’t bounce, and keep it moving. All this extra talk is just tacky and not a good look.

      • AA December 11, 2013 at 7:31 PM

Thank you o! This man mismanaged his own finances and resulted in BEGGING for money. Now he is trying to shame people whose cheques bounced??? How dare he?!! Does he have any shame? He should just praise God for getting better and shut up!! Beggars now have no shame

        • Idak December 11, 2013 at 9:41 PM

Young man Wey no shame to marry 3 wives in this 21st century is past the shame threshold.

      • Tiny December 11, 2013 at 7:34 PM

I really don’t think its a sense of entitlement. People are evil, one particular check belonged to a close celebrity friend. I mean why would you give something u don’t have then tell everyone around them just to look good and they call you to tell you oh the bank won’t honor ur check and u won’t even reply back till the surgery finished and he came home.

        • AA December 11, 2013 at 7:45 PM

I hear you Tiny but it’s not for him to condemn them. That’s between them and their conscience. He should just thank God and move on because if he was financially prudent in the first place, he would never have resulted to begging for donations. People have a right to give or not to give. He is not entitled to their money.

        • Nessa December 11, 2013 at 9:01 PM

The Governor gave him the total money he wanted plus all the money the celebs and citizens gave him. He had the operation and he is home healthy. So what if some checks bounced?! What difference does that make now?

    • madman December 11, 2013 at 6:20 PM

tehehehe…. pls let them remain nameless. I concur with the other posts that at least, you are now in good health.

    • Thelma December 11, 2013 at 6:50 PM

If this is true then I say a big shame to those that gave cheques that bounced. That is just the height of cruelty and insensitivity. Raising someone’s hopes only to dash them. I’m glad he’s fine now.

    • toyeen December 11, 2013 at 8:25 PM

I thank God for OJB’s life o. However, i think he needs to get over himself and stop feeling like d world owes him. Move on and dont make an issue of those whose cheques bounced, since God almighty raised up others.

    • Leah December 11, 2013 at 8:34 PM

There he goes again. He asked for more money than he needed and got a lot more money than he asked for. Your wife donated her kidney, you had a successful surgery, you are fine, your wife is fine. All the good that has come his way and this man is hell bent on focusing on the negative. Has he called the ones their checks went through to thank them? Life comes with good and bad and he has received the best of it, why can’t he count his blessing? There is something about this man…

    • Nessa December 11, 2013 at 8:56 PM

OMG! Can I just say that I have never come across a more ungratefull, self entittled and bitter person ever. Is this guy serious? You mean to tell me that after all he has gone through and all the blessing, he is still talking “bounced checks”. Really?! The amount of money that this fool got could have been used to treat at least five more deserving children in Nigeria with the same condition. Somebody please tell him to shup up before he ruins it for others who might need help in the future. BN please post my comment, as much as we need to encourage charity, we also need to encourage gratitude.

      • jojo December 13, 2013 at 7:05 AM

i agree with u Nessa. He can mess things up for people who might need this type of help in the future. OJB just say thank you 2 God for giving you anoda opportunity to see anoda day. If the operation had gone other wise will you be able to talk about bounce cheques.

    • MyView December 11, 2013 at 9:16 PM

OJB needs to shut up for good. The only words I need to ever hear from again is *Thank You*.He and his multiple wives also need to get jobs because there will no more public donations for him.

      • MyView December 11, 2013 at 9:51 PM

        ‘him’ and ‘be’

    • Idak December 11, 2013 at 9:37 PM

This man is shameless. No iota of shame whatsoever. Imagine him having the guts and effontery to call people to come and collect their cheques?
Meanwhile for the ones that did not bounce, when are you providing a full audit?

    • Jummai December 12, 2013 at 8:42 AM

      OJB is jst a mess!

    • Atiku Ebele Obasanjo December 12, 2013 at 9:07 AM

So this guy fit dey make mouth?Wetin he take all the million wey hin make that time do?Na women he take am dey marry…3wives for wetin? In fact,I didn’t expect such words from him? What if he didn’t get the money? What if he died?He should go to studio to sing thanks you praises to the media houses, friends and families, wellwishers,Governor Rotimi A , spiritual homes for their supportive prayers and others.

    • Canadathingz December 12, 2013 at 9:10 AM

I personally thing it’s very sad that he would even open his mouth to say cheques ppl gave him bounced…there is no reason for that at all,.. Most people are so entitled! Very sad! All everyone needed to hear was ‘thankyou’

    • Ewa December 12, 2013 at 9:12 AM

This is just shameless, you should be thanking God for sparing your life and not be bothered about bounced cheques Mr OJB.. What the heck??????? What have they got to do with the blessings that came your way through the people God used? . Please move on jare… Calling people to come and collect their cheques? So immature of you. I’m disappointed.

    • Ewa December 12, 2013 at 9:15 AM

Mr OJB, have you even said thank you to the numerous Nigerians that even paid as little as N500 to your account? Do you think money is easy to come about in this country??? Please pray for the spirit of gratitude and praise to come into your life and tell God to cast out the spirit of “Complaint” ..

calm down. when pple promise u n fail, its very painful. i see where he’s coming from.

      • Donald-Landon December 12, 2013 at 11:28 AM

Which one is promise and fail ???? It is not a RIGHT so nobody owes him anything. He was privileged enough to have had people donate their hard earned money to help him. Shouldn’t his focus be on the positives rather than on the bounced checks. This sense of entitlement crap just pisses me off.

    • mama December 12, 2013 at 9:42 AM

GOSH THIS MAN IS HIGHLY UNGRATEFUL! WHY DOES HE FEEL LIKE THE WORLD OWES HIM. WE DONT OWE HIM SHIT! THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH NIGERIA. HE SHOULD JUST BE GRATEFUL AND SHUT THE HELL UP!

    • Praise December 12, 2013 at 9:46 AM

Some people are so ungrateful. Why should be bothered by bounced cheques? You should be thanking God that you are even alive. You talk as it is your right, no no no you were just privileged to have people come to you aid. I know of a taxi driver who has kidney problem and no body to help, and here is a man that people rallied round to assist complaining of bounced cheques. If not for the people God used, would you have been alive today not to talk of bounced cheques? Despite the harsh economy people parted with their hard earned money while those that did have to give prayed for you and all you could do is to open your mouth to complain of bounced cheques. Ha! OJB, you fall your hand. Gosh I am so pissed.

    • Praise December 12, 2013 at 9:48 AM

sorry I meant “did not have……

    • Shaila Raveendran December 12, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Please write to me if you need help !

    • Charis December 12, 2013 at 9:21 PM

I agree no one owes him anything, and he ought to be more grateful but let’s be honest with ourselves its hurts when people do that esp in such critical moments. I rather they didn’t offer nyfin since they owe him nothing.

    • NNENNE December 15, 2013 at 12:04 AM

Welcome home. My special regard to your wife, who did such
      a marvelous job.
