Rising Nigerian singer Tonye Garrick is part of a new crop of artists that are proving to be more watch-worthy this year.

After her feature as the cover star of online magazine Zen, she’s letting us into some aspects of her life. In her interview for the mag, Tonye talks about taking her career to the next level, leaving all the negative behind, how her career started, hiding her talent at a young age and more.

On if being a celebrity is a burden or blessing
It’s a little bit of both. On one hand, you love being an inspiration to people and then on the other hand, you want your personal life to be your personal life. It’s crazy that your life starts being examined by everyone.

On if she’s single
Very single!! I never understand why people have such a hard time answering that question.

On hiding her talent
…the truth is I used to hide the fact that I could sing. I was very shy and my mum would always say I was wasting my talent.
