African Fashion Collective Pre-Show Rundown

The African Fashion Collective last night was nothing short of amazing, for me it was a moment of pure nirvana and high emotions. Seeing the best of the African fashion world in one room, on one night at the NEW YORK FASHION WEEK! ARISE’s Fashion Collective rung the message clearly that African fashion is just as elite and creative as the western fashion world. There wasn’t an attempt to play down our Afrocentricity but to display it in a truthful, thoughtful and artistic manner. Here’s the run down of pre-show events last night:

6:25 Picking up a last minute accessory from BCBG. OMG I’m running late. Hailed a cab from Madison Avenue to Bryant Park hoping the line won’t be too long when I get there.

6:40 On line at the African fashion Collective show. This is too surreal. There are two IVs one white and one black and red. One gets you a seat and one’s for standing room only. Bella Naija has the black and red and they better not be snobbing us. Really impressed by the diversity of the people attending the show, a very international crowd.

6:55 Signed in we have a seat YAY! In true African style,  the show is about to start in 5 minutes and we aren’t even seated yet. Too excited to even be upset.

7:15 Seating comfortably in section C but I heard some celebrities are out and about. Leave my seat to go celeb scouting and spot Ryan Leslie, Chrisette Michelle and Agbani Darego.

Agbani looks absolutely stunning and happy to give BN some love

7:40 Oh snap the show is about to start and rush to my seat only to find this chick in it. Well it says Bella Naija clearly so I make sure to let her know. Perks of having friends at IMG got an even better seat 🙂

7:44 Show Starts. Watch Fashion model legend Grace Jones below in the intro video to the show.

Exactly what I am used to – Timely and educated reports. If this was an event in Nigeria. It would not appear in a newspaper until 2 or 3 days later. Thanks!

I wonder how long Agbani can maintain her new look. It just doesn’t look like her at all. That’s a lot of weight loss since the Miss World Pageant.
I wish her all the best sha.
Hoping she gets to put on some weight and gets to look like Naomi, Heidi and Christy who look healthy.
