BN Red Carpet Fab: Nike Oshinowo “Fit, Forty and Fabulous” DVD Launch

Its the first BN Red Carpet Fab of 2010 and we are totally excited to be kicking off with this!

On Sunday 17th of January 2010, Ex-Beauty Queen Nike Oshinowo launched her fitness DVD “Fit, Forty and Fabulous”.

The event totally lived up to the billing.

It was held at uber-fab restaurant Medici in Victoria Island, Lagos.

It was an intimate, women’s only event which was graced by many fabulous Nigerian women of all ages.

The event kicked off with guests engaging in chitchat while enjoying cocktails and champagne.

Up next, the MC, Jason Nwoga charmed the guests with his witty anecdotes and then the DVD was officially reviewed  by Dr. Doyin Abiola who still looks gorgeous and fit in her 60s – Definitely a great testament to the power of exercise and healthy living. Guests including Nollywood stars Genevieve Nnaji and Rita Dominic shared their fitness secrets and then a montage from the DVD was shown and received with applause.

Guests then tucked into the delicious Medici food.

Editors Note: The food was good!

Overall, it was a great event!

On the fashion front, guests ‘rocked’ an outstanding mix of international and Nigerian designers. Check out the full BN Red Carpet Fab from the event!

Hauwa Mukan

Hauwa Mukan

We might have to send Hauwa Mukan to “Ituen Basi rehab” in 2010! In 2009, she rocked red carpets in Ituen Basi and it seems she is maintaining the trend in ’10. All jokes aside, she looked great. We love the Anna Wintour-eque fringed bob.

Reni Folawiyo

Reni Folawiyo

This beaded Hervé Léger bandage dress is sold out almost everywhere! We can see why – the brick hue, the asymmetrical neckline, the contrast beaded inserts – the dress is simply perfection. Reni Folawiyo pulls off this look excellently.

Funke Fowler

We totally love when African designer pieces are paired with casual pieces. Funke Fowler rocks this stunning Deola Sagoe top with denim and looks just fab!

Erelu does not look “elegant”, she looks over-dressed, like she is in costume…followed very closely in the “costume category” is Auntie Ruth Osime…talk about too much going on…kilode!
Omotola looked lovely…..and as a mischievous aside, that picture of her and Genevieve cheesing it is priceless….LOL!
i wish we could see the dinner knives about to go into each other’s backs when we turn away…
    Na who go win?
My money is on Genny-genny o…dont think ibo-girl cant throw dewn because her weaves are now more expensive

    Pssssssttttt……Auntie Mo,
tell your stylist that christmas holiday is over o, she can resume for work asap……hunnh? ……what was that? …….oh she is back? oh…that look was deliberate,…. the INCREDIBLE weave on, ……you put it on, on purpose?

One word: PHENOMENAL..LADIES you are looking too good and my few personal favourites Rita, Omotola and Genny.. well done. Now that is how its done, classy and sophisticated, you all look so good man.. Now, if Ini Edo (aka) Drag Queen had been there “disaster” , but we thank God she wasnt, she can act but chic is in serious need of a stylist.
well done ladies, am inspired, hair on point and that is always a pleasure, Omo love the contacts too girl..LOL

Everyone looks super nice, My Winners are Nike Oshinowo are Reni Folawiyo, they beat everyone else hands-down! its so not fair these women are in their 40s, what hope do we 20 somethings have eh? Bolanle Austen Peters looks HIDEOUS, where do i start, the hair, the dress, the jeans? maybe done seperately it’d have worked but all together it looks like a car crash! Lisa Folawiyo, im not sure whats going on there?

  10. Nkiru

    January 20, 2010 at 2:53 pm

Bella, we needed to see ur picture too. Please next time, you could add yours. As a matter of fact, u could add it now?. Its never too late. 🙂 Wow… the pics are great looking. But madame ruth, mbanu. She need not have worn the dress, maybe a free flowing long skirt and floral would have done the magic. Genny, omg, she looks radiant. Abeggi, she should maintain the look. Hollywood has come calling for Omo T, so she has to get the barbie look right. Janet Nwose, her fabric is nice, and the fitting? I’m not too sure though. All n all, nice pics. 🙂

  12. PREYE

    January 20, 2010 at 3:49 pm

these pictures are lovely but omotola should ditch the green color contacts they look tacky, she should have gone for a more natural looking color, and she is just looking somehow…maybe she fairer or she caked on too much powder. she looks pretty but she looks almost like a drag queen but i love her dress. genny looks beautiful and natural as always but i think the braids were a bit too full cuz she has a tiny face it. everyone looks good but mo abudu…abeg o she should never try that again…how can she wear that…it’s 5 yr old that wear denim on denim…and carrying the bad just makes the outfit look cheap (even though it’s a very expensive bag). nike oshinowo is classy and so are most of the women here. rita dominic never gets it wrong but her face is also changing like omotola’s face. only genny still looks the same…go GENEVIEVE…GO BELLA aka UCHE EZE…MWAH!!!!!!!!

  13. hmmmmm

    January 20, 2010 at 6:23 pm

ruth osime – unacceptable. that’s absolutely no way for the editor of a fashion magazine to dress. there’s always something soooo off about her. wtf? i’m really quite offended.

lisa folawiyo – i’m never wowed by her. she makes other folks look good but her personal style isn’t anything interesting.

the birkins – i tire o. how is it that nigerians can make anything undesirable?

mo abudu – ridiculous. i’m going to assume she styled herself. she’s wearing a f#%^$Q^#%#$ denim suit!!!!!! the flip???

bella – we really would like to see photos of you once in a while.

    wadami – love it!

hauwa – we get it. you love ituen basi. but surely you love other designers, too.

genevieve – no, thanks. hate the hair on you. it’s messing with your…aura? lol. then again, it could be one of those hairstyles that look great in person but not-so-great in photos.

    lade fadoju – nice!

omotola – stylist URGENTLY needed. so much potential but…

ola akande – things that make you go hmmmmm…

    nike osh – a 10!

lisa folawiyo’s wearing christian louboutin wedges; funke fowler’s holding a rebirth purse.

    January 20, 2010 at 8:05 pm

I actually loved Lisa Folawiyo’s look. There’s beauty in simplicity. I honestly think she nailed this one head to toe.

i love Lade Fadoju’ s look especially the hair

    January 20, 2010 at 10:12 pm

@kkk, I laughed so hard at your comment. You are crazy…lol….But seriously tho, her denim outfit is bad but that weave is worse….

  17. Nneka

    January 20, 2010 at 11:22 pm

lol lol lol. you’re so crazy. lol “don’t think igo-girl can’t throw down…..” lol

    January 21, 2010 at 12:03 am

lol anh anh! bella why did you delete my previous comment about the person i said looked like a the mask bubble head??? is it cos she is your friend :p

  19. blackrose

    January 21, 2010 at 1:07 am

    Here’s my two cents:
Mo Abudu: ‘Jeans Jacket?’ With matching trouser? Please, why??!
Funke Fowler: I Love, I Love, I Love your style!!!!
Lisa Folawiyo: very cute sendless look…
Tope Edu usually represents, but what’s with the dress this time around? Yes, yes, it’s Lanvin…but it’s a shapeless Lanvin sack.

All in all, though, very classy affair. But we expect nothing less from Nike Oshinowo.

    January 21, 2010 at 3:31 am

Actually i liked the draping, she made it drap by paring what seem to also be lavin flats with the dress. I can just see some nice Marni Patent platforms with the dress. Probably grey ones to complete a monochrome theme. LOL.

  22. tamaye

    January 21, 2010 at 3:44 am

bolanle austen peters outfit was a no no no, we need fashion police.

  23. aosgrl

    January 21, 2010 at 4:26 am

Immediately I saw Nike’s dress I knew it was a Rouland Mouret. He has that structured modernized 1940’s fashion influence in his his designs. Chai I’m so envious.

Abeg make una leave Lisa, She’s got her African hippie look down pat

When I first saw Mo’s outfit my jaw dropped (not in a good way) but its actually not that bad. I’m not a matchy match person, but I think the accessories however expensive or nice are distracting. She should have tried a darker wash with a shorter jacket and loser pants, she almost has a camel toe.

It’s nota bad thing to have brand loyalty if you know what fits you. Renee Zellweger is almost always wearing Carolina Herrera

I’m not a big fan of Genny’s Catsuit because of the wrinkles but that’s the nature of the material

Bolanle’s dress would have rocked without the extra pants underneath. The pants bunching up at the bottom ruined the dress. I can just see nice nude pumps or grey open toe platform booties with this dress (LOL I’ve got a thing for grey this season). Draping is in this fall/winter and she’s got the lithe body necessary for all that bulk

I’m surprised no one talked about Miss Mukan, that shade of burnt orange is lovely against her skin tone.

I think Lade’s dress was too short and too tight.

Its time people told, Nkiru Anumudu, Abah folawiyo and Erelu Dosunmu that they look like jokes. They should take a page from Doyin Abiola’s look book!

    My Faves were:

    Nike Oshinowo
    Wadami Amolegbe
    Ms Mukan
    Doyin Abiola
    Adeola Ajao
    Funke Fowler

I think both Omotola and Genevieve look heavenly! I don’t care for Omotola’s contacts, but she looks so gorgeous and fresh in that outfit. Always love to see that smile on Genevieve, and nice to see them both together getting along like real ladies. I love those two, Great Job Bella!

  25. Nkiru

    January 21, 2010 at 11:30 am

Biko, nne, as an Igbo woman. Please I adjure you in the name of God, please, don’t tell me that NKiru’s outfit looks clownish. Biko, it is our traditional Igbo dressing. Everytin does not have to be westernised or western. ‘I nu la.’ We still want to maintain our cultural values, that is, for the ones that are still interested. And I think that I am very much interested, and so is Nkiru ANumudu. 🙂

African women were born beautiful. They have divine bodies shaped liked an hour glass that most cultures pay millions of dollars for here in the u.s. What I fail to understand is why they some do not see it. (cough omotola) She has always been beautiful. what’s up with the cat eyes and this crazy news that she is heading to America for breast implants? I don’t get it! I personally think she is beautiful without the fake breasts, but if it makes her happy then I guess it is something she has to do. I mean Oluchi’s look great maybe she was inspired. She is still one of my Fave Naija actors. I just think she should be natural like her buddy Genevive..

    January 24, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Nike does not look a day over 38. She is a stunner I must say. She and Genny make staying slim and looking young seem easy.

Love Genny’s look here. No fuss as usual, just easy. This hair style used to be her signature look back in the day I remember. Good to see her back in it. I saw another picture somewhere else and I don’t think that is a jumpsuit she’s wearing. The picture was taken from the back and I could see the blouse was tucked into the pants. Cute butt too. Lol!

Omotola looks good too. To be honest the contact soots her, I just don’t see the need for it. It’s almost like she feels her natural beauty is not enough to get her the attention she loves so much. I love the picture she took with Gene. Their smiles look genuine.

Rita looks yellower than ever! Jeez!!! Enough with the bleaching woman!!! Your legs are looking wrinkled for real. Nice dress though.

    MO Abudu, WTF??!!!
    Ruth Osime, no be fight!

Personally I think Funke Fowler and Ola Akande(not with the shoes) nailed it the causal look, Genny would have nailed the look for the occasion but her weave is not nice on her (Disappointed), not keen on Rita’s look either but my girl Nike was looking really good.

Lade and Hauwa were also my red carpet faves.
even though Lade’s look is simple the dress is of perfect fit and the shoes are an excellent complement to her outfit.
