BN Exclusive – Video WORLD PREMIERE: Darey – The Way You Are

We brought you the songs, now here is the first video!
Darey presents the video for his song “The Way You Are“. The song was written and produced by Darey and Cobhams.

The video has a “clean” and fresh look which allows us to focus on the soulful song. The girls dancing in lingerie and boots provide some eye candy for the guys…

Darey is back ! His deep Luther Vandross-esque voice that we all loved on Project Fame is back and isn’t drowned out in big Fuji / hip hop beats. The video is very clean as well and isn’t loaded with pointless cameos from Naija “celebs”. It’s hi time we started producing more stars that don’t need a support system ( in the mould of Tuface, D’banj and PSquare). You know people that can headline a show themselves and don’t need to include everyone from Jedi to Kenny St. Brown to sell tickets. I think Darey can do it, he just needs to work very hard and if all else fails, join Mo Hits! We all know what Don Jazzy can do with talent-free people, imagine what he can accomplish with Darey!

He married well sha, married life has definitely made him more polished. Well done Deola!

you’ve got a point but please remove tuface from that list.
Dude can hold his own anywhere.

    • Peperempe

      November 26, 2010 at 6:17 pm

That was my point actually. Those are the only three that can hold their own any day, 2face maybe more than the other two. Although PSquare are very huge outside Nigeria. I ‘ve just recently realized that they have mad love in Francophone Africa as well.

probably the only person that is different here but i really don’t like the song. the video however is good and shouldn’t have been wasted on the song. dare has more potential than this song, sounds like a lazy, sloppy single.

What’s up with the lyrics though???? :Too thick too short too slim too tall, girl you cannot have it all, I wish that you would come to senses”……………Nah fight?

Yay!! Dare made another video with more white women!! I’m so happy for him. this is like his sixth video with white women taking up employment that could have gone to Nigerian models. Awesome job Dare!!! Simply amazing

    • kk

      November 26, 2010 at 5:41 pm

Dare, if you must use white women, pls use attractive ones.
On a more serious note, you must not use white women.
      Stop deluding yourself.
You are way too talented for that.

    • Nike Ola

      November 26, 2010 at 7:45 pm

Sugabelly!!! Leave darey alone.I have agreed with you on a previous post but now i’m beginning to see that you have unnecessary beef for the guy. Those girls are not white. If you have a crush on him come out and say it instead of beefing. I hardly see your comments on other artist posts. Gosh!!!

    • Sugabelly

      November 26, 2010 at 8:56 pm

other artists are not outsourcing Nigerian jobs to foreigners. When they do i will call them out. Naeto C did it in his Ako mi ti poju video and I commented on it.

    November 27, 2010 at 12:41 am

Some of the comments here are absolutely rubbish, white women,i hope u guys are watching the same video as me,cuz firstly the main girl is black and secondly outta the four girls dancing in the background ,two’s white and two’s black so i dunno what the whole fuss is all about. On a more intelligent note, the video is absolutely stunning,am not sure about the jacket look from Darey tho but overall you can tell a lot of thought was implemented in the production of the video. I guess most video producers now are beginning to appreciate the stylishness and class a black and white video gives demonstrates. The vocals too are incredibly strong ,i really could connect with the song.I guess Darey is officially back cuz this ryt here is a BANGER.

People People, these girls are not White at all. I saw pics of making of the video and they are definately all light skin black sisters, beautiful at that. And you know what even if they are white, what is the fuss about, White or Black does it really matter? You may not like the song, cool. But please stop the racism and discrimination. It sounds a bit ignorant Abeg Darey keep at it

  30. LAYDEE

    November 27, 2010 at 4:43 pm

yes, there are white girls, there are black girls on here too. sometimes this reverse racism gets on my nerves, if white girls come and audition for job should he now dump them because they are not dark enough? that being said, not too fond of the lyrics and his weird dancing, the video is nice and the beat is bangin’

  31. LAYDEE

    November 27, 2010 at 4:52 pm

wait oh, on second thought there aren’t even any white girls , i think the lighting plays a role to here, but it doesn’t really matter abeg

  32. Feelin Myself

    November 27, 2010 at 6:31 pm

LOL! Personally, I think they don’t have anything against these girls. They are probably reminded of their own shortcomings. White or Black, efficiency is the key. If you’re more productive than my Black sister or brother, I won’t substitute efficiency for sentimentality. Please, the pie is big enough for everyone. First, no mediocrity 🙂

  38. Nneka

    November 29, 2010 at 5:13 pm

Com’on you guys hae to give it to Darey. The guy is CONSISTENT…and I’m taking about his firm commitment to music over many many years, not necessarily to a particular genre of music. I still remember him from my college days and when he was part of that acapella group. Deola sure has herself some eye candy.

The lyrics sure are not award-winning lyrics. But we make the mistake of assuming that was the intention. However, his message is clear: APPRECIATE YOURSELF.

Good job with the video Cohbams and Darey.

The main girl in the video is black!! Her name is Tabby Brown, i recognise her from B.O.B video. Does it matter what colour anyone is anyway, Dare is major,
bless you man, you are doing it big, now to take it all around the world not just naija

    December 4, 2010 at 2:31 pm

Until 9ja artiste like dare become original/creative they wouldn’t be recognized in the west as they wanna be. this video is a left over of what usher, luda, neyo (u get my gist) have done. u dont agree with what am saying why is Nneka, Ayo, sunny Ade, Sade….famous during their time”?????? because they are pretty distints/ raw and not copy-cats. this guy has a good voice, but he lacks creativity.. the songs says onething the video says the other. ‘African Queen’ by 2face would 4eva be an anthem, this on the other hand would be forgotten by this time next year (or even before that)

Please listen to this song over and over again everyone watch that video again and am sure you will see a different darey we all know… well polished, well organised, well managed and most of all original and no PHOTO COPY like…………..

  56. michael

    December 10, 2010 at 11:15 pm

ok! i must confess, the video is exquisite, i love it….. but i must add that the lyrics are not in tandem with the message. If u say u like the way she is, then u should honestly be able to show a variety of women with different shapes and sizes inorder to buttress the substance of ur message. The girls in the video do not relay perfection in anyway, rather “they” in my eye look perfect. just a candid suggestion. And i expected to see drama just as neyo would do as regards ensuring that the lyrics match the lyrics of the song but i would understand if u say the concept bhind it was to give it a contemporary and kind graffiti effect but overall the video is perfect and mature and i would honestly say is award deserving

  57. Purpleicious Babe

    January 13, 2011 at 12:51 pm

I like the lyrics of the song… really positive to encourage gurls that have insecurities about things and peer pressure of oppression in the society. YOU ARE A STAR and LOVE Yourself. I would have recommended a cat walk concept to exhbit the songs choice using different females to cordiante the lyrics in the song. However, the video is suppose to appeal to certain audiences as sex sells. It only to do with marketing, its not about copying, everyone in this industry emulates each other. IT MUSIC, nothing much is ever original, its just bits and bobs of other people ideas incorporated together to create orginality. SO, what NEW UNDER SUN…. NOTHING ITS ALL BEEN DONE, SAID AND STILL GOING TO BE SAID. LIFE IS A CIRCLE. I think we should just be an encouragement to what is positive and godly.
